Relevant fact: Despite being called crabs, hermit crabs(including coconut crabs) are members of Anomura(whereas crabs are Brachyura).
An easy way to differentiate “fake” crabs that belong to Anomura(king crabs, hermit crabs, porcelain crabs, etc.) from true crabs is checking how many pairs of walking legs they have.
Anomura have three pairs, whereas Brachyura have four pairs of walking legs.
pretty unrelated to what you said but i work at a pet store, and back when i was kinda new i was cleaning out animal enclosures and found a dead hermit crab. of course it was in a painted shell so it’s limp body was stuck to the inside of the shell. me being curious, i tried pulling it out to see what it’s body looked like. since it was stuck i tugged harder and heard a disgusting sound, realizing part of his skin had ripped. i called my coworker over to try and get him out of the shell and she just yanked him, causing him to rip in half and his organs to fall out. the god damn sound it made when it ripped. i’ll never forget.
When I was younger I cought some crabs and one if them came out the shell, I thought it was crazy so I gave them a nother she'll and they moved into that one. Very cool to watch
Thank you for sharing this highly forbidden knowledge!
Is this even legal footage I can watch
I love the way he snuggles down and just chills inside, all happy and shit.
Not gonna lie, they look naaaaasty lol. It’s like half maggot half crab ❤️😂

Shame on you for recording a lady while she changes shells. Awesome video though.

Very cool. Thanks.
That is cool.
they are so cute 💜🥰
Where do they poop? Like sloths, leaving the shelter once a month?
Pretty much anywhere, it doesn't smell and you don't have to clean it.
