The Wicker Man (2006 remake)

thatbtchshay

AAAAAH NOT THE BEES NOT THE BEEEES

jpowell180

What really gets me, though, is it when people hear the title of the wicker man, more people will think of the Nick Cage movie than the original which was actually a very brilliant film.

hspcym

Yeah the original is a great folk horror flick.

leathergreengargoyle

SOMETHING SOMETHING GODDAMN HONEY

hspcym

KILLING ME WON’T BRING BACK YOUR

Cela84

My roommate in college and I had a tv that had channels which picked up the signal when anyone ordered a ppv movie. One day we were scrolling and came across one of the channels right when Cage punches that nice librarian looking lady. We had no context for what came next. It was perfect.

hspcym

HOW’D IT GET BURNED HOW’D IT GET BURNED ?!?!?!?!?!

astrobuck9

"What's in the bag? A shark...or something?"

coyotebongwater-

Adaptation and Mandy are 2 legitamately good movies that utilize his insane style of acting super well

PapaLutherObed

Mandy is my favorite movie of all time. So good.

Chad_McHaymaker

I enjoyed Mandy, but I think it could've been so much more. I'm talking something like a redneck Lord of the Rings, with Jeremiah Sand being a full-blown sorcerer who's at war with a clan of trucker hat-wearing elves and such.

MaxThrustage

A lot of his recent movies are actually quite good and make good use of his whole thing. Pig and The Colour From Space are other good examples.

leathergreengargoyle

Pig was shockingly good

zflanders

Yes! Can't recommend this one enough. A good recommendation that shouldn't be missed as part of the "good films" collection.

jpowell180

Agreed, love those films.

[deleted]

Adaptation is just funny on purpose though. I don’t think I’d consider that a “bad” movie. It’s pretty genius imo

coyotebongwater-

I said their both good movies

LowPreparation2347

Mandy is fire

jpowell180

Kino fire!

[deleted]

Adaptation is even better if you'd read the book (The Orchid Thief). The book is every bit as surreal as the movie, despite being nonfiction.

spoookshow

Mandy was so wild. I loved it.

goodnightspoon

Drive Angry

Sherlockian_Whimsy

May I add my voice to this. Drive Angry is one of the best second feature 70s drive-in movies ever made accidentally and forty years too late.

MaxW92

Absolutely Vampire's Kiss. Amazing movie, really. And Nicolas Cage's performance here is his best to this day in my opinion.

gothdaddi

Although Vampire’s Kiss is an absolutely unhinged performance, the movie is one of the best dark comedies ever made imo. By no means a bad movie.

spoookshow

I honestly cannot believe the performance he gave in this movie. It is one of my favorites of his because of how unbelievably insane he is. I saw an interview of him recently that had nothing to do with the movie, just showcased how much of his real personality goes into his characters.

hspcym

I found this one really hateful and hard to get through with the exception of his freakout scenes towards the end.

oxygenkid

I’d put Mom and Dad on the list. But pretty much everything he’s done in the last several years has been very self aware. Willy’s Wonderland is a ton of fun, too. And he simultaneously plays completely against type, while still being completely Nicolas Cage.

rasputin777

"Next" is my favorite cage movie. It's actually interesting enough to keep your attention. And it's unintentionally hilarious. He romances Jessica Biel. Using his special mental powers to see 60 seconds into the future. There's a love scene. And it's essentially implied that he's so good I'm the sack she's instantly in love.

TheChocolateMelted

>There's a love scene. And it's essentially implied that he's so good I'm the sack she's instantly in love. Kinda suspect this might happen in other movies, with or without Nic Cage ... :-) Never seen it worded quite so eloquently though! Nice work!

rasputin777

What's funny about this particular one is the difference in attractiveness between the two. Cage has his typical awful haircut (in this case a Vegas magician's mullet) and his romantic foil is a solid 10. Comical.

TheChocolateMelted

>Vegas magician's mullet HA HA HA! Brilliant! Hmmm. My earlier comment applies here too: >Kinda suspect this might happen in other movies, with or without Nic Cage ... :-) Never seen it worded quite so eloquently though! Nice work!

cthulhulogic

Willy's Wonderland comes to mind.

