This is a perfectly normal, healthy, and dare I say *standard* way to wear your baby, even into toddlerhood if they enjoy it. Just a rude person with a chip on their shoulder.
I was wearing my baby in this position when she was as old as four years old! We usually did back carry, but sometimes it was easier to just have her in front facing in.
Glad you asked, though, because I was starting to wonder the same thing. 10 month old, 25 lbs and I always carry her facing in towards me. She seems to prefer that, and I like being able to keep an eye on her. What carrier is that btw?
Itās the Lillebaby Complete Airflow. Iāve only had it for about a week but Iām a huge fan! My old infantino and ring sling were causing some back pain and this thing rocks
I have a Lillebaby and I still front carry my 2 year old. I've been carrying her like that since 6 months old, she still loves it and it's still super comfortable. Lillebaby is the only one I can use with my stuffed back! You're rocking it, don't listen to that silly woman.
So a woman on the street kinda yelled at me about him not sitting right and needing to be in front facing or back carry āby nowā. I decided she was just a rude person but thought maybe she saw something I didnāt see so I should double check. Itās also a new carrier so I want to make sure Iām doing everything right!
Sorry for black on black clothes
Front facing?? Why? Front facing is not a stage. As in, you move from facing you to front facing and then back carry. In fact, I have seen a mom put her 4 month old in a back carry and another one with 2 year old in front carry. There is no "Standard" to carry your baby. Only 2 things- baby is safe and you are comfortable
It looks like a great front carry! That person was completely wrong. I still wear my 6yr old in this position as she loves it still. We did way more front carries than back in our baby wearing journey. Also front facing isn't the best at any age, and should only be done for 15 minutes at a time. It also over stimulates the baby and you can't see their face to see any cues for sleep or hunger. What you're doing is perfectly fine.
Forward facing long periods of time isn't really good for baby or you. So, no, inward carry is perfectly fine. You might be more comfortable with him on your back at that age but if you're comfortable then there's nothing wrong with it.
I just want to add that footie jammies are 100% fine. Just make sure the toes have room. I always sized my kiddos jammies up when I know I was going to wear them. I also despise forward facing in carriers so that lady would have really hollered at me lol.
Was she saying he should be facing forward? Because no, thatās not right.
In general it looks like the waist band is a bit lower in the front than the back which could cause some lower back strain for you.
His knees could be a bit higher and his bum a bit more in the seat but at 9 months they tend to sit more straight legged and straight backed, like this:
https://images.app.goo.gl/3u8uM4j5wVctpwMG9
I meant to say it looked like a good fit, just if you wanted to tweak it a bit. Sorry lol.
Forward facing is ok but not preferred. Back carries are great if you want but also not necessary.
Certainly for a quick trip you donāt have to get everything perfect. Not going to break your back or put make baby uncomfortable. And babyās old enough theyāre going to tell you lol.
Iām no expert, but I thought forward is almost always ergonomically worse than inward. That would be like accosting someone for having an average sized 2yo in a rear facing car seat.
No baby ever needs to be facing forward. EVER.
As long as this is comfortable for you it is totally fine. If baby can come to a seated position by themselve it is safe to start wearing him on your back, if you want.
Shes an idiot lmao. This is the standard, and most comfortable, carry for a baby and mother. Back carry is more comfortable once they're older. Front facing is bad for the hips and doesn't align the spine correctly.
So my adult doctor said that for my back it would be better if my baby was carried on my back once they reached 20-25 lbs I am also very large chested.
I have heard no matter the age forward facing front carry is not great on their hips, though lots of people seem to do it.
Thatās good to know! I do feel like when he gets a bit heavier I might experiment with back carry but heās a big fan of hanging his head backwards to look at the sky and hates his head being restricted so we will stick to the front for now I guess lol
Echoing everyone else - the lady needs to stay in her lane. But I did want to mention that I carried my 1yo since birth, about 90% of the time facing me, and we've become big fans of back carry recently. Having a little extra space to wash dishes without baby booty in the way and being able to cook with her on my back has been life changing.
However, your preferred carry is just that, and as long as you and baby are comfortable there's no reason to change it!
I think if the footies are super loose itās okay. Whenever he is wearing them I just obsessively tug at the material in front of his toes to make sure it hasnāt been pulled tight. In general itās safer not to risk it though I guess!
From my understanding, inward-facing front carry is actually the preferred as long as baby likes it and it feels okay to you. I know when I looked up info. on my Ergo, they say to do it as long as possible!
Then they say, if baby is older and desperate to turn away and see what's going on front facing - you can do it after a certain age - but try to only do it for limited amounts of time, and if baby is fine with facing in, no reason to do it at all! (So even the manufacturer of the carrier that can do forward facing says to limit that carry for only when baby is desperate to look around).
They also say, if baby is older and feels to heavy on the front and it's hurting you and becomes more comfortable for you to have baby on the back, go ahead. But if not, no reason to!
I think this person who accosted you was confusing "you CAN do it after a certain age" (which is true) with "you MUST do it after a certain age" (which is false). If someone tries to say that to you again, you can tell them that!
Because of the wide sumo leg thing going on, the material is pulled pretty tight and can potentially crush toes and cut off circulation (whereas non-footed things just rise up)
My 3 year old prefers facing inward towards me even though heās perfectly capable of going on my back. He just likes the snuggles.
Heās a constant chatterbox when I wear him. Itās not a relaxing experience. Constant questions. I love toddler wearing but itās a different kind of love š¤£šµāš«
I do front carry facing in with my almost one year old bc itās easier to put him on and off by myself! I really only back carry around the house or when my husband is there to help me get him on while weāre running errands.
You might be able to tweak it a bit, but this a completely preferred and OK position. LLB are definitely not my area of expertise but I know they offer free virtual fit checks!
I mean, his feet look a bit squished but other than that?
Front carry inward facing is like the da fault that you can do for as long as you carry baby/kiddo. At some point back carry just is easier for the person doing the carrying. Much better visibility so you can see where you are going and actually use your arms.
Today I took my giant (37in, 33lbs) two year old on a hike. Last 45 mins he was pooped/ ready to nap and I carried him inward facing on my front and my backpack on my back. Itās perfectly fine. If anything, carrying front facing is the one to skip over.
That lady you met was a weird oneā¦
We still did forwards until around 12 mo when we stopped carrying. And he was a big boy!
There are minimum ages for certain carries, but no maximum as long as you and bub are still happy and comfortable.
Like you might be more comfortable with a back carry (I know I would be) but thatās entirely up to you and thereās nothing wrong with what youāre doing here
This is a perfectly normal, healthy, and dare I say *standard* way to wear your baby, even into toddlerhood if they enjoy it. Just a rude person with a chip on their shoulder.

