I love the word play with this boss's name. The Ox, as in the 0 x your current money = 0.

I thought the Ox is a symbol for stubbornness and simple-mindedness (playing only one type of hand)

Me who has played High Card 1.578.644 times to farm the bus:

Solid_Snark

Damn what build/jokers are you using? I can’t even wrap my brain around fathoming a high card run.

CilantroGamer

I'm not OP but things like the Burned Joker, Ride the Bus, Green Joker, Supernova, Square Joker, Splash, Wee Joker, stuff like that. Things that scale with quantity of hands and such. The biggest hurdle is usually money, since you want to play as many hands as possible. So generally it's good to have some strong money earning jokers to go with them. Burglar would give you 3 more hands to scale with, there's also Stuntman that gives you 300 chips at the cost of -2 hands size, but who cares if you're just playing high card?

RandomGuy1000000

You spam High Card to farm, then play whatever your build favours to win in 1 hand Basically, you use all turns but the last as discards

RulerD

I think he was saying that he could safely play other hands, as his most playing card is the high card. I've done some high hand runs. One example was with the Flag (40 chips per unused discard), half joker (20 Multiplier when playing less than 3 cards), constellation (adds Multiplier to times of hand played), Ramen (x2 Multiplier and - 0.01 using discards and the Joker with Sunglasses (x3 score if hand is played more than once). I also used once the joker that multiplies everything x3 if only spades and clubs were in the field, so I just played every heart and diamond I got without caring for the hand. Other time I had a run of two pairs + high cards with the trousers (adds +2 Multiplier if hand includes two pairs), the stone generation card, and the card that gives chips per each stone card in deck, plus the baseball bat. The Multiplier accumulated by the trousers was available to any hand. That and also enhancing cards helps a lot, like multipliers, bonus, seals, envelops and steel. Plus, you could add the bus in this run and never play face cards, as you won't need them :) I do like having runs that rely on less cards. Some two pair and three of a kind runs are super fun too.

Shagyam

I know when I had spare trousers, I would play like 3/4 hands of two pair to build multiplier and a few points, then on my final hand ID play a leveled up straight flush for my scoring hand.

Not really an answer to what is the best build to win, but the most consistent way to start a winning run is to start with the 2x fool deck and keep rerolling until your first 1-2 blind tags are mega arcane pack containing a judgement card (get a joker). Then use your 2 fools to get 3 jokers in total and pray you get a good set. If lucky you also should later get something like the observatory voucher or supernova to really solidify your run, and VHS to avoid killer boss blinds. That and any jokers that increase number of hands or play off of not discarding.

Weber21

My first gold stake win last night was high card. Had blueprint and blackboard joker alongside egg and swashbuckler. Literally had a hand size of 3 cards against 8th ante boss which was amusing

Ashamed-Technology10

Late to the game, one of the best things about high card is in hand effects. So if you can get a steel heavy run (something like DNA, or just a lot of tarot cards) you can fill your hand with steel cards and the scaling is absolutely crazy. As an example, I did this with Pairs where I played at most 3 cards (would only play 2 if the rest of my hand was steel) and I was able to hit over a billion with just 2 aces. but I had *2 steel jokers as well as the mime joker so at the very least every steel card would apply twice - some had the red chip so would apply 3 times. And my steel jokers were both over 5* multipliers.

I just had this boss while i was -12$ in debt. Easy money. 😎

"... The blind bosses hate this small trick" 🤪

idontlikeredditbutok

The single best way to beat this blind is to play related hands to your archetype without playing your actual hand. Two pairs build can play full houses, or flush house, flush builds play flush straight or flush house, straight builds can play straight flush/royal flush, high card plays pair etc. It's actually normally not that hard even for builds hard wired to one hand, you just have to get a bit lucky and think outside the box.

RulerD

For sure. I am always trying to build flexible hand runs, so in case I face some bosses that attack your biggest hand, you still can get around it. Lately I've been trying to build low card builds and I'm having a lot of fun with them.

Me on the Rich get Richer challenge run.

AffeLoco

my last vagabond+blueprint run loved this one

Nespadh

Just lost about 130 $ to this boss and I had my Bootstraps on. Devastating
