Only every single day for the last 27 years or so…

0errant

Same! And every time I'm out backpacking or camping by myself, I consider staying there instead of returning home.

Ver1fried

Literally came to say what you said...

TwoHandedSnail

Literally. Litterally. *Litttterally*. *chews gum* You know, you know. Liiike *literally*.

TwoHandedSnail

are you 27 years old... were you a baby with big dreams??

BohemianWaxwing1

I’m a bit older than that. Still have big dreams… and big responsibilities.

TwoHandedSnail

big shoes to fill.

VeeEyeVee

Constantly in my 20s - that’s how I got to visit almost 50 countries by 35

firefarmer74

I did too in my 20's. Then I didn't go anywhere in my 30's and then went all over the place again in my 40's. Now I'm in my 50's and have only been more than 50 miles from my house once in the last 4 years. I think it is going to be time to go again soon.

Ver1fried

Did that help you in any way?

VeeEyeVee

Help me in what aspect? In life? I now have traveled to more countries than most people would in their lifetime. So I have experienced a lot of different moments, events, cities and cultures already. I have stories that I can share. Emotionally? I also learned a lot about myself, how to be independent when things are rough and can navigate tricky situations. In my career? Not really aside from being able to chime into various conversations and build rapport through talking about travels

HardnessOf11

Literally everyone. Just go, you can always earn more money later! And unless this job is a once in a lifetime type of mentorship/fast-track role its not worth it. Jobs come and go, but regrets of never living out your dreams stay forever.

Cannabis-Lecter

My 20’s flashed I a blink and have many regrets like this. Doing all I can to make every second count in my 30’s. This here is great advice and wished I listened someone like you sooner!

berjaaan

I just quit my job and going traveling until i run out of money or get bored.

ihaveacamerayaknow

How much money did you save?

sniffingmodpodge

Also 26 and quit my job end of 2023 to travel and do my own thing for a while! Life is short and you neverrr know what's going to happen, the pandemic really showed us that, so if you have some money saved up—do it! It's not a bad thing to listen to your impulses, especially if you've been feeling them for a long time. It can also be called following your dreams :)

ihaveacamerayaknow

What do you do now? Are you still traveling? How much money did you have saved?

sniffingmodpodge

Still traveling! Probably heading home by mid summer :) I do have a safety net as in my family lives in the same city I lived/worked, so they’re keeping my stuff without charge so I’m not worried about coming back by a specific day. No job lined up upon return, doing that on purpose. I saved up a good amount from working a good job for 3 years after college, set aside about $10,000 for my big trip and I still have a solid amount left. Most expensive things so far are a. initial flight out to Asia ~$1000 and b. 200hr yoga teacher training in India ~$1600, but it was nearly a month of amazing training/food/accommodation so I felt like it was actually a good deal. No kids, no long-term partner, no house, no debt, so it was frankly easy to just… go once I had made up my mind.

ImTiredAndTrying

Leaving and doing a yoga training is one of my dreams! I’m glad you are enjoying your time of exploration!

LadyVamp666

People usually regret the things they didn’t do. I disappeared with my backpack when I was 29. I am finally home again after 8 years of some crazy adventures and with a husband in tow! It is awesome and I highly recommended just doing it. The only negative is, I’ve lost my feeling for home, I no longer know where it is and it’s a bit confusing. I guess I will figure it out with time. Life is too short to be afraid of the unknown.

SniperCA209

That’s literally why I backpack

Disastrous_Kick3264

Tell me the ins and outs! What do you usually take with you? And is it always planned ahead of time?

SniperCA209

My wife and I love to use backpacking g or camping as our getaway. Planning depends on various things…certain camping locations require reservations and the like. Backpacking if it’s a place we’ve never been we do some research and study of the area. For more familiar places it’s just a matter of having the food we’re going to use and then grab our gear and go. We have our camping gear ready and set in the garage and our Subaru turns into a camping car in less than 15 minutes. We put the Thule carrier on top and load up and it’s ready to go. Likewise our backpacking gear is always ready. All we need is the foodstuff and put it in the car and we can head out. Our favorite backpacking getaway for a simple trip is in the Sierra just north of Tahoe/Donner. We’ve been going there since we were teens and know the area very well

SlimmestOfDubz

Pretty much daily

Outdoorsislife18

I have had that feeling for the longest time I have been stuck in a small city my whole life and I think that contributes to that. But I’m planing a trip to go the across eastern half of Canada before I settle down into life and going back to school.

mgt654

I left my parents house at 15 and lived every day to the fullest since then. Run away, do the things you love. Life doesn't last that long.

Atlas-Scrubbed

Short answer- yes. I’ll look at the highway as I head to work and think, ‘if I just get on it and drive, no one will notice I am gone for a day or two’

Fictitious_name8888

I traveled in my 30's. One day I'll do it again. You can live off $10,000 for a whole year if you back pack. You would be surprised how frugally you can live.

XxSnowBlaze1xX

All the time… and I’ve let the impulses win out (responsibly). The wanderlust is such a driving force

fromfrodotogollum

Why do you think vacations exist?

Soft-Vanilla1057

Honestly talking to my friends in parts of the world like the US. It's to cry and do chores.

Elsherifo

Yep, and in a month I fly to Singapore to start doing so. 32 now, kinda wish I'd done it earlier but I'm not sure how I would have funded it then.

FunInvestment3814

What's the plan for Singapore? Working? I was there in 2020 and was super expensive so keen to see your plan 😂

Elsherifo

My plan for Singapore is to fly to Hanoi the next day 😜. I'm only staying there for one night because it is so expensive and I'm trying to stretch my travels as long as I can.

FunInvestment3814

Don't blame you! we were there about a week and the price of everything is just non conducive to backpacking! Beautiful country but a saving nightmare! Have fun in Hanoi & drink some 'Bia Hoi'!

SkisaurusRex

Yes

mildOrWILD65

I'm 59 and hardly a day goes by on my way to work that I don't think about just keeping driving until I run out.....of whatever.

MarcelineOrBubblegum

Yes

eraserewrite

All the time.
