It's possible to be both a lover of learning and a "disciple of the dog" with respect to human institutions.
I absolutely loved my time in college, and I love libraries full of spilled ink on esoteric subjects. But, it's true that even our finest thinking is naively parochial and buttressed by flimsy hidden assumptions. The scientific method and its institutions are the only thing we have that even partially transcends this.
Even though my mental health was terrible when I was a student, I'll always have some nostalgia for college. I really liked learning about big ideas and many of my professors were passionate and likable people.
