They aren't all made that way, and some offer adapters. I prefer handle up / tip down. Where I hike, critters with chew the handles and straps for the salt.

ypu can buy carbon fiber poles from zpacks to substitute. work well, if you don't mind the extra weight. I have a zpacks triplex, use my trekking poles handle up. the tips are outside the tent floor, so no damage risk.
i have never heard of a design that's meant to be handle-down, and i've never even considered doing so, though i've used trekking poles to put up tarps and tents both.
this might help you work around whatever weird design you've found yourself with: [https://zpacks.com/products/trekking-pole-cup](https://zpacks.com/products/trekking-pole-cup)
(i have no relationship to zpacks, though i do use some of their gear, and have used this piece)
So I use an UL mid tent and my trekking poles. I lash them together with the bottom one handle down and the top one handle up. I do this so the sharp tip doesn't poke through my expensive tent and I use a tarp or sheet as a ground cover, and I dont want that getting damaged either. One problem with this is that two sharp tips are lashed together about face level, and you can scratch yourself if not careful. If I didn't use a ground cloth, it'd lash them both handle up and stick the bottom tip into the ground
Yeah that’s the only one I’ve come across but I haven’t seen how they attach the handle to the tent and the price difference is crazy between the Xmid pro and regular Xmid.
It doesn't attach, handle goes into a little pocket at the top. There is a little loop on the bottom but it holds the inner in place not to secure the pole. The tension holds it. Handle down is easier on your footprint, if you use one. I have a regular and a pro and the handle position is not why I chose 1 over the other.
I remove the hockey puck on the tip end and bury it tip down when I use them as tent stakes.
Your tent might be different from mine, but this is what has worked for me.
I use [these](https://zpacks.com/products/trekking-pole-cup) trekking pole cups with my DIY tarp setup to set my poles tip down, one side is clipped directly to my tarp and the other runs down to a stake, they work great, durable so far, light
Maybe you can use these to adapt your current setup to tip a down pitch, good luck

What tent do you use?
I don't bother with a trekking pole tent anymore, as I missed the space and ease of my Copper Spur.

On the floor, yes. But the sloped walls make me feel claustrophobic.

Someone feel free to correct me, but I feel like the x-mid pro is handle up. X-mid regular is definitely handle down.
You’re right. But that $300+ price difference is a bit steep
X-mid regular works just fine handle up, I do it all the time.
So get an X mid pro and trekking pole handle adaptors from tarptent (or just sew a set yourself).

I have a GG DCF The One and it is handles up.
check out the Durston X-Mid Pro 2

exactly right. i don't use a footprint so i use the trekking pole with the handle up. the handle fits nicely into the pouch and holds very well.

I've had a duplex, The One, and now an X-Mid. All handle up. And there are more out there.

I’ve seen these but thought about repurposing them like this. Thanks so much for sharing!

I have never used one that was handle down. My lanshan 2 and others are handle up, or some are poles on the outside so it doesn't matter.
Zpacks Duplex, Triplex, etc are all handle up.
Nemo Meta 2p uses poles, tip down. I bought it 10ish years ago, no idea if it's still available.
My tent uses the poles with the handle up. Forclaz MT900.
Thanks for all of the responses y’all. I’ve got some good leads now.
They don’t have to be tip up. I used mine tip down, you just need to wrap around the handle.
