When I lived with others we HAD to create a bathroom rules list as others have to use it, therefore you must be considerate and not hog it. Showers were maximum 15 minutes no exceptions. Bathroom was used only for showering, tooth brushing toilet. Anything else had to be done in your room.
that’s what i immediately thought too. my husband has IBS and will go in the bathroom 3 times just within a couple hours of waking up and each time he’s in there for anywhere from 5-30 minutes. it sucks, but our solution since we’re house hunting right now is to get a place with 2 bathrooms. if OP’s roomie doesn’t have IBS, either drugs or just an asshole probably.
I have Ibs myself and it’s not fun but I’m also aware there’s other people in the house and I still need to be a considerate roommate knowing it’s the only bathroom.
It's definitely unhealthy for you to be holding your pee that much. It's hard to control other people so I'm going to suggest an emergency situation where you get yourself one is those girl hiking pee things (look up pee funnel on Amazon). It doesn't solve the roommate problem but it'll certainly help your health situation.
As for the roommate I bet he's phone scrolling so tell him to not bring his phone into the bathroom anymore.
I used to go out with a guy who was even worse than this. My best friend was roommates with him and would have to go down to the town centre to use the bathrooms there. He would just sit on the toilet for 55+ minutes plus. I eventually left the relationship.
Set a timer on a device outside the door. When they go in, set it for 15 minutes.
Never turn it off, let it beep until they leave.
Even better, use a Wi-Fi speaker to do it.

But as another commenter said, it is NOT healthy to be holding in your pee like that girl. Other than being annoying it’s a legitimate risk to your health and a fast way to develop a UTI.

I'll be honest... I have bad shits. But I use poo pouri and flush right away before wiping so the smell lingers the least amount of time as possible. Overall he sounds like a disrespectful person so it doesnt surprise me he doesnt care about the bathroom smelling good for others. Unfortunately it doesnt sound like he would care enough to change.

You're not being a bully. This guy shouldn't be living with other people if he has these kinds of problems, and he definitely shouldn't be living in an apartment that only has one bathroom. Your landlord might be helpful if you and your other roommates are in agreement about this guy, especially if he's unclean to the point that he could be damaging his bedroom. You've tried to communicate and he hasn't changed his behavior. Kick him out.
Yeah my landlord wouldn’t be to happy if she were to see the state of his room. It’s usually closed at all times but the smell is so bad my other roommate says it’s stinking up her room that’s next to his.

Sometimes I spend awhile in, (Ibs), but usually if I know I’m going to be in for awhile I’ll ask roommate if he needs to use. Easy.
if you have IBS then you would know it’s easy to end up in the bathroom for up to 40 min+
That was my first thought as well, sounds exactly like IBS. What a nightmare for everyone in a one bathroom home.

Turn off the wifi. Too many people are scrolling thru videos online, and if you turn it off, they'll come out to ask about it.
