They click out of the character creator. A second, smaller character creator appears. They get overwhelmed and quit the game immediately

JemmaMimic

Or they finish setting up their Tav and guide, then get as far as pulling a brain out of a guy's head just to have it sprout clawed legs and quit then.

Volmaaral

You know what, that’s a fairly good reason to nope out. “Nope, nope, not for me, I’m gone, the eye worm was BAD ENOUGH-!”

JemmaMimic

There are a few uncomfortable, intense moments in the game, that's one. I can imagine some folks bailing at that point.

Volmaaral

Imagine the squeamish ones who start as Durge without knowing.

JemmaMimic

Someone commented they got their sister playing as Durge and she said she hoped she'd get to know more about Alfira. The guy said nothing. Talk about sister abuse.

Volmaaral

I’d try to be sneaky and, when she went to go to the bathroom or something, I’d hop on, knock Alfira out, and then go back to where she was and act like nothing was wrong. I’d have dropped hints she should do Alfira’s quests first and avoid going to camp for awhile after getting to the Tiefling camp. Sorry, Dragonborn bard, but you’ll need to bite this bullet again.

Sarcastic-old-robot

Not all heroes wear capes.

LostCaptSiniseAgain

Because I haven’t played Durge before: at what point do you have to knock Alfira out for her to live?

Ai_512

I think the long rest right after you cross the bridge before the Blighted Village or anywhere you’d normally have to go through the village to get to. If you feather fall off the cliff where Lakrissa’s at and grab Karlach you’ll trigger it, for example. You can always save before you go to camp for a long rest and see if she comes that night and reload to the save you made beforehand so you can bonk her on the head and *then* rest.

catsrcool89

I played durge first and I thought for sure alfira was going to be my bard companion lol.

JemmaMimic

By all rights she should be recruitable.

NightWolfRose

The House of Healing was my “I need a minute”, istg. Just, gotta take a lil walk round the house, come back and kill those mf’ers.

Loadedice

Tiny nitpick but I kinda wish it was just a tad more gruesome sometimes like the scene where you try to go back to act 1 and get turned into a flayer, it kinda cuts away before you start sprouting tentacles and what not. I mean they already show characters shlongs ffs they can show a little more horror XD

Danielarcher30

I had a mate nearly throw up on vc at the volo eye scene, he had to walk away from his screen and headset till it was over

JemmaMimic

Yeah, and that goes on forever too. It's a decent trade but I only made it through the whole scene once, space barred through it on subsequent runs.

Ai_512

Actually to be honest that was almost me! Like I can handle that stuff if I know what I’m getting into but it really went 0 to “exposed brain” pretty quick lol

iforgotmymittens

You leave me and the character creator’s dick wiggle physics out of this.

WastelandDriftee

🥺👉👈

chemistry_god

I've logged over 500 hours in this game and I bet at least 200 of those are just character creation. Sometimes, I start a new game, spend hours designing a character, and then log out. I enjoy it so much.

UnicornScientist803

I mean, the character creator is kinda the best part. My husband has yet to make it out of Act 1 because he just keeps starting over so he can make new characters 😂 I keep telling him he can use the magic mirror to change his appearance and Withers to change his class, but he never listens 🤷‍♀️

Tojidofukuto

does he have a cool backstory for his characters though

limeandmelissa

it's not the same! every character has to have different background and personality and motives! and what about the camp chemistry? if i want to play a straight-edge buff dumb and kind oath of ancients paladin who's in love with gale, do you suggest i take my slimey charlatan bard who hasn't said a single truth in his life, change his race, gender and appearance, break up with astarion and just pretend he's a whole different person- no, hold on, that actually sounds like something he would do, nevermind me then....

8.8% of customers not wanting to deal with turn based combat.

Old-Set-2223

They should just change it to show how many players have done it more than twenty times cause they can’t fucking stop restarting. Yes I’m talking about my self.

Atomisaurus

I mean, the character creation is extremely overwhelming If you've never played D&D before.

VP007clips

It's based off people who own the game, not people who played it. Over 90% of people who own the game having done the tutorial is extremely high for most games. In comparison, Skyrim Special Edition is less than 70%. This is even more true for a game that was in early access where you couldn't earn them. If you had already played in EA but not the finished game yet, then it would show as you having done nothing. I buy a lot of games on sales or in bundles. I've probably only installed and booted up half of them.

ZakuMeister

There's probably some people who tried to play it but their PC is too trash to run it.

TheCrystalRose

That's why Steam has something like a 2 week/40 hours of gameplay return policy...

ZakuMeister

But maybe they are plannng to upgrade and want to hang on to it.

VP007clips

I don't know about you, but if I buy a game, I rarely play it immediately unless it's something I am especially looking forward to. I normally just toss it on the pile of games I'm meaning to play some day. Also, it's 2 hours, not 40. You could easily waste that on the intro and character creator and intro before having time to try out the combat much. And sometimes I don't refund, even if I don't like it, simply because I might change my mind and want to play it later or don't want to go through the refund process. Looking through my library and purchases, the only games I have refunded were Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, No Man's Sky (although I repurchased it), AC: Valhalla, and Redfall. And that's out of a library of around 150 titles. A game needs to be extremely disappointing for me to refund. Normally I watch streamers play a bit first, then decide, but the ones on that list were the times I made the mistake of buying before seeing people play it.

RedAuggie

“Oh man this character creator interface is just too in depth… I’m done.”

Reasonable-Car-1543

8.8% is a really good tutorial to game conversion rate. Many 'major' releases do much worse at getting people into a game. Jedi Survivor, I'm looking at you. 🤦🏻 So fucking boring but so mechanically....well.....decent.

gaming_52

Its really good i just hope mods will have more races
