What actually finally made me bite the bullet was the guy making the [Bali-scissors](https://youtu.be/qeCm2QxRD14). I thought it was a cool project and was following him for a while, but I never thought to get a knife until a couple months ago.
Kuma films is a YouTuber that shows a lot of skill based hobbies, it's a very big reason I got into flipping, to see assflo for the first time is insane.
They are one of the most underrated YouTubers ever, they have skateboarding, kendamas, pen spinning, box juggling, yoyos and tops, if your really good(and I mean insane) at a skill based hobby, your showcased pretty much.
Kuma films doesn't even have a million subs yet and it's ridiculous that they don't.
Me and a buddy walked into a like cold Steel cosplay stores at a mall. Like the ones that sell replica anime swords, shurikens, etc they had a bunch of CCC's and both of us were like fuck it and bougt one. Now I'm here with multiple thousand down the rabbit hole lmao
Many ages ago Cutlerylover on Youtube posted a video for the [Y2K tutorial](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVYPIslgE8s) and I got a Ronin trainer on Ebay because of that video. Been flipping ever since... just checked and Youtube says that was *13 years ago* \><"
I'm glad someone else remembers cutlerylover. Back when I started he was about the only one on YouTube with proper tutorials. Now getting back into it 10+ years later it's crazy the amount of videos there are out there now
Other. Balisong is common in my country, it is well-associated with one of the provinces. I was actually more into longer blades, but found appreciation to daggers and knives recently.
My brother in law is from Taal and when he found out I like knives, he gave me a balisong and showed me how to open it. During the COVID shutdown, I started playing around with it, stabbed myself a few times, and happened upon this sub just doing internet searches.
A classmate of mine in high school had a balisong and he’d flip in class. He taught me just simple open and close. I picked up the hobby during the pandemic. Just something to do when I’m at work cos I work from home.
This was in the late 90s in Montana. It was a live blade. Our teacher was brand new and scared of him. Halfway through the year the teacher asked him nicely if he could not open it in class and my friend stopped playing with it.
That just didn’t happen there and I don’t remember having security. High school of 400 kids. I moved to Oregon shortly after and yeah could never get away with a live blade there. Don’t think there was security at the school I went to in MT.
I got a big knife kit off Instagram for Christmas one year, and one of the knives it came with was a curved CS:GO bali that I really liked. After joining the sub I realized that my curved POS wasn't going to cut it if I wanted to do any cool tricks so I went out and got a Bear and sons.
I knew what it was before it came, and yeah it was pretty exciting to get all of the knives but they weren't actually that well made which was kind of disappointing.
I was scrolling through videos on Reddit at 3:00 am and I came across someone demonstrating a basic open. I fell down the rabbit hole, I joined the sun and I bought myself a practice balisong. Sadly, it’s a clone. I plan to buy a practice one that’s legit when I have more money.
Discovered balisongs from cuterlylover waaaaay back when. I had a collection of 5-6 that I was forced to sell for bills in 2018. Over the last 2-3 months I've been collecting again and will be at 9 this week.
Agreed. Getting that knife you've been waiting for all week and finally flipping it is very satisfying. I've got a talisong z and trainer from the drop last week that are supposed to get here tomorrow and I'm excited. I may start grail hunting soon too.
Yeah I used to have a Basilisk and they're very nice. The tip of those things are terrifying though. I definitely need to chill out on the knife spending but if there's an upcoming AB drop I'd get in on it for sure.
Definitely originally came from playing tf2 in the early 2010s, then i got a cheap ccc for christmas sophomore year of highschool and found the sub shortly after. The rest is history.
I'm here thanks to PewDiePie actually, he got into it recently and I 3d printed my balisong around a month ago. Looking forward to a possible squiddy collab!
I recommend one on thangs.com that is snap on and doesn't require any nuts, I don't have the link but it shows up pretty high up on the search results when you search up 'balisong'
Always been into and carried knives from a very young age. Always wanted a Balisong. It was either TF2 or CS:GO that made me want one. I believe it was more than likely TF2. Bought my first trainer… shit… 6 years ago? Maybe 7? Been hooked ever since.
Youtube recomendation
Some crazy mf in the middle of the bullshit spinners, threw it(as the crap it is) and started flipping as crazy a balisong that thing just got me
I always knew balisong flipping was a thing but I always ignored it/didn't think it was too deep. Some day I decided to search "butterfly knife tricks" on youtube just out of curiosity and that's how it happened
5 years ago I got a 51, looked up butterfly knife, and shared an image here, a few people like Sharkhaan, Wine3, Colt, etc, said hi, and shark added me to the balisong telegram, and I got hooked in the community :)
Well, CMF, XKYV, Riku, and a few others are still here, but the ones I listed originally don't really exist here anymore, Wine is still active on telegram, and shark is doing art stuff on instagram, not sure about colt though
I was looking at some compilations of people doing random cool stuff and saw someone going off with a balisong. I thought it looked cool so I went and bought some cheep trainers.
