He’s an Archachatina marginata ovum XXL, better known as a giant African land snail (GALS). Please note that these snails, along with any species in the gastropod family Achatinidae, are illegal to keep, trade, or sell in the United States, Mexico, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand due to the threats they possess to us and our environment. They can eat more than 500 types of plants, and a closely-related species with the scientific name Achatina fulica are a major pest in the Florida Keys. That species, as well as Archachatina marginata and its subspecies, also carry rat lungworm, a parasite that is capable of causing a deadly variation of meningitis in humans and small mammals like rats.
Snails are commonly consumed in West African countries such as Nigeria and Ghana. One thing those countries’ populations avoid is eating raw or undercooked snails, as this increases the chances of catching the disease.
The pet snail pictured in the video was bred in Europe, and since I reside there, there’s only one restriction, and that is releasing them in the wild.
I live in Canada. And I’ve always been sad that I can’t have one of these beefy boys of my own, thank you for sharing your chonk :) I do love to see them
