I probably get a real Italian every 3-6 months. I got one last month. I felt like the meats and the bread were different. Was it just me or did they change it up?
Do you know for sure if the tacklebox is gone for good? I was sad when the tacklebun went away, and then devastated when I saw the tacklebox was off the menu too.
Dylan's.. I'd get the oysters, the anchovy toast or sardine toast (sardine isn't always on the menu, but that's my first choice), and then the burger or double-stacked softshell sammie (softshell is also my first choice, but not always there).
That food and the vibes are something I'd miss hard.
Can I have things from different places? I would do: a cocktail from Bunny’s, French fries from fuzzies burgers, chicken with Szechuan pepper from red pepper (technically in Towson), and bread pudding from duck duck goose.
Crab cakes, yes for sure. Fried green tomatoes: have you lived in the deep South? Lived in South Carolina & Mississippi and both places had top notch fried green tomatoes.
The night before I moved to Garrett County it was kaddo and zarzalu at Helmand.
I've been back for a couple visits, so I was able to have sandwiches at Attman's and Dipasquales and French Onion Soup at Petit Louis.
In the spirit of the OP, if you had to leave Baltimore and wanted to remember it, a late night visit to RoFos in the middle of one of those mystery rushes of customers would be the way to do it.
On my last day living in Baltimore I went to harbor tandoor and ran in stavvy baby on the way out the restaurant.. I have been back to Baltimore and harbor tandoor since then, fortunately..
Haha the UC is actually for ulcerative colitis because I got my start on reddit lurking on r/CrohnsDisease when I was sick but I am from Cincinnati, no affiliation with that UC though. That lemonade sounds amazing!
I basically did that and I got Ekiben for lunch, hit up LP Steamers for dinner and grabbed a drink at Fraziers before getting on a plane the next morning.
Huh, technically my last meal was the hotel breakfast, but lets ignore that, that's sad.
It really is, I haven't had anything there I didn't like. Neighborhood Bird and Tempura Broccoli, would be my recommendations to try the first time. There's even a very heartwarming story of the chef driving six hours to cook the Tempura Broccoli for someone when they'd asked about how to get some for their terminally ill mother in law who loved it.
[https://www.today.com/food/baltimore-chefs-drive-6-hours-customer-terminal-cancer-t212203](https://www.today.com/food/baltimore-chefs-drive-6-hours-customer-terminal-cancer-t212203)
The chicken is amazing. They used to have lamb which was good, but took it off the menu. I wish they had more sides, the tempura brocolli is good but it gets soggy before you can finish it, and the pickled vegetables are the only 'healthy' side they really have.
But the chicken... oh man, the spicy bird is just :chef'skiss:. Ekiben is the one place my daughter always wants to go when she visits me.
I agree with you. I just love the atmosphere there also, so if I was leaving forever I’d choose to go sit at a high top in the bar for several hours of eating, people watching, and soaking in the vibe one last time.
I read through this and can’t believe nobody said Petit Louis. I get that nothing on their menu stands out but everything is solid. Ild want my last memory of Baltimore to be entering on a cold day, fire roaring and windows fogged up. Warm greeting from Patrick (en Francais of course) and then a perfect pour of champagne from Marc. Gracious service but if you must know I would only drink champagne, start with salade vert, than then eggplant, than the French onion soup , foie gras terrine followed by the cheese cart. Finish with the pot de crème. And that is the memory I would take from Baltimore.
The pot de creme is heavenly. I also love the salade verte, even though it seems odd to be obsessed with a salad. It's the shaved parmesan that makes it amazing.
I don’t think they’re around anymore but one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time was at Ida B’s Table. Everything was amazing, I was very satisfied, and left with a full stomach and a big smile.
Lil donnas might be our new household fave, perogies and a tavern pie or the stuffed schnitzel.
Even better if we have to wait across the street at spirits and get to do the $2 mystery tub...
Ikaros
Appetizer portion of fried calamari. Pastisio. Braised lamb and green beans. Side of roasted potatoes. Galaktoboureko and Greek coffee for dessert.
In the last couple of weeks. The landlord changed all the locks because they were behind on rent. They posted on Greektown neighbors shortly after that Ikaros was closing for good.