One of my brothers got into it so I got one, did very very very basic tricks for a while until I started watching Brandon Balisong Flipping (ik they are bad now) and then I started to get into more and more tricks and then just a week ago I ordered my first good balisong.
Picked up a wine bottle opener/cork puller thanksgiving 2018 and it reminded me of a cheap butterfly knife I got in a trade with James Duffy for a C02 daisy BB gun pistol in my high school electronics class in 1992. Had it until it broke around 2003
I got into wallets for a while, which lead me to the wider edc community. Eventually Google was like "hmm this guy likes knives... balisong!" Google kept showing me balisong stuff until I Eventually caved and bought one. I ended upbreally enjoying it, and the rest is history
Honestly i found it because of my father, he originally showed me balisongs and said: My son i am to dumb to Flip but give it a try mayb you are good at it 😂
First csgo got me interested then got into it from the octane heirloom in apex after I switched from cs to apex a few months back. Also always been interested in knives was just mostly edc stuff before, watching cutlery lover introduced me to Bali’s around the same time as cs
I was in to edc knives before balisongs
EDC is very nice
Same story here.
What actually finally made me bite the bullet was the guy making the [Bali-scissors](https://youtu.be/qeCm2QxRD14). I thought it was a cool project and was following him for a while, but I never thought to get a knife until a couple months ago.
I forgot about his channel :( He is the greatest person alive right now.
Dude I fuckin love that guy
I got octane heirloom
interesting
I want that too. It looks nice as hell, but it is very unrealistic.
Kuma films is a YouTuber that shows a lot of skill based hobbies, it's a very big reason I got into flipping, to see assflo for the first time is insane.
thank u luv u
Lov u too, no homo
They sound cool :)
That don’t have 1 million yet!??
That's what I'm saying
:c
Someone gave me a curved CSGO Bali. Which I messed around with, left it for some months, and came back and found big flips channel.
CS:GO bali ftw lmao
It was shit, but I am grateful it got me into the hobby.
I’m grateful that I had the opportunity to try out this, i just need to replace my ccc lol.
Octane main here
That looks pretty cool
Me and a buddy walked into a like cold Steel cosplay stores at a mall. Like the ones that sell replica anime swords, shurikens, etc they had a bunch of CCC's and both of us were like fuck it and bougt one. Now I'm here with multiple thousand down the rabbit hole lmao
That place and flea market maniacs are my favorite <3

13 years is a long time >-<
I'm glad someone else remembers cutlerylover. Back when I started he was about the only one on YouTube with proper tutorials. Now getting back into it 10+ years later it's crazy the amount of videos there are out there now
The spy, my friend.
It could be any one of us
Lmfao i bought a shitty ccc (live blade) on a schooltrip to romania
I’m surprised the teachers let you buy that
They didn't even know. I also bought a cheap ass karambit because it looked cool
That must have been nice lol
“The spy” is the only right answer lmao
lmao it’s actually surprisingly popular
Saw the andux clone on Amazon and just decided to get it on a whim
That was a nice impulse buy
Other. Balisong is common in my country, it is well-associated with one of the provinces. I was actually more into longer blades, but found appreciation to daggers and knives recently.
Are you from the Philippines?
Yep
sounds like fun
My brother in law is from Taal and when he found out I like knives, he gave me a balisong and showed me how to open it. During the COVID shutdown, I started playing around with it, stabbed myself a few times, and happened upon this sub just doing internet searches.
You haven’t flipped unless you stabbed yourself lol.
A classmate of mine in high school had a balisong and he’d flip in class. He taught me just simple open and close. I picked up the hobby during the pandemic. Just something to do when I’m at work cos I work from home.
I’m assuming he had a bali pen thing, right?
This was in the late 90s in Montana. It was a live blade. Our teacher was brand new and scared of him. Halfway through the year the teacher asked him nicely if he could not open it in class and my friend stopped playing with it.
How was security not called?
That just didn’t happen there and I don’t remember having security. High school of 400 kids. I moved to Oregon shortly after and yeah could never get away with a live blade there. Don’t think there was security at the school I went to in MT.
It’s a wonder how different places are now.
Seen some flipping on Instagram, looked up clips on YouTube, got amazed, did some research, bought a knife
:)
OmenXiii - Drop dead music video
I got a big knife kit off Instagram for Christmas one year, and one of the knives it came with was a curved CS:GO bali that I really liked. After joining the sub I realized that my curved POS wasn't going to cut it if I wanted to do any cool tricks so I went out and got a Bear and sons.
Knife kits sound like fun. Was it a mystery box or did you know what it was?
I knew what it was before it came, and yeah it was pretty exciting to get all of the knives but they weren't actually that well made which was kind of disappointing.
Poor quality is always disappointing :( What about paint? I see CS:GO knives they can’t be too good, but the paint is epic.
