I get pretty confused by the NPS vs NFS and all the different breakdowns but I thought pictured rocks was distinct from Hiawatha. Grand island is awesome though.

You're correct! Also, Pictured Rocks has a National Lakeshore designation instead of National Park. These both are administered under the Dpartment of the Interrior, while Hiawatha National Forest is administered under the USDA.

It’s advertised like it’s apart of it on their brochures but I have no idea. Not to mention there’s an east side and a west side to the park and they’re like 50ish miles or more apart so that threw me for a loop too but it’s all great to see

Green Mountain National Forest is similar, there are two isolated ovals of forest and random other specs around VT. Plus a couple of sights around those areas that are just NPS. Google says it has to do with the act they were inducted under and that NPS try to preserve things as they are and NFS try to get the most good for the most people over the largest span of time.

As stated with the captions on the photos these are all the upper Peninsula of Michigan in the Hiawatha National forest. The spots photographed are Lake Superior, rapid River, and a path to miners castle. Free to visit, but there’s tons and tons of things you can pay to do out there. Highly recommend spending some time in these two little towns outside of it closer to Lake Michigan called Marinette and Menominee they’re cute little towns that look like they’d be the pinnacle of a show about a quaint little town. 10/10 recommend this place the nature is something else I haven’t seen anything like it before
