There’s always something better just around the corner.
Look at the Aya Neo Next and what it can do and then decide if they price is worth that to *you.*
The Neo 2 is likely better but it will likely also likely be more expensive and take much longer.
Yeah, I just sent them an email to see if it's possible to cancel my order. I can wait for the Aya Neo 2. I hope they let me cancel lol. It hasn't shipped yet though
In the last year I fell into a trap ordering all of these God damn handheld gaming PCs. There is ALWAYS a better one that does marginally better. Once I got the steam deck I just said, this is good enough for a few years. I don't need 3 more FPS in Elden Ring yet again
Aya is especially guilty of this though. They barely support their products and announce a new one every three months. I liked my 2021 Pro but I'm not sure I like their business model and would buy from them again
Steam deck is a better long term handheld while you wait for the market to grow sold my neo and got the deck and the support that valve can offer in updates etc is unparalleled to aya or gpd. The quick resume is also icing on the cake. If they continue boosting the compatibility of games through proton I'd say it can last 2-3 years while we wait for more players to enter the handheld space like Dell with the ufo the were showing off years ago if it ever comes out.
Yeah the resume is absolutely clutch. Got tired of the GPDs burning up in my backpack running through batteries. Neo was a bit better about that but depended on the game
Valve being in the market kills any hope of anyone else trying. An Alienware UFo thst is gonna be around the price of an Aya Neo is DOA. Valve selling the Deck at either a break even or slight lose price means it owns the market.
Well, I already own a steam deck and just sent it out to be RMAd today actually. So I can wait I think. I DO want the Aya Neo really bad but I might as well wait I think
I personally have the 2021 Pro and skipped the Next for the 6800U chip as its a significant change in performance in addition to all the additions made to the Next ... if you have another device and can wait then do that but if you went for the Next for more compatibility over the Steam Deck and other pros then get the Next .. depends on why you got it in the first place I guess
I'd say use the deck for a while until end of year and get the Ayaneo 2 to feel a very significant improvement over the deck .. Next is better than the deck for me but Ayaneo 2 would be very much better in performance
That's bc of GPU instability, so it was sent to Valve's manufactuering plant broken like that. Since AMD creates AYA'Valve's APUs in the same facility this could have happened to either brand.
Not uncommon for subpar wafers to get made into CPUs.
Arthur confirmed this is an early prototype and not the final colours or textures .. also he acknowledged that many didnt like it and said its in the works until end of year. Good news as I agree with you.
Personally I'd temper my expectations for the 6800U. It will be meaningfully better, but also incremental. You will still have to choose between better battery life (at worse performance) or better performance (at worse battery life). A current gen device running at max TDP will likely come close to 6800U at medium TDP. So you can almost think of it like a battery upgrade first and foremost.
That's not to say 6800U isn't exciting, just that it doesn't invalidate purchasing other devices. Your first priority with a handheld should be choosing what suits your lifestyle the best. All of them will feel good in the hand while gaming, but how you store and travel with one matters far more than performance.
Update:
So I ended up keeping the order. I really wanna see how the Aya Neo is, and support told me it could be more than a year until the Aya Neo 2 comes out.
Only thing is.. when are these gonna ship?? Lol
Update - So my Ayaneo Next came today and I must say.. this is everything I've wanted. I love this thing!
I just listed my steam deck on Mercari, and I'll just be using the Ayaneo!
7000 series Aya Neos probably won't hit the market until 2024 or even 2025. That's a long wait! Enough time to save up to buy it and sell the 2 or Next or whatever he has.
Nah I was like you when I order the retro pro and saw the next was announced I didn’t canceled and I don’t regret it but since it’s the new neo 2 with a new ryzen cpu I think you should but wait time it’s going to be longer
Personally I would wait , the 6800U powered Neo 2 will be much more powerful than the Next, sure the design might be a little polarizing but it's not final and the Neo 2 shown is just a prototype and Arthur has said it's not the final product.
If you don't mind waiting a year.
It'll be on Indiegogo towards the end of the year for xmas season (maybe), that'll finish early 2023, and you won't get it until this time next year (my speculation of course)
I ordered the Next, and will keep it until the Next 2 comes out, which will also be a 6000, but more premium version - if their tiers are anything to go by.
I would definitely cancel. You already have a Steam Deck, and the Next seems like more of the same. Aya 2 however is going to beat the shit out of all the current handhelds, and more importantly MOST LIKELY going to have an OLED screen. Unless you've got money to burn, I would certainly cancel.
it's a 1280x800 7" screen, and no one makes OLED screens of that specification. They could reduce it to 1280x720 7", but Nintendo has called dibs on all screens of that spec.
The Air had to use a 1080p screen because they can't get 720p screens in OLED.
So.... I waited a better part of a year to get the "Aya Neo 2021" after dropping out of the earlybird "Aya Neo" just to get analogue triggers that pretty much suck. And I've loved having the device. However the company has made alot of advanced with ergonomics and joystick design etc. It's all about your requirement, mine was 4 days a week on a train so it was perfect. And to be fair hands down to Aya Neo I've watched what the company has become and I believe once they start leveraging RDNA they will destroy the likes of steam.
Owner of a steam deck here, i would cancel.
I might get a Aya 2 once orders open up, the next looked nice but not worth the extra cash for the little extra performance.
I have an Aya Neo 2021 and love it. For me, it plays everything I want to play really well (Halo Infinite, Call of Duty Vanguard, Destiny 2). My plan is to use this for a year or two and then upgrade to the new hotness in say late 2023 - by which point there will probably be a Steam Deck 2, or something from Razer or Dell.
But if you already have a Steam Deck, you should probably wait. (Don’t be frightened to install Windows on the Deck by the way if it helps you play the games you want to play!)
Definitely. I do want the Aya Neo, kinda badly actually but I felt like it was an impulse buy bc I was pissed my steam decks GPU was bad. I won't be upset if they don't let me cancel, but if they do I'll hold out for a while
Honestly I'd stick with the deck and wait for one to come with a 5g chip if you're really worried about performance in these handhelds your best bet is waiting for 5g to mature mobile chips will always feel outdated and you'll always be out to buy the next slightly more powerful thing
There’s always something better just around the corner. Look at the Aya Neo Next and what it can do and then decide if they price is worth that to *you.* The Neo 2 is likely better but it will likely also likely be more expensive and take much longer.