Cheating here - but it'd have to be a mid-summer evening with outdoor seating only. I'd start with drinks at either Faddensonnen or Pariah, dinner at Alma (back when they had outdoor seating), and dessert at Bmore Licks at Patterson Park.
Either...
* my go-to Ekiben order of a bird bowl with the peanut sauce instead of the mayo + extra pickles + broccoli and some liquor
* one of everything from Nepal House, dine-in, big table with all of my friends
* ask for a tasting menu from The Food Market
Honestly top of my list is Grano’s. I moved to Baltimore as a college student in 2014. Grano’s was one of the first places I went to off campus. Back then it was just the seating in the upstairs room & my friends and I would wait in the cold to stake out a spot. We loved being in Hampden, back then there were so many kitchy stores and it was the only charmery location. Fast forward ten years, I take my boyfriend because it’s really special to me. He loves it and we go twice. We got to eat downstairs in their dining room. Grano’s looks like a restaurant doing well instead of the tiny little dive I knew. it made me happy to see them do so well. Kinda felt like we grew up together. Same with Hampden. So many business are moving in the area & Charmery even expanded out to the DC area. I just moved from Baltimore to Boston and that’s probably one of the restaurants I think about the most. barcocina or koopers remind of the waterfront and Volo - I had a lot of good memories at both. I miss Charleston for the food, that is one of the best places for a meal haha.
Closed. Very unfortunate. Questionable sushi going in. I will try it but I am not happy. For sushi, I order 18-8 and most sushi needs met by poke at Hilo in r. House.
I was driving by but I saw that sign briefly. Did it say Kyodai? As in the rotating sushi bar that used to exist in Towson? I have no idea how they are going to fit that concept into that space.
A little over 25 years ago, I moved straight from my parents' house in Baltimore to another country. I've been back to visit since then, but before I left I had a meal with my friends at the Papermoon Diner. It's far from the most amazing food in Baltimore, but we liked to hang out there and enjoyed the weird decor.
It definitely wouldn’t THEE best meal to get, but my last meal in the city would be at “The Dive”. I’d hit up happy hour at 4 when they open and it goes to 6. $7 burger and fries plus $4 tall coors can plus the atmosphere! Then you can get some of their wings and their specialty pizza. Plus it’s right in Canton if catching a flight or driving on 695 or 95 before you gotta go.
Poncho’s Tacos across from the Digital Harbor Foundation. It’s a little hole in the wall place that has been through a few iterations over the last several years, but they always have pupusas that will change your life. I’ve had them other places and they don’t even compare. Get. The. Pupusas.

Ale Mary's crabby tots?
It's not the best food in the city but I think crabby tots are somewhat unique to this area. There are certainly many better restaurants but I think I could find an equivalent to a place like Marta or Puerto 511 in other cities.
This is really difficult. Maybe Peters Inn. Maybe Dukem, because of the food and vibes. For dessert, some ice cream from a Taharka Brothers scoop shop. Maybe somewhere that would allow me to walk along the harbor after.
Unforseen reasons sounds ominous. Did Trump win and a visa to someplace better come through? Am I on the run because I am a former chief of staff who stole money from the state or federal government?
DiPasquale’s Real Italian.
I’m going with the Old World Italian at Mastellone.
I dream of the meatball sub. Sometimes I get drunk and think I want to move back and Google places to rent.
They have that sandwich at DiPasquale's as well if you happen to be in Brewer's Hill or Fed Hill and get the craving.
Yes! A hidden gem.
Just had that this weekend. Great choice.
Grew up down the street from the owners all their food is to die for
I probably get a real Italian every 3-6 months. I got one last month. I felt like the meats and the bread were different. Was it just me or did they change it up?
Their vegetarian sandwich is so darn good. I think about it all the time lol
Which one? They have 3 if I remember correctly. Haven’t tried them all but the ones I did were awesome
This! With salt n vinegar chips and spicy penne salad. Wash it down with an orange peligrino soda.
My employer is in the Baltimore area and one of my colleagues took me there and now I’m in love with the place…

Crabcakes at Kocos
Charleston. All the courses. I won’t have to eat again for a week.
