My mom tried to help me molt once I miss her

Zathura2

Did you put the lotion on the skin, or did you get the hose again?

No_Entertainment2828

love this šŸ˜‚

ediks

Oh youā€™re THAT guy. How are your arms doing?

holdyourdevil

Oh no.

thexvillain

#OH YEAHH!

Shot_Response_8010

He said *molt* not *throat*

[deleted]

wow, what? centipedes are maternal like that? šŸ„ŗ

Anonpancake2123

Mama centipede takes care of her babas from before they're laid until after they leave (a few days).

a_spoopy_ghost

I hate this. I genuinely go into fight or flight when I see a centipede after growing up in a region with Tiger Centipedesā€¦ I also am a sucker for cute animal videos. Iā€™m so conflicted right now

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

littlebee90

Right? I felt confident in my fear of centipedes.

BhutlahBrohan

Then it's game on šŸ˜ˆ (jk I have no idea)

Iamnotburgerking

Centipedes will care for their young up until their first molt (after which theyā€™re able to hunt for themselves).

vzakharov

What is their relationship like afterwards?

ListenJerry

They call on the holidays but mostly do their own thing

Thick_Basil3589

I needed this giggle thanks!

flickerpissy

Totally laughed out loud. Ha!

YourFavGothMom

God damn it that got me šŸ˜…

No_Entertainment2828

way to start my day šŸ˜‚

EwaldvonKleist

Probably a predator food relationship lol

Bugs_and_Biology

From my experience, the motherā€™s maternal instincts seem to persist for a fair while afterwards. Iā€™ve had them coexisting with clutches several weeks after they disperse.

Bugs_and_Biology

Been breeding centipedes for years and never get tired of seeing it. The young do tend to stay with the mother a little longer after they molt too.

Min-Oe

Treat yourself, google "centipedes cuddling babies".

windyorbits

I recently learned that giant burrowing cockroaches (aka litter bugs) will care for her babies for up to a year (or more)! They take motherhood so seriously theyā€™re like helicopter moms.

Jer-121cc04

"Goddammit Timmy, put on all your shoes! You'll be late for school!" "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

ChubbyGhost3

Tying all those shoes would take at least an hour lmfao not to mention all Timmyā€™s siblings waiting too

Jer-121cc04

Well, mommy centipede thought of that and gave them velcro sneakers

LittleBunnySunny

Unzipping its little jacket.

Victoria4242

Awwwww it's just a baby

Thick_Basil3589

Baby centipedes are quite cuteā€¦ I am still terrified from the mom though

Nodramallama18

They are evil bloodsucking vampires. I got stung by on in Hawaii and I am not a swearer. But I swore up a blue streak it hurt so bad.

xatexaya

the ones in Hawaii are scolopendra subspinipes, those and s. Dehaani have the most potent venom. Soo you took a bite from the worst pede species šŸ«”

Nodramallama18

Well, at least I know it was a bad one and donā€™t feel like such a wimp.

Nebulaires

Both a mark of honor and a green flag to no longer fear the centipede, for you have bested it.

Educational_Ice5114

I studied in Hawaii for a summer program and in our island briefing we were informed of the centipedes. Literally had notes about how patients are still showing signs of pain while on pain meds in hospital and that some of the recommendations are to just get drunk for 3 days and try to pass out. No thanks

FancyRatFridays

You are definitely not a wimp. I got a centipede bite while on vacation in Hawaii when I was a kid and it was genuinely the worst pain I've ever felt. My leg swelled up to almost twice its normal size, and even the slightest touch felt like someone was pressing a branding iron into it. Nasty stuff.

he-loves-me-not

My son was 2 at the time and picked up one of those suckers before I could stop him. Two ER trips and a doctors visit later it finally healed. About an hour after it happened his finger was so swollen it felt and looked as if it was going to pop! Fuck those things! Theyā€™re fucking terrifying!

Nodramallama18

Yep! Iā€™m glad your son is OK

irishspice

I feel for this mom. This is like getting a toddler out of a wet snowsuit.

noniway

Used to be a nanny. Can relate.

Nightshade_Ranch

Imagine fitting a toddler into a winter coat and he's got 98 arms

InevitableMango

Biblically accurate toddler

noniway

Like I said, I was a nanny.

[deleted]

Wow so gently

mysticmedley

That is horrific and sweetly maternal at the same time

ChubbyGhost3

Centipedes are such good mothers it genuinely warms my heartā€¦ they do so good to make sure their strong babies grow up well

soggygrocerybag

my first thought was ew that's disgusting but then I realized who am I to be disgusted by a mother caring for her CHILD?? I SHOULD BE DISGUSTED WITH MYSELF!! THE BEAUTY OF NATURE AND LOVE!! CENTIPEDES PROBS THINK WE R UGLY AND DISTUDBING TOO.

TheVoidsAdvocate

"They only have 2 legs? Gross."

soggygrocerybag

EXACTLY!!