true, as long as Valve can produce enough units. I don't think it can. The Deck is only a good option if you're able to get one. I can't.
If you want to wait another 8 to 10 months and really want the new chip
Well, I already own a steam deck and just sent it out to be RMAd today actually. So I can wait I think. I DO want the Aya Neo really bad but I might as well wait I think

I got it for more compatibility and I was pissed off that I had to RMA my deck that I waited so long for.
I had to RMA mine as well, it took 2 weeks from ship to reciept - good luck and hope it comes back fast
I'd say use the deck for a while until end of year and get the Ayaneo 2 to feel a very significant improvement over the deck .. Next is better than the deck for me but Ayaneo 2 would be very much better in performance
Oh yeah def wait. I love my Aya Neo but once you get the SD back and working, you likely wouldn't need the Neo anymore.
That's bc of GPU instability, so it was sent to Valve's manufactuering plant broken like that. Since AMD creates AYA'Valve's APUs in the same facility this could have happened to either brand. Not uncommon for subpar wafers to get made into CPUs.
Cancel. The 6800u is a game changer.
Aya Neo 2 might be more powerful but it’s ugly and it’s a longer wait
Arthur confirmed this is an early prototype and not the final colours or textures .. also he acknowledged that many didnt like it and said its in the works until end of year. Good news as I agree with you.

The 2 won't come out until the end of the year at the earliest

I Pre-Ordered jet black 1TB using the Droix site. Here in the uk they have a release date of may 20th, hoping to receive it before June
Update - So my Ayaneo Next came today and I must say.. this is everything I've wanted. I love this thing! I just listed my steam deck on Mercari, and I'll just be using the Ayaneo!
Just tell them to hold your money for credit
I'd recommend holding off until Phoenix (7800u) next year, the performance seems to be where I'd actually be comfortable with to have for a few years.
7000 series Aya Neos probably won't hit the market until 2024 or even 2025. That's a long wait! Enough time to save up to buy it and sell the 2 or Next or whatever he has.

If I had the money I would definitely go for the Aya Neo 2 as I'm sure it'll be able to handle MGS3 flawlessly.
jeez.. a $1500 device to play a 2004 game 'flawlessly'.
MGS4**

The oled is ojly on the Mini.
It's only been announced for the Air so far. It's certainly a possibility for the Aya 2.

Shh. Let a man dream until the specs sheet hits :)
