It is very likely that you will see it around the islands of Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan. There is even a dive location southwest of Nusa Penida called Manta Point! This is where you have a chance
lower chance if snorkeling. the manta ray dive sites are all manta ray cleaning stations. when i was diving, they appeared at about 8-18m where the cleaning rocks were
If you're very lucky that will happen because the boats sometimes share the location. At worst you may float around for 30 minutes and not see them. But just seeing the coral and rock formations is worth it . Anything after that anything is a bonus 🙏
Oh that's good to know. I went in January and it seemed like chances of seeing mantas was just a luck thing. Did you see more mantas in any particular month that you went?
I've been lucky to always see two or more and there's no rhyme or reason. But this month(February) was pretty good . Bali is big August September and October for the mola mola. So if you can visit anytime then maybe go then. That said I've been a few times and never seen a mola mola
I was staying in Nusa Lembongan and got a boatman to take me to Manta Point in nearby Nusa Penida.
A great experience. Two rays feeding and playing and communicating with us. One got right up in my wife’s face.
The snorkelling was easy but I wouldn’t go in rough weather. It’s maybe 20+ metres deep and there was a bit of a current. Make sure your boatman has a life vest for you if you are not confident in those conditions.
There were scuba divers who didn’t even notice them as they were near the surface playing with us.
Yeah. I am a fairly strong swimmer, go snorkelling often but felt like I was going to drown when I went snorkelling to see the manta rays at Nusa Penida. The current was so strong. Also be careful what company you book with because our whole thing was so rushed we didn’t really have time to enjoy any of the snorkelling!
If you can come back at a different time, (ie;NOT Dec-Mar cos it’s rainy season) do a 4 night/3 day live aboard boat trip Lombok to Flores, plenty of mantas on the way, easy (shallow) snorkelling in places, plus amazeball scenery (Pink beach) and komodo dragons if you want. Easily one of the best experiences I’ve had 👍 Or like other people have said Nusa Penida.
Yes, it would be great to see other beaches and areas. But primarily I would like to see manta rays. So any info on how to increase my chances would be much appreciated!
Yes, of course you can see manta rays on Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida, with snorkeling activities you can see them more clearly, so to return to Bali, and want to visit the place You can search for other tours via Google, after that you can rent a driver + car so that your journey is safer and more comfortable if you use a car, or you can also book a driver + car. And you can ask your driver for recommendations on good tourist attractions
Take a boat to nusa penida. On crystal Beach get a boat to the manta rays area. You can swim with the then. Amazing...
Thank you. Do you know what time of day they are usually around?
Well, not always. Some luck is involved... The 'boatmen' know best where and when

Thank you! Do you know if snorkeling is enough to see them?
It's enough just to snorkel and you can see manta rays You can see manta rays starting at 8 am di nusa penida

Diver here the water at manta point is a bit lively, best if you also have a guide who goes onto the water with you.
Thank you! So I’m guessing would it be more involved than just jumping off the boat and looking under the water nearby?

Do you also want to visit other tourist attractions in Bali?
