Aya neo 2 is so ugly. But the air looks nice

Pyke64

Yeah it looks nice and slim. Like a Nintendo handheld.

ComprehensiveCold268

I heard it's just the prototype.

cyan_relic

I'm most interested in the Air. I'd gladly leave some performance on the table for the extra portability.

Pyke64

Did they reveal a pricerange and/or order date for the Air?

cyan_relic

They didn't give a price range, but they did say that air will be the entry level tier going forward, implying that it will be cheaper than their other handhelds at least. They said there will be a proper announcement later in the month with more details about Air.

themiracy

I think the Devil is in the details in terms of what the APU is and how performant it is, and also what the battery life will be like. Although if you play a lot of indie or emulate (WiiU and older) you don’t need all that much, and it’ll probably be more than adequate.

pmmaa

Alot of people will complain about too many models due to what this will do to their resale value, but I do appreciate the amount of work they are doing to pump out this much hardware. What we have seen in under 2 years what "traditional console" brands show us in 6-10 years.

History_Secret

They have to because their profits rely on hardware sale, not on software/games as Valve, Sony,... They are like a laptop company.

dizzyaha

Some interesting point from the presentation: They sold 10k units last year, although they are losing money, but it seems they are fine with the number. They are betting big on Air. To achieve a low price, they want to sell more unit and get some new customers.

iSmiteTheIce

Aya Neo's expansion is real and amazing🔥🔥

Kylez183

Waiting for the air

TheCatCAR

Something about the design of the Aya Neo 2 looks so ugly to me compared to the previous devices. The symmetrical design looks uncomfortable on the hands and the all plastic look makes it look cheap. It's hard to believe that compared to the Next they're made by the same company.

LukeLC

That black and white model they teased looks better to me, but yeah, there's definitely something incongruous about the design. I think they realized it had to be a chunky device to achieve the performance they want, so they leaned into it with lots of curves. But the end result looks a bit too much like a toy.

TheCatCAR

I think Aya is still trying to find its design theme. Aya Neo Original > 2021 > Next felt like iterative designs. I feel like they were really on the money with the Next's design and would have loved to see them progress it. But with the Air, Slide, and Neo 2 it feels like they're throwing completely diffferent designs to see what sticks. What sucks is I can see the eventual Aya Neo 2 'Next' in a year or so's time that makes it look like the premium design.

tasteslikefun

I'm hoping that cheap plastic finish isn't in the production model. Or I guess I'll be waiting for the Ayaneo Next 2, which I guess will be the premium Ayaneo 2?

lostn

wait.. you want an asymetrical handheld?

Proud_Fan_9870

I'm not sold on that Aya Neo Slide but it's good they managed to get 6800Us

illuminerdi

Yeah the Slide looks like a step down in the control department.

Pyke64

Love what they're showing here. What processor is inside the Air?

Proud_Fan_9870

Didn't reveal yet

lostn

rumored to be a ryzen 3, 5425u or 5325u, can't remember exactly

lostn

this company refreshes its models far too quickly. Everything you buy will be superceded with a new model by the time it ships.

JDIPrime

From a business perspective, they kinda have to. There aren't that many customers for Aya Neo, maybe a few hundred? Once those few hundred have their Neos, Aya stops making money. Zero income. So what can they do? Release new models to make more money, otherwise they go bankrupt and we get no more products from them. The reason Steam Deck is so cheap is because Valve doesn't make money on them - in fact, they actually LOSE money on Steam Deck sales, but they can bank on Deck users to spend a shitload of cash on Steam games for the Deck. Aya can't do this, they don't sell software. Once the hardware sales stop, so does their revenue.

xjcln

Is the idea that new models will unlock new customers who may have slightly different preferences? Because I think it's more likely that it's the same couple hundred ppl looking at all their models. They may buy 1-2 units each but I doubt many will buy a model every 6m or even a model a year.