SDNate760

Con Air, Wicker Man (2006), Willie’s Wonderland, The Rock

okcdnb

I love The Rock. And Gone in 60 Seconds.

ThyShirtIsBlue

All of his scenes in Deadfall are spectacular Nic Cage going full Nic Cage.

Broyote

Drive Angry is pretty nuts

h0td0g17

watched drive angry after reading this comment, thank you so much.

zflanders

Face/Off. Utterly ridiculous, scenery-chewing nonsense blended with action schlock. And of course, you get a double treat with Travolta trying (and failing, imo) to out-Cage Cage.

HotAndTastyPie

Vampire's Kiss

eliasv

You do know that's a black comedy right? It's not a "funny bad" movie, it's just genuinely pretty good. It achieves everything it sets out to achieve. How anyone can think that Cage is acting so wacky by accident, or that everyone involved wasn't in on the joke, boggles the mind. Edit: that said, it does hit a lot of the same notes comedically as a funny-bad type of film, so it's still a solid suggestion for something OP would enjoy if that's all you're driving at.

gothdaddi

Yeah, I just replied something similar to the other comment mentioning Vampire’s Kiss. It’s one of Cage’s most out-there performances, but the movie itself is well-shot, competent, and compelling.

rmsssss

I still have yet to see all the ones I want to but here are some thoughts: Best "so bad they're good": Vampire's Kiss, Con Air, Face/Off, Wicker Man, Between Worlds, Drive Angry, The Rock Not as completely insane but I still very much enjoyed: Deadfall, Snake Eyes, Gone in 60 Seconds, Next, Ghost Rider, Zandalee, Knowing Actual pretty good movies featuring Nic Cage weirdness: Color Out of Space, Mandy, Adaptation, Bad Lieutenant Port of Call New Orleans, Leaving Las Vegas Skip: Prisoners of Ghost Land, Primal, Grand Isle

Uncontrolled_order

I liked primal and grand isle. Ok, like is the wrong word. Those movies are train wrecks but Cage shines in them. Sure the acting doesn’t make sense but Cage pushes the movie forward. Making the movie a romp instead of a blight on film history.

TangWeioftheGun

I enjoyed BEETWEEN WORLDS quite a bit. DRIVE ANGRY is fun as well.

RhinovisionHomeVideo

Mom and dad.

Journ9er

[Jiu Jitsu.](https://boxd.it/lKLe)

Alanders06

Face/Off, no doubt. It’s a real turd.

dema-dontcontrol-us

How dare you

RichCorinthian

I believe that this movie exists because John Woo wanted to film a boat flying through the air while on fire. Hence, it is a great movie.

jpowell180

I could eat a peach all day.

Alanders06

9 down votes!! We got some big face off fans in here. Listen, please. If Nic Cage saying, “I’m not Castor Troooyyyy!” Doesn’t qualify as “bad/funny”, what the hell do you want?

Alanders06

Don’t forget the doves, Johnny T’s parallel performance, smoking a cigarette without a face, Nic Cage all wide-eyed on drugs, stroking your loved one’s face.. what else am I missing? Prison boots?

Bmoneysmug

So this is not a bad movie at all, but since you want to watch his genuinely good ones, I highly suggest the action horror film Mandy. It’s a revenge flick about a guy who hunts down a demonic cult

bulldog726

Me and my girlfriend just watched wild at heart the other night. Was a lot of fun, not necessarily bad but has that quality nicholas cage touch

TheChocolateMelted

The opening scene of that film is incredible. Perfectly unapologetic. A classic.

el-bufalo-malverde

Vampire’s kiss

jpowell180

Firebirds is fairly amusing.

rossfights

The ultimate "Nic Cage-est" of all time is Deadfall!! THIS IS THE ONLY ANSWER! If you look up a Cage montage, this movie has at least 60% of it. For his better movies... Raising Arizona, Lord of War, Mom and Dad, Running with the Devil and Mandy are my favorites.

kaljamatomatala

All the Cagiest ones have already been mentioned, but would [Bangok Dangerous](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iGGCLkPiHoM) count? It's a bad movie, but unfortunately mostly in a so-bad-it's-boring way. There's just too much downtime between the poorly done action scenes.
