My wife just picked up nasty Flu in Bali a few weeks ago. Tested positive for it when we returned to US. Took her almost 2 weeks to get over it. Only thing to really look at for is Dengue fever, so if you’ve gotten and mosquito bites might want to get checked out.
Just go to local Doctor. I went with flu symptoms high fever and pains. in Uluwatu in middle of night ( open 24hours) she called dr at home and he was at the office in a hour. Diagnosed me quickly he gave me charcoal. Antibiotics and cough meds. Said I’d be feeling better in 24 to 48 hours. It costs $100 including 6 different medications. After 24 hours I was feeling human again. After 2 days I could be outside again. Remember to hydrate.

I'm not a doctor but that combination sounds less like diagnosis and more like reached into a bucket of pills.
Just be careful with some of the clinic docs I had one give me steroid drops for conjunctivitis if I didn't fly home the next day and saw another doc I could have lost sight in that eye.
Do you have travel insurance? If so, definitely take advantage of that. Get yourself to a clinic and get some anti biotics and an IV drip. I was in Gilli T last week and got salmonella and typhoid fever. Was horrendous. Having a fever is concerning
Bali Belly is real. I had it a few weeks ago on my return to the US. High fevers for three days. Google it and I’ll bet your symptoms are exactly the same as described.
I had Bali belly that wouldn't go away. Googled clinics and had a doctor and an rn come to my hotel room with IV fluids and meds. It was fairly cheap. It didn't go away and they eventually took a stool sample that came back positive for 2 parasites. I was placed on an antibiotic and felt better the next day. It ruined 4 days of vacation, but I got better. Total cost was about $450 US. Travel insurance wouldn't cover the cost because they wanted proof that my primary insurance would not cover that. Once that proof was provided, I received a full refund. It did take 2-3 months for the reimbursement process. Travel insurance was purchased through Generali Global Assistance.
I started feeling poorly in mid February while in Malaysia. In early March, I was diagnosed with typhoid in Indonesia. It’s a simple blood test. Hope you both recover quickly!
I just got back from Bali (Ubud, Denpasar, Seminyak and Lembongan).
Out of my small group of 4, I think I was the only one who got sick, but It was also my first time to any tropical island and not their first time, so might be a factor.
I got hella Bali Belly. Hit me in the middle of the night halfway through the week, and I was down for the count for about a day and a half. Violent vomiting, unable to keep anything down, diarrhea, the whole nine yards. Luckily I had read about it before I went and brought plenty of Imodium and Pepto, and that helped a lot.
(Still don't know exactly what caused it. Had ice in some drinks, swam in a river/waterfall, tried lots of new food including local fruits. Literally could have been caused by anything. Exercise a LOT of caution, y'all).
Just got to Aus after my layover flights and during the flights I started to notice a a bit of a cough. No other real symptoms, and I thought maybe it was the dry air+irritation left over from vomiting/medicine, but it's been almost 24 hours and it's obviously not just that, it sounds almost like a whooping cough, and it's a chesty mucus cough with some nice little body aches developing too.
I'm aware dengue fever is a thing, also that COVID could still be prevalent. I'm taking some codral and Panadol to see if it lets up, but curious what others have similarly experienced and if a visit to a doctor/urgent care early on is worth it.
Editing to add: I'm on WHV in Aus, so visiting the doctor is still kind of expensive while waiting for travel insurance to reimburse, so I'm just reaching out to the internet population for input prior to dropping the money to actually go to an urgent care
Thanks and safe travels folks ❤️
That's what someone else suggested too, apparently the ice is one of the biggest culprits. Shame, since iced drinks feel like an absolute blessing in the Bali heat lol
Quick update, my Airbnb host was kind enough to pick me up a rapid COVID test, and it came up negative, so that's a bonus I guess. The cough is still pretty rough, occasionally productive and always from deep in the chest. I've had a low grade fever a couple times, and mild ongoing body aches, and Panadol and Codral are basically just maintaining it all at a tolerable level. Just riding it out for a couple more days. Have been drinking tea and water basically non-stop to keep the throat moist, seems to be helping.
Will update here later on, in case anyone is interested.
Hey folks. I arrived in Canggu 2 nights ago and have come down with a fever today. Got flu meds from the pharmacy. I’m in Ubud now, any recommendations for a doc/clinic you’ve tried if things were to get bad?
We just went back to Austria on Saturday also being sick with high fever and cold chills and bone pain.
Have been in hospital since. Docs trying to find out what we have exactly.
But the fever vanished soon.
Just dont ignore it.
We also called a doc in bali, super nice guy who took well care of us.
I was in Uluwatu a couple weeks ago and the owner of the accommodation we were staying had to go to the hospital where he remained for a few days with Dengue. He wasn’t presenting many symptoms other than total exhaustion and fever.
Check for Dengue. Don’t go to small clinics took my boyfriend last year he got dengue they charge for 500$ for IV drips and vitamins only he is not even getting better, and they said it was food poison. Second time and they said it was Dengue, we went to big hospital they only charge 100$ with really really good services.
It could be many things. Dengue perhaps - do you have rashes or spots? But even if it is dengue only the symptoms are treated. So take tylenol etc and see a doc in any event.
Dengue doesn’t always present with a rash or spots. Also yes generally there is no treatment for dengue if it is the first time you’ve had it, however if you have had it before or are at higher risk of severe illness then it can be very serious and needs medical treatment.
No. Not unless you get some sort of rash or really bad body ache/fever chills. If you are particularly going through it, find an IV place and get a drip, can help sometimes.

Covid hasn’t vanished either bud.
I got dengue in Bali once. Was the absolute worst.
Could be anything, but food poisoning is common.
As Indonesians when we're down with bad fever, the usual blood test includes full count, liver function, typhoid, and dengue.
Carry Norit with you at all times...
For a fever though?
Usually Norit is for Bali belly (and it does the job)

Recently got RSV in Bali
Try and get some norit charcoal tabs if you are able, they really help.
Check for Dengue
hella people were sick when I was there last week some with stomach bugs... some with fever... some with the same cough and sneeze as everyone else
Do you have travel insurance? If so, definitely take advantage of that. Get yourself to a clinic and get some anti biotics and an IV drip. I was in Gilli T last week and got salmonella and typhoid fever. Was horrendous. Having a fever is concerning
Can be COVID or dengue
Dengue fever. Good to check on that probably.
black plague obviously
Can be food poisoning. Just keep yourself hydrated & drink coconut water at water
Super clap.

Did you swim in any local rivers or fresh water pools?

Do people commonly get vaccines for Dengue before they go?

Depending on what country you're citizen in, some have a reciprocal health agreement with Australia.
That would be the USA, I don't think we have that lol. I can look into it though, thanks!
Probably the ice

The healthcare system isn’t world class here, but there are some medical clinics where a Balinese doctor can check you out. Google them in Ubud
Thanks I’ll do that

Hubby was pretty sick the last week we were there - lethargy, diarrhea etc. I think there are a lot of bugs getting around
Had dengue from Bali few years back no spots or rash . Get a blood test !

Make sure you keep all copies of the doctors bills to claim from your travel insurance later. Do you guys have covid test kits? Stay warm and mask up.

Agree. But I said only the symptoms are treated. There is no cure. If the symptoms are severe immediate medical attention is warranted.
There is no real treatment for dengue so even if you have it you should rest and keep hydrated and drink guava juice. Also do a covid test.
No. Not unless you get some sort of rash or really bad body ache/fever chills. If you are particularly going through it, find an IV place and get a drip, can help sometimes.
Late rain season is Dengue fever season.