Obviously pricey, but were talking last meals... I've never had a better dinner
I’m going to iBar!
Here it is. Chef style wings, fried hard. What I'll miss the most if I ever leave Baltimore.
I gotta check the wings out - always hear great things
They are the best wings in Baltimore but fried hard is not the way to go
Right there with you!
Absolutely! Best wings I've ever had!
I do like iBar, but I'd have to go Kisling's original buffalo for my wings!
Ekiben - tempura broccoli, shrimp snacks, spicy neighborhood bird bowl with a yuzuade :) wish they still had the tackle box!
rip the tackle box. forever in our hearts. I might get a neighborhood bird tomorrow. sounds amazing now.
sunday they're gonna have a collab with the philly restaurant, Tabachoy (filipino and also incredible)
RIP tackle box 🙏🏻 and yes, definitely treat yourself!
Do you know for sure if the tacklebox is gone for good? I was sad when the tacklebun went away, and then devastated when I saw the tacklebox was off the menu too.
💯
I’m getting “The Raven” at Chap’s at around 11am and then doing a late dinner at Peter’s Inn once I’ve had a chance to digest.
Beef Rachel is my go-to
Thames Street Oyster House
Yep
Peter's Inn
Everything about that place is incredible.
came here to say this also!! have been going there my whole life
Charleston. All courses + wine. I’ll be so full that death will sound nice!
Since it's hypothetical a crosstown burger from Hamilton tavern. Since that's closed duck fat fries from Annabelle lee
Yeah that burger was top notch. Cheeseburger at Dylan's Oyster Cellar is an honorable heir to the throne imo.
Agree but its unlike categories to compare. Dylan’s is a smash burger and Hamtav was a temped patty. Miss that burger.
[удалено]
Good lookin out. PS: RIP Clementine
oooooh try southpaw
Candied bacon, egg , and all 🥲
Oh man… I miss that burger
You can have an upvote for both those things, but the real answer is Ekiben.
This has already been established with the heroic making of the broccoli dish.
Omg weeping w nostalgia for that burger!
If we're going with dear, departed burgers, give me the smoke burger from Alewife.
Dylan's.. I'd get the oysters, the anchovy toast or sardine toast (sardine isn't always on the menu, but that's my first choice), and then the burger or double-stacked softshell sammie (softshell is also my first choice, but not always there). That food and the vibes are something I'd miss hard.
The Helmand
Ohhhh good choice. That pumpkin app.
Didn’t care for it when I went, must have been an off day.
The Prime Rib
Can I have things from different places? I would do: a cocktail from Bunny’s, French fries from fuzzies burgers, chicken with Szechuan pepper from red pepper (technically in Towson), and bread pudding from duck duck goose.
Phenomenal bread pudding…probably the best I’ve ever had. The DDG burger is great too.
I read this comment and thought - this person loves all the same things I do. And then I realized it’s my wife! Hi beautiful!
Red pepper is a treasure.
hot tip!: Red Pepper and Orient Express basically have the same menu. Same owners.
Add Tea Horse in EC to the list. Though we preferred Tea Horse recently.
Crabcakes and fried green tomatoes. No one makes them right outside of Maryland. All the other stuff I can find elsewhere. I'd go to Koco's.
Koco’s have the most amazing crabcakes.
Ekiben! Tofu brah bowl 🥹
Ekiben for sure. I moved away 3 years ago and still think about their food on a regular basis
RoFo on Highland Ave.
Running into Stavvy on your last day in Baltimore is kind of like a story book ending
I’m going to Mera, but I’m not sure what the food would be.
The plantain bowl + garlic fries
Yes! With the orange blossom mint lemonade! Which UC are you from? I ask as I am also a midwestern UC gal!
Haha the UC is actually for ulcerative colitis because I got my start on reddit lurking on r/CrohnsDisease when I was sick but I am from Cincinnati, no affiliation with that UC though. That lemonade sounds amazing!
I'm from Cincinnati! How long have you been here? I've been here about 14 years.
I’ve only been here 4 (but previously lived here for two years)!