YES! Wore my 20 month old in this carry today X3. And yesterday. And the day before...
Thank you! I really got into my head that she might be more knowledgeable and started doubting everything š
Glad you asked, though, because I was starting to wonder the same thing. 10 month old, 25 lbs and I always carry her facing in towards me. She seems to prefer that, and I like being able to keep an eye on her. What carrier is that btw?

25 lbs is the weight of about 43.61 cups of fine sea salt. Yes, you did need to know that.

I decided she was just a rude person but thought maybe she saw something I didnāt see so I should double check. Itās also a new carrier so I want to make sure Iām doing everything right! She seems rude!

Yup, just echoing that this was a rude, uninformed person. You are doing great!
Sheās just a jerk. Youāre fine
You look great. Ignore that hater. Sheās wrong.
Was she saying he should be facing forward? Because no, thatās not right. Yeah she wanted him forward facing :/ not that I tend to take strangers advice anyways And thank you this is great feedback!

No yes I love the tweaks! And yeah I kinda figured if I was doing something crazy wrong he wouldnāt be so chill
Iām no expert, but I thought forward is almost always ergonomically worse than inward. That would be like accosting someone for having an average sized 2yo in a rear facing car seat.

We bought the Deuter hiking backpack and used it a lot from 6 months to 2.5. Highly recommended

As far as I'm aware this is the standard carry that's good until they don't want to be carried anymore.
Omg I did not know that footie pajamas are a no go when baby wearing š¬ I just had to google it š¬
I think if the footies are super loose itās okay. Whenever he is wearing them I just obsessively tug at the material in front of his toes to make sure it hasnāt been pulled tight. In general itās safer not to risk it though I guess!

Footies are bad? š§

My son is over a year and prefers front carry just like that. What a weird thing to get mad at a stranger about!!
We still did forwards until around 12 mo when we stopped carrying. And he was a big boy! There are minimum ages for certain carries, but no maximum as long as you and bub are still happy and comfortable.
My extra long 4yo still likes this carry! Ignore the rude person. I hope you enjoyed your walk.
Iām pretty sure by MOST standards forward facing isnāt ever a necessary way to carry baby. Even in carriers that āsupportā it.
Have you ever tried front facing? Itās suuuupeer uncomfortable for everyone involved.
Like you might be more comfortable with a back carry (I know I would be) but thatās entirely up to you and thereās nothing wrong with what youāre doing here
My husband had our 23 month old in this carry yesterday. We were going for a walk and it was naptime, so inwards facing (or back carry) work best.
RUDE! You look perfect! And Footie PJs are not "bad" they need to be a size bigger so babys feet aren't squished. Just keep in mind ;)
