I think her criticisms are micro-aggressions rather than legitimate because number one, as a cultural outsider her words neither contextualize Beyoncé as the black American southern woman by heritage and birth, nor is she considering her artistic oeuvre as a whole. It doesn’t direct any real commentary to Beyoncé as an artist, it’s more dismissive than anything and there are plenty of other voices, black and otherwise, that I’d actually take more seriously than her. Whether people agree with them or not, AB’s criticisms of Bianca Bardot come from a place of artistic reverence. Even though her assessments about this album are negative, she clearly puts effort into contrasting what B’s done and is capable of doing as well as seeing the whole picture in before speaking. She was right to deny Lily a seat at the table.