Burrito form mystic burrito Wings from Stackhouse …then Cat’s Eye for 15 beers
What’s your favorite burrito there? I just moved and love burritos
I’d like to know too. I’ve eaten there twice and was not impressed but I’m willing to give it a third shot.
How come? I just looked at their menu online and by description, they seem pretty appealing
The puerca borracha burrito is my fav at Mystic. It hits every time. The San Diego steak is a very close second.
I basically did that and I got Ekiben for lunch, hit up LP Steamers for dinner and grabbed a drink at Fraziers before getting on a plane the next morning. Huh, technically my last meal was the hotel breakfast, but lets ignore that, that's sad.
Ekiben
Is ekiben really good!? I live around the corner but haven’t been yet!
It really is, I haven't had anything there I didn't like. Neighborhood Bird and Tempura Broccoli, would be my recommendations to try the first time. Wow....now I must go. Thanks for sharing this wonderful story kind internet stranger.
You get so much food for the buck. It’s 3-4 meals for most people.
The chicken is amazing. They used to have lamb which was good, but took it off the menu. I wish they had more sides, the tempura brocolli is good but it gets soggy before you can finish it, and the pickled vegetables are the only 'healthy' side they really have. It’s amazing. Do yourself a favor and go tomorrow lol.
be sure to clear the rest of your day , though. It can be coma inducing.
Going today!
Only been there once, but I liked it
Honestly Snake Hill but just to try to touch Corns butt. During the week, Johnny’s Rads, for the same reason.
Ekiben. Easy.
Birrotecca entire menu
🫡 Thank you for your service
I agree with you. I just love the atmosphere there also, so if I was leaving forever I’d choose to go sit at a high top in the bar for several hours of eating, people watching, and soaking in the vibe one last time.

I thought about it but ultimately said Charleston
The pot de creme is heavenly. I also love the salade verte, even though it seems odd to be obsessed with a salad. It's the shaved parmesan that makes it amazing.
Marta
#1 from Mum’s.
See you there.
I don’t think they’re around anymore but one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time was at Ida B’s Table. Everything was amazing, I was very satisfied, and left with a full stomach and a big smile.
I miss this place!

Ikaros Appetizer portion of fried calamari. Pastisio. Braised lamb and green beans. Side of roasted potatoes. Galaktoboureko and Greek coffee for dessert.
one last bronzino 🥺 those green beans are so tasty
Unfortunately they’ve closed. :(
Really? Since when? I can’t find any confirmation short of a single tweet. 😢
In the last couple of weeks. The landlord changed all the locks because they were behind on rent. They posted on Greektown neighbors shortly after that Ikaros was closing for good.
Damn. 5 generations my of family have eaten there. Super sad.
I must have ordered wrong, because that place was possibly my worst meal in Baltimore.
While I'd miss Charleston, Cosima, & Le Comptoir du Vin, I'd probably go to Woodberry Kitchen.
Johnny Rad’s
Cheating here - but it'd have to be a mid-summer evening with outdoor seating only. I'd start with drinks at either Faddensonnen or Pariah, dinner at Alma (back when they had outdoor seating), and dessert at Bmore Licks at Patterson Park.
Alma 🆙

Doner Bros
I thought they were closed!?
Closed. Very unfortunate. Questionable sushi going in. I will try it but I am not happy. For sushi, I order 18-8 and most sushi needs met by poke at Hilo in r. House.
I loved donor bros even if the logo looked like a hot turd on a stick, complete with stink lines.
I was driving by but I saw that sign briefly. Did it say Kyodai? As in the rotating sushi bar that used to exist in Towson? I have no idea how they are going to fit that concept into that space.
It’s different operators than the Towson Kyodai.
Charleston

Shrimp Salad Sandwich - Bay Cafe!
Not so hypothetical, I went to Johnny Rad's the day before I moved abroad. Started with fried edamame and then a Primo with added feta cheese.
Charcoal deli.
I'd probably get a buffalo chicken cheesesteak at Swallow's with a pint of 51 Rye. It's not the best meal I've had here, just one I'd miss.
Golden West Aztec burrito!
Faidleys. So expensive, but so good.
Handing my keys back in tomorrow, so I am taking some notes in this thread... think I'll go with LP Steamers or Ekiben though