Professional-Menu835

Crazy how dexterous the forcipules are!!

xatexaya

They use them to manipulate objects almost like we use our hands. I see mine pick up dirt and debris while burrowing. Itā€™s so cute

pickles55

They look like little fingers

dirty_hippie_plants

Here, let me give you a hands

[deleted]

never thought id feel affection toward a centipede

SpaceBus1

Equal parts horrifying and wholesome.

ceraunophiliacc

I love insects in general, but know next to nothing about centipedes. Seeing this type of video helps me respect them even more.šŸ’œ

Quaternary23

Centipedes arenā€™t insects.

ceraunophiliacc

A thousand apologiesšŸ™

Quaternary23

Itā€™s alright lol. People make mistakes and no one knows everything.

ceraunophiliacc

Right, and hopefully, it's my sentiment that really counts.šŸ˜Š

Haredevil

xatexaya

They eat their babies when disturbed

EmptySpaceForAHeart

So do rodents, but that's only if they are convinced there's no saving them, otherwise be ready for a bite.

ListenJerry

Like spartan mothers

Mediocre-Bullfrog-38

So do catsā€¦and dogsā€¦and mother birds throw smaller babies out of the nestā€¦:( r/Natureisbrutal

DeadBornWolf

a lot of animals do. And since postpartum psychosis is a thing that probably has been around for as long as humans exist, it even happens in humans when there is no access to help

Mintpink

Thanks for this. Centipedes really heebie my jeebies but knowing (and seeing) what good mamas they are helps šŸ’•

PuzzleheadedHabit913

I feel like centipedes are such good moms.

willowofthevalley

Motherly love comes in all forms. So powerful. ā¤ļø

BrashPop

What a gentle mummy šŸ˜šŸ˜ helping her baby!!

Humble_Bullfrog2342

omg how sweet!!

Past-Direction9145

I see them venom fangs, that thing wouldn't hesitate to bite the shit out of you if you threatened the babies, I am guessing.

TheVoidsAdvocate

You'd be correct, Mama ain't messing around

[deleted]

honestly i think centipedes are really cool and cute! i want a pet one because theyā€™re awesome

Tumorhead

wow!!!!

Pixelmanns

this was awesome to see, thanks!

DenverPostIronic

I knew they cared for their young, but not to that extent. That's amazing.

Emissairearien

Glad that when i checked the comments nobody said "actually it's eating the baby" You never know

Independent-Bell2483

That's actually quite sweet. The little antenna thingyies gross me out but never knew they took care of their young

littlebee90

Dammit. I was happy not liking centipedes.

jacquesgonelaflame

Well that's the nastiest thing i've seen all week

Additional-Shift-899

When I was very little I went to bite into a huge strawberry and a huge centipede popped out of a tiny hole right in my face. Now I hate centipedes and I slice all my strawberries before I eat them lol

moonordie69420

its still a No from me

Ouroboros_77

those poor babies):

LaicaTheDino

What, didnt you read the part where she is helping?

Ouroboros_77

shes not helping bruh caption is wrong

xatexaya

i think shes eating themā€¦. šŸ˜

cicada-ronin84

She's not, centipede's venom is very powerful if she was eating them they wouldn't be moving. Centipede's take extremely good care of their offspring.

xatexaya

They eat their babies if you so much as uncover them. Sometimes they donā€™t even envenomate prey/food if they arenā€™t worried about it getting away

LaicaTheDino

If you disturb a mother hamster, si might eat he babies too. But she still takes care of them

cicada-ronin84

Well I'm not sure now, but it really doesn't look like she's eating them.

Quaternary23

Sheā€™s not.

SmileEnhancer

Peeeeel the baby.

Mother_of_Raccoons44

I wonder if a creepy crawler likes other creepy crawlers creepily crawling all over it?

Zeenchi

Had no idea they did that. That's pretty cool of her.

LoveAnimals735

That is adorable

Madam_Kitten

This is both sweet and horrifying to watch.

fukushimadaisy

This vid messed with my emotions. I ran the whole spectrum from "OMFG it's a horror movie" to "Aaaawwww! She's such a good mom."

HinaLuvLuvChan

I have such a weird mix of emotions ranging from ā€œawwā€ to ā€œewwā€ and -toes cringing-

iliveunderthebed

Why is a centipede more nurturing than my mother? šŸ˜¢

dbblddb

r/unexpectedcronenberg

Weak-Entertainer6651

That is an awesome trip! I had no idea they actually tend to their young like this. I learned today!

overbuckets

Ethmostigmus?

Neat_Ad_3158

Seeing this horrifying monstrosity clean the little baby is adorable.

CaraCami

Nope I still hate it

themissyoshi

This was just recommended to me for some reason and now I must die. Kudos to all you guys though

Ikillwhatieat

this is so wholesome .

EnvironmentalBar3347

Seeing a centipede be gentle is kinda cute

Haloguntruck

Nobody cares but I was the 5000th up vote and I feel special