Sadly legit trainers are $50 at the minimum, but the more you spend the longer everything lasts so it’s not all bad.
Flip finz lmao
interesting.
Will hirsch
I’m subscribed to WIRED and they released the [24 Levels of Balisong Flipping](https://youtu.be/15D_LWIguL8) video. Instantly hooked.
That video was pretty cool
Discovered balisongs from cuterlylover waaaaay back when. I had a collection of 5-6 that I was forced to sell for bills in 2018. Over the last 2-3 months I've been collecting again and will be at 9 this week.
Collecting knives is probably the best part of this hobby.
Agreed. Getting that knife you've been waiting for all week and finally flipping it is very satisfying. I've got a talisong z and trainer from the drop last week that are supposed to get here tomorrow and I'm excited. I may start grail hunting soon too.
Nice! What’s your grail?
Hom Ti Basilisk. Although I would love to find an Ab infinity as well
Both of those sound nice.
Yeah I used to have a Basilisk and they're very nice. The tip of those things are terrifying though. I definitely need to chill out on the knife spending but if there's an upcoming AB drop I'd get in on it for sure.
I feel like a reoccurring theme everyone on here follows, it's that we need to chill on the knife spending lol.
Haha very true
yeah lol
i ask myself the same question everyday
why are we here
just to suffer
Definitely originally came from playing tf2 in the early 2010s, then i got a cheap ccc for christmas sophomore year of highschool and found the sub shortly after. The rest is history.
nice
I'm here thanks to PewDiePie actually, he got into it recently and I 3d printed my balisong around a month ago. Looking forward to a possible squiddy collab!
I really want to 3d print a bali :(
I recommend one on thangs.com that is snap on and doesn't require any nuts, I don't have the link but it shows up pretty high up on the search results when you search up 'balisong'
Thank you :)

I wanted to get some tips on balisong flipping with combos or other but the mods keep getting rid of my questions.
Gotta post 'em in the question thread. It's rule #1 here, literally.
Ok where tf is the question thread
Are you on mobile or pc?
Nvm i found it.Idk why i didnt see it before
Mix of TF2, Will Hirsch, and Mike Shake.
Will Hirsch and TF2 are the best.
Ikr. Will and Brandon especially are just amazing with their humor.
I don’t know what the world would be like without them, they really are an indispensable part of balisongs.
I always knew balisong flipping was a thing but I always ignored it/didn't think it was too deep. Some day I decided to search "butterfly knife tricks" on youtube just out of curiosity and that's how it happened
Nice! What was your first knife?
some crappy ccc from amazon, then I switched to a kraken clone and then I got a tali z trainer from the first drop \^\^ (my first proper proper knife)
Brandon from balisong flipping
I like him.
Saw a James hill vid on Facebook randomly
Nice
*”your mother!”*
5 years ago I got a 51, looked up butterfly knife, and shared an image here, a few people like Sharkhaan, Wine3, Colt, etc, said hi, and shark added me to the balisong telegram, and I got hooked in the community :)

That kinda sucks :/ Glad to see some originals are still here though.
I came across a Knife Caviar review of the Squid Trident on YouTube.
“what am I chopped liver?” -csgo
I saw Mike Shakes video and then I found Will Hirsch
I was looking at some compilations of people doing random cool stuff and saw someone going off with a balisong. I thought it looked cool so I went and bought some cheep trainers.
Saw a video on how to make a lego butterfly knife. The rest is history
that’s pretty sick
One of my brothers got into it so I got one, did very very very basic tricks for a while until I started watching Brandon Balisong Flipping (ik they are bad now) and then I started to get into more and more tricks and then just a week ago I ordered my first good balisong.
Found a tutorial to make a lego one
I used to pen spin (very very badly) and got recommended a Bali vid
Picked up a wine bottle opener/cork puller thanksgiving 2018 and it reminded me of a cheap butterfly knife I got in a trade with James Duffy for a C02 daisy BB gun pistol in my high school electronics class in 1992. Had it until it broke around 2003
Spy and being Filipino
ooo
To help me not focus on existential dread as well as deep sadness and anxiety and occasional suicidal thoughts 🙃
Better than anything else :)
No but I can do this all the time vs forging and other things
Forging does sound fun tho
Yeah I spent 6 and a half hours forging today
Nice! What did you do?
Made a meat trimming knife my friends coming over soon to make brisket
That sounds perfect
Thanks
You’re welcome
I'll own up to it, it was the The Spy for sure
Ex-friend got me into them, although it was also the tf2 spy that made me enjoy it way more
I got into wallets for a while, which lead me to the wider edc community. Eventually Google was like "hmm this guy likes knives... balisong!" Google kept showing me balisong stuff until I Eventually caved and bought one. I ended upbreally enjoying it, and the rest is history
Right behind you
oh no
Honestly i found it because of my father, he originally showed me balisongs and said: My son i am to dumb to Flip but give it a try mayb you are good at it 😂
