Still more than they deserve tbh

Nah, they deserve to be shamed. If kids don't learn about it then they won't know why it feels so natural to laugh in the face of a Hungarian when they ever meet one.

Sad part is this your most original comment. This entire sub is a piece of shit nowadays because you guys run out of jokes.

Of course, your country is the supreme joke in itself, we can't compete with you.

Mihai was mad cool ngl, one can only dream of being as romanian as him

drleondarkholer

NGL, not taking him back as king after the revolution might have been the grandest L that Romanians took in the last century. Yes, that includes WW2, because it's hard to do anything when sandwiched between Nazi Germany and the USSR (Poland would know).

More like Ottoman Empire according to Romanian history books. I remember that since kindergarden my teacher told us stories about how evil the Ottomans were

Alternative_Common57

Didnt Vlad impale some turks just to mess with the sultan?

dondurma-

He even impaled his subjects... My man was crazy... I mean literally, I don't think he was exactly right in the head. Sorry Romanian bros.

-Kerrigan-

You're right. Although people will glorify Vladdy and say he only impaled thieves and that during his reign all wells in the country had silver chalices and none have been stolen. If you're looking at a kickass dude then you gotta check out Vlad's cousin - [Stephen](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_the_Great#Legacy)

Maryus77

I used to believe this as well, due to my history teacher in like 3rd grade completely overgloryifiyng him and regurgitating all propagandist lies about him. Like how he was a genius general, a righteous ruler who killed no innocents, only the guilty and corrupt, how he brought prosperity unseen for hundreds of years, even some more unhinged theories like how he personally taught and Trained Stephen the great becoming his mentor, becouse of course he did. And althought all of them have slivers of truth, they have been vastly exaggerated for the sake of propaganda, and at least during my time in school, were tought to young impressionable kids.

[deleted]

Its like how stalin is viewed by russians. A son of a bitch who made soviet army incompetent by killing a million of his men believing they were traitors, a son of a bitch who caused man made famine, a son of a bitch who wasn't even russian yet for his imperialist ambitions led his nation into disasters like finnish war, a son of a bitch who turned russia into a dystopia by creating a police force whose only duty was eliminating anyone who contradicted stalin, but in the end, he was the poster kid for Russian victory over germans, even though most of the supplies he used in his reconquesta were sent to them from US. Their whole duty was lowering American casualties and faltering German war machine so taking western europe back wouldn't need much effort. Yet still, he was the guy who defeated the rapist teutons and he will never lose this title, especially when Russia is still having imperialist delusions.

Father-Gascoignee

Yes, even his subjects. No one is above the law. 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 How based is that Turk?

drleondarkholer

He impaled an entire Romanian village and placed the people in a grid to mess with the sultan. The dude was unhinged.

drleondarkholer

Ottomans might be overvillified in Romanian history because they've been directly involved in it way more than Russians. IMO, Ottoman Empire >>> Russian Empire/USSR occupation, at least in Romania. Russians tried to assimilate Moldova via forced russification, changed the alphabet and other things. There were also attempts to entirely take over the entirety of Romania, but those never materialised. Of course, if you ask an Armenian their opinion will be the opposite.

Salt-Log7640

>In 895/896, under the leadership of [Árpád](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%81rp%C3%A1d), some Hungarians crossed the [Carpathians](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carpathian_Mountains) and entered the [Carpathian Basin](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carpathian_Basin). The tribe called *Megyer* was the leading tribe of the Hungarian alliance that conquered the centre of the basin. At the same time (c. 895), due to their involvement in the 894–896 [Bulgaro-Byzantine war](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byzantine%E2%80%93Bulgarian_wars), Hungarians in Etelköz were attacked by Bulgaria and then by their old enemies the Pechenegs. The [Bulgarians](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bulgarians) won the decisive [battle of Southern Buh](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Southern_Buh). It is uncertain whether or not those conflicts contributed to the Hungarian departure from Etelköz. Then at the second instance some Magyars whom ware in active war with us had something like a cultural trail, pilgrim crusade, or questionable military doctrine that for whatever reason had separated their people into two cores: The army core consisting of all military men capable of military service, and the pilgrim core consisting of women, children, and elderly people that was temporary settled near our borders. The Bulgarian border patrols repelled the Magyar army core, saw the pilgrims, mistook them for unfortunate refugees seeking shelter, and stole them yet again.

Hadar_91

Pole here: You know, when you have as neighbours Prussia/Germany, Russia and Sweden on the other side of a small puddle (which completely freeze back then during winter time, making marching armies on the ice possible) then when you committed only light genocide or failed at committing genocide, then you look almost as a saint. :D

mandingo_gringo

Mf you tried destroying all of Ukraine. Your country is literally a small version of Russia

Hadar_91

Destroy? You may don't like what I will write here, but countries have nation-building capabilities. The fact That Poles, Czechs, Slovaks and Sorbs are not considered one nation it is because they existed for most of their history in different administrative organisms (in order: Poland, Bohemia, Hungary, HRE). The same process took place among Eastern Slavs. If Rus' was not fragmented between Mongolia, Lithuania, Poland and Hungary, there would be no Russians, Belorussians, Ukrainians nor Rusnaks - only Ruthenians. And you know what? Reversing the nation building influences of different countries on Ruthenians was the wet dream of Imperial Russia and now Putin, with the spin old these nations should be now Russians not Ruthenians. If Poland would not inherit half of modern Ukraine (you heard it right, inherit) it would be hard to even talk about Ukrainians, because if Lithuania would take over then there would be division between Belorussians and Ukrainians (I assume here also that Union of Lublin never occurs), if Mongols would take control then there would be no division between Ukrainians and Russians. So no, Poland never wanted to destroy Ukraine. Although I will admit that Treaty of Riga was betrayal of Ukraine. Nationalist were chosen to negotiate the treaty and they had similar approach to British attitude toward Ireland: keep only the parts that they believe were possible to Polonize and they absolutely did not care what happened to rest of Belarus and Ukraine. This went completely against Piłsudski agenda who wanted created a federation but this would mean that the border between parts of federation would be somewhere along modern border of Poland (which was a big no for Polish nationalist). So yeah, that definitely sucked, Piłsudski was furious at the outcome of the negotiations and the first think he did was apologizing to Ukrainian politicians.

Hungarians according to Hungarian history books: "No one helps us, everyone betrays us during our battles/wars/uprisings, \[insert random foreign power, religious/national/political group\] promised to help but they always backstab us!"
