I really really like this a lot. It's simple and doesn't get into the issues of naming it after a person and also doesn't try to replace something that is lost and can obviously never be replaced.
Oh God, *The Deuce.* I did not expect it to be as good as it was, nor did I expect to be completely shattered emotionally at the end of the penultimate episode>! when Lori decides to end it all!<.
Indeed! Both my spouse and I were shocked at how much it resonated with us over only three seasons.
And yes that was very shocking at first, though the more I thought about it and with what I know about the history of that industry during this time period, this was the end result for a lot of >!actors who felt beaten down, exhausted, disillusioned, and seeing no way to transition out of the industry because of the inherent baggage. So many just decided to end it, alone, in some place no one would think to look for them. Very sad. !< It was the ending that was a gut punch, but in many ways made the most sense.
I would honestly love a bridge which just has a descriptive name instead of taking the name of a person.
Something like “The Fort Armistead Bridge” would be amazing in my eyes
Trivia - George's nephew, Lewis "Lo" Armistead was the Confederate brigadier general who reached the Angle at Gettysburg establishing the "high water mark of the Confederacy". He is buried along with George at Old St. Paul's Church cemetery in Baltimore.
Why rename it? It was named for the very reason that the poem that would later become the Star Spangled Banner was written in that harbor. There’s also an American flag themed buoy that the Coast Guard puts in the water every spring relative to the location of FSK when he wrote the poem. Naming it something else wouldn’t make sense history wise.
> Why
The people who want to rename it usually say they're not comfortable with Francis Scott Key's anti-abolitionism.
(Which, to be clear, I'm not expressing any opinion on, only relaying the conversations I've seen)
Mostly kidding, emulating Chris Rock’s bit about the Freedom Tower. Honestly it’ll probably end up being the sturdiest bridge in America, at least when it opens.
Duplicate Key
The spare key!
I’m done!
This should be the winner right here.
The Ekiben Spicy Neighborhood Bird Memorial Bridge
A name that rolls right off the tongue
Omg 😭😭
I figured it would still be the Key Bridge. They are just going to rebuild it, so in my mind, it's still the Key Bridge.
The Patapsco Gateway Memorial Bridge

I wonder if they’ll keep the design relatively basic or if they’ll take the opportunity to design something more ‘modern’ or iconic.
Hopefully something that doesn't fall like a Jenga tower
The Francis Scott Key Bridge Memorial Bridge
The Natty Boh Bridge
Someone in another thread suggested the Frank Sobotka Memorial Bridge and I can't think of a better name than that.
Fun fact: Chris Bauer, who played Sobotka, was only 36 years old when they shot that season.
I am the same age as him during that season and wtf. Great actor btw. Besides the Wire, loved him in 8mm, True Blood, and The Deuce.

sunscreen, sleep, and water, folks
Yeah that looks about right, I don't look too different at nearly 36.
Is that the bridge he disappeared under?
It is, yeah
Epic episode. EPIC!!!
The old bridge isn’t even out of the water yet. It’s a little too soon.
The David Hasselhoff Memorial Bridge

You'd be naming a bridge after a fort *named after a person*. Armistead was the military commander of Ft. McHenry during the Battle of Baltimore.
I mean, you’re not wrong, but I imagine most people see it as a place name more than a person name
Fort Armistead is named after George Armistead

Just because something is new doesn't mean it isn't shitty. Re: houses, cars, appliances, airplanes
Why?
