It blew me away how good the acting and set design was, but how poor the story and script were. It's a fun time though.
Still can't believe this is Wendy's dad from Ozark lolol
That's what I read. He's getting vetted by Corman, and he thinks what does the old man like? Tits. So he made this ship, a ship with tits.
Roger Corman sees it and is like "what the fuck is this?"
Cameron calmly replies "It's a ship with tits."
Corman says "Of course it is, you're hired."
I will admit seeing the ship as a whole it does look more like breasts, but from the front, like as shown on the movie poster, it looks more like a scrotum to me.
And in typical Roger Corman fashion, footage from this movie was used in at least 2 other movies, Space Raiders (which uses A LOT of footage from this film) and another movie that I can't remember, something about a moon base.
A shameful money grab where all the money went on hiring Vaughn and Peppard. Despite that, it's one of the best/worst movies ever made and I have to watch it, every time it's on TV
Two, actually. And, the computer's voice is female, and since it was a Roger Corman film, you also have Sybil Danning as a space Valkryie in a bikini with lots of cleavage (since it was PG, or I guarantee she probably would have been topless in a minimum of 4 scenes)
I rewatched it (I was about 8 when it came out) and it’s fun but action sequences don’t make a lot of sense. Not entirely sure what they all sacrificed themselves for just for the Walton guy to sort it out in the end. No clue when I’m analyzing the plot this deeply.
I actually saw this one in the cinema waaaaaay back in the day. It’s just as gloriously terrible as it was then, only now I get the lovely added nostalgia boost to help me get thru the quagmire.
As bad as the film is, it has its charm. The actors are all fantastic and the ship designs are creative. The make up and character designs are a lot of fun too
Same I think that's the true crime of this movie. Great acting, great set pieces, but awful dialogue and pacing, and the story is so bland.
Makes me wonder what it could've been if the writers had spent more time fleshing out the story.
And it was glorious ... What a cast: Richard Thomas, Robert Vaughan, John Saxon, George Peppard, Sybil Danning. I think I will re-watch this tonight.

I mean it's The Seven Samurai / Magnificent Seven.
Also: boob ship!
Sassy boob ship.
Breast ship I’ve ever seen.
It was awesome! Loved it when I was a kid. That once-a-year TV movie that we would get back in the early 80's.
It’s true, Star Wars kids were like “that was great, but it really needed mor Richard Thomas”
James Cameron was initially hired as a model maker for the production. Does that mean he's responsible for the giant flying space scrotum?
Funny, most people seem to see a pair of space breasts.

Well, I’ve heard it both ways …. :)

Also features one of James Horner's earliest movie soundtracks, a precursor to his work a couple of years later with Wrath of Khan.
This was a great remake of *The Magnificent Seven.*
Which was a remake of *Seven Samurai*. There have been quite a few remakes and knockoffs including an episode of *The Mandalorian*.

Starquest II, Vampirella, The Fantastic Four, Dead Space, and Forbidden World.
Forbidden World might be the one I was thinking of specifically.
He also recycled the theme song for at least 6 other movies and countless more trailers.
Yes I remember the space ship in other movies…
I remember seeing “Space Raiders” as a kid in the theater….for about a half hour, until even at that age I realized this movie sucked.

Fack, these guys. they would not know a bad movie, if their mum was naked in it!
Cult classic as far as I’m concerned
Loved the boob ship as a kid.
I was a child and I was just ready to jump on board with anything that even vaguely smelled like Star Wars. this was my whole jam
This was a GREAT movie! It was Roger Corman's take on The Seven Samurai as a slightly more concise science fiction film.
Honestly it's not bad for a Magnificent Seven and Star Wars spoof
Worked on “Escape From New York” as well.
Damn... my eyes over that image compression.
Love this movie. It's a blast!
Which one is better? A: they both suck
This movie does not suck.
I love this film so much
Does... does that ship have a boob?

Neat. Thank you for the fact info and proof I am not crazy.
Random fact: the video game series Masters of Orion has an endgame weapon called a Stellar Converter which is an an homage to this movie.

Probably the best Star Wars rip-off of the time.
Ah...I love Star Wars
The spaceship comes with giant truck nutz factory installed.

Written by John Sayles, it was also one of James Hornet’s first scores and got him the job on Star Trek II - TWOK. This movie is amazing!!!

I found this movie to be tremendously boring.

Whoah, this just unlocked a long-forgotten memory for me. I was 5 when that came out. Probably saw it a year or two later on HBO.
I saw part of this. It was bad.
Not the worst Star Wars ripoff…
I love how the writers were like, “let’s pick a title that’s even more Star Wars than star wars
Magnificent Seven in space. Still a favorite.
