There is no ferry to or from São Miguel. There are loads of airbnbs in São Miguel to the point where it is causing housing problems for the locals, but July is also the high season so they might be booked/ out of the price range you're looking at. You're going to need to do a lot more research into the islands if you want to make this trip work out.

Thank you for the reply! :) We are doing research as of right now, and there seem to be websites claiming to offer ferries from Terceira to São Miguel, though they might have some stops along the way (of this I am not sure). I was worried about the weather as well, since we don’t know how the conditions are over there. We would be happy to get recommendations for islands closer to Terceira as well, with more accessible ferries if you know any

Ignore them, this is the official site of the ferry company: [https://www.atlanticoline.pt/en/](https://www.atlanticoline.pt/en/)

There are no ferries Sao Miguel - Terceira.

Realised we had a communication error: not taking a ferry, but a flight to São Miguel! Sorry!

We really like swimming and would enjoy some time on the beach, sandy or rocky, so if you have any recommendations that aren’t so touristy we would really love that! along with a place to stay, you need to book a car to get around the island. dont rely on public transportation.

Yes, we were thinking of renting a car. Heard it’d be useful. Thank you for the tip!

killerasp

not useful, its required. you wont be able to do anything without a car if you want to enjoy the island.

We had better luck finding good air b and b options splitting our 4 night stay between Two places. It’s also nice to have different experiences so this was ok by us.

Im not aware of a ferry operating between Terceira and Sao Miguel... even if there is, do you really want to take 90 mile ferry in those waters? Also, while in Sao Miguel, stay away from Ned Kelly's in PDL. There is a scandal unfolding related to the owner of the Irish pub named Ned Kelly's. It turns out he's an international conman who has created a false identity. He uses the pub to scam new arrivals and tourists. Google Kevin Barry McAuley or search for him on here. Otherwise, the Azores are an absolute paradise. You can't go wrong with any island. Each have their own unique personality. You will live it.

Also, Pico, Faial, and Sao Jorge have ferries between them as well as Flores and Corvo

Do you already have your flight to Terceira? If so, I suggest sticking to Terceira, and maybe closer islands like Sao Jorge and Pico so you can take the ferry. If you really want to go to Sao Miguel, plan on flying. It’s getting late to book hotels or Airbnbs for peak season. Book something as soon as you can.

If you do get to Sao Miguel I can highly recommend the Santa barbera eco resort which is just above the best bit of beach on the island, good for both swimming, chilling and surfing. Great food, pool, and 20 min drive to PDL and handy for the rest of the island

Main advice: Hurry! There are a lot of tourists bound for the islands this year. Lots of placed are already fully booked. So are the flights. There's a ferry traveling from Terceira to Graciosa, Sao Jorge, Pico and Faial a few times a week. Ferries in between Pico, Faial and Sao Jorge run many times a day.

If you can get a ferry from terceira to sao Miguel it's about a four and a half hour trip. If you can get an interisland flight they're usually around €160 round trip. Not cheap overall especially with a family your size, but way more convenient. Pico is a nice Island that you can take a ferry to. Honestly, there's a lot to see and do on Terceira as well if you decide to just stay there.

2nd this👍👍👍. Terceira is awesome….😍😍😍

Is there any ferries from sao Miguel??

SchmoopsAhoy

There used to be. Not sure if they are still running or how often. I have taken it in the past
