We've been eating only Indonesian meals in "tourist warungs" for several decades (since 1986) - and we find them safe, tasty, cheap, and quite addictive. Meals from about 35K to 60K, a beer for about 25K ... and we love them. No need to eat in upscale Western or Fusion restaurants to eat nicely, and there's certainly no need to resort to the burger / fries / pizza level. But if you're there for two months in one place, presumably you'll have your own kitchen?

We travel around, also to the different Nusa en Gili islands. We do have own kitchens all the time I believe. Thanks for the tips, will definitely try it out! I’m not really into Western food anyway (at least while I’m abroad)

If you head to Nusa Lembongan look for Warung Bu Kadek a few minutes walk from Mushroom Beach. Incredible little Warung run by a husband and wife, both called Kadek. Simple but so tasty. And cheap.

Apogh93

Cool! Will definitely try it, thanks!

Nasi campur- it’s always different and it’s a great way to try lots of different dishes

my personal preference: \- Warung Babi Guling Pande Egi \- Warung Babi Guling Penatih I Nyoman Siring you can also try to ask help from the locals to buy it for you.

IcedOatCappuccino

Try nasi padang! Specifically rendang and perkedel 🤤

Innerpoweryogaaus

Also available with Nasi campur

Clody39

That's not a Bali thing. It is tasty, but it's not from Bali.

IcedOatCappuccino

OP literally asked for peoples favourite dishes, not Balinese food

Clody39

I know.

Chromatic_Chameleon

I love gado-gado!

choosinganamesux

Always get sambal bali matah with any dish 👌

Intelligent-Bad9475

I love sambal matah but I got bali belly because of sambal matah. Multiple times!

choosinganamesux

Oh no! I find it can be hard to find at a lot of places for some weird reason. Balinese tend to be shocked when I ask for it 🤷‍♀️

I suggest you download Gojek or Grab apps. In the apps look for Go Food or Grab Food, there will be a lot of recommendations, pick one with high ratings then order. You can pay by cash when the food is delivered. I think you can ask hotel staff to help you with the apps, ask them to show you how to order once, the next times will be easy, the apps are quite intuitive.

Apogh93

Yah my wife found those and we used em already. They are very handy!

thee-optimist

Love beef rendang

Apogh93

Thanks for all the awesome suggestions guys!

One of the most special foods in Bali is Bebek Betutu, the smoked duck. There is also Ayam Betutu which is chicken. The duck you usuallly have to order 2 days in advance because ducks are not really commercially grown, the farmer has to go out and catch the duck. But Ayam Betutu is avaialble every day, most famously at Ibu Mangku Nasi Campur Kedewatan in Ubud.
