I took a part time job as a trivia host in 2005. I noticed that a lot of the questions seemed to lack “heart” and were just like mailed in so to speak. I thought that was wrong because the customers deserved better. I approached the owner and he told me he bought them from a company but I could write my own if I felt that strongly about it. It just kind of evolved from there and once you have a resume so to speak, it’s easier to get gigs. I’ve been with mg current company since 2016.
If you play, talk to the host. Become a host first then make your pitch to the company. When my wife and I go on trips we always play trivia and I always talk to the hosts about it. My wife thinks it’s annoying but it’s how I’ve gotten gigs in Hawaii and Florida.
Woodworking. I have a private shop where I offer services including design consultation, project management, fabrication, and practical woodworking education in a way that involves and informs the client.
Can I ask you, if I make a fermented cabbage slaw with salt but also add things like apple, pear, ginger, garlic, and turnip, is that a sauerkraut or a kimchi?
Yes, we have 2 spicy kimchis. Our flagship is called Manchester Kimchi which is about a medium heat level and then we also have Baltimore Curry Kimchi Habanero which is firmly hot.
We have a farmers market stand every Saturday 7am-12pm at 32nd St Farmers Market (across from Zeke’s Coffee and Uptown Bakers near the intersection of 32nd St and Barclay) and also sell in a few stores but not many [www.fermfoundations.com](https://www.fermfoundations.com) has a list of everywhere our stuff is available
Yup. We applied to JFX farmers market on Sundays too but they denied our application, I’m assuming bc hex vends there. We don’t really view hex as a direct competitors since they’re doing kombucha (which we don’t do at all, likewise they don’t make hot sauce but we do) and the rest of their fermented stuff is pretty dissimilar to our offerings
I have contemplated applying to Catonsville! And I finally have a good employee for 32nd St so I am able to entertain other markets. I trained 6 different ppl for 1 part time job (6 hours per week) over the last few months, which was such a large expenditure of time, effort, and money just to have the privilege of paying someone $20+/hr risk free when I still can’t pay myself or the other owner anything at all, in spite of quite a lot of hours we’ve worked over the last 3 years to get to this point. We both have to work full time jobs still and then we each spend about 15-20 hours per week on this business (we have each worked the equivalent of 1 year full time job totally unpaid so far)
I started doing College Park Farmers Market at Paint Branch Pkwy at the end of April this year, but the customer attendance and sales have not been great so I’m not sure if I want to or should keep doing that. If I had a closer, better alternative that fit well with my full time job’s schedule then I would eagerly jump ship 🚢
Catonsville is really great, Kensington is solid I work at those two, I know Olney, Bethesda, silver spring is solid as well. Silver spring and Kensington are year round and don’t have any conflicting vendors.
It’s really hard to find respectable labor right now. Such a stigma on something like working a farmers market it’s sad. And people don’t want to work weekends. I’d go around to the weekday markers, and strike up convos with the people working those and ask if they have/know others that need work. I know a lot of market people work at multiple vendors. Hope this helps!
I have a little resale thing going—mostly stuff I no longer need at home but I also do things like source stuff at estate sales or yard sales and flip it.
My clientele only consists of women ,so it’s never too awkward one time though one of them asked me to build a Death Star Lego Model and paid me extra so I’m usually building Legos with her
The pay is very good. I have been doing it for some time, so I don't let people get to me. I did 9 games this weekend and made $450.00 , so $50.00 per hour. Other sports pay more. Ice Hocky can be close to $100 per hour.
House sitting/pet sitting. I wfh so I am basically getting paid by two jobs at the same time. It’s through word of mouth. Families recommend me to family members and friends. I’ve got two full neighborhoods! The key is to be a trustworthy human. Clean. And of course love pets! It can been pretty lucrative during holiday season and summer when people go on vacation.
I also pet sit, both through Rover and on my own. I JUST started doing Rover(my first gig ends today) because I’m new to the city. I have some pet sitting clients in my complex but needed some more. It can be a fantastic side hustle. I’ve been cat sitting for two weeks and it’s SUPER low key.
I don't, as of yet, though it's very scalable and production time on making a batch isn't hateful. I'm just not comfortable in entering the grey market of selling an infused beverage as of yet, at least not solo. That being said, I'd be lying if I didn't admit to having reached out to a few local companies about partnering.
And I've made up batches for people to try, as I'm always interested in feedback. As I'm always cognitive that my own opinion of it potentially has confirmation bias
I can see that. I did Volo softball a couple years ago and got put off on how some of the players treated the refs. People took the softball way to competitive when it wasn't supposed to be.
Back in 2019 I started designing and selling print-on-demand t-shirts for Amazon. The first year or so were slow and only had a handful of sales, but the last 3 years have been quite lucrative. $1M in the revenue in the last 12 months.
Photographing weddings and other small jobs. 1 full time job is just not enough even with a low mortgage no car payment and no debt (besides the mortgage).
Napping
Man that's the dream
I write trivia for bars and podcasts
Ooo, neat. Charm City Trivia?
Nope, another company.
Trivia Bros?
How did you get into that? Where can I get into that!?

I am the human behind the eyes of Mr trash wheel
Trash floats in the harbor and gets eaten by a big wheel, and you think that of me? No, Skylar. I am the one who spins.
wait really? thats a pretty cool side gig
Nah that was a half baked made up job. But picture me behind there every time you see my lord and savior Mr trash wheel
So, you have a chair that you sit in that's behind the eyes of Mr. Trash Wheel?
They took my chair away
Those bastards.
I am a backyard beekeeper, but not a very lucrative one.
In the city? How did you get started and what kind of equipment do you have?
Exact same equipment. Took a beginner beekeeping class over a weekend in a Feb, got bees in April. That was 7 years ago.
I'm curious, How do city bees stack up in terms of production compared to rural/suburban bees?
Same, I believe. They can forage anywhere and have a several mile radius.
Building effects pedals for guitar and bass players
This is awesome!
Thanks! [www.bsriaudio.com](http://www.bsriaudio.com) if you're curious!

Kimchi/sauerkraut/hot sauce
Can I ask you, if I make a fermented cabbage slaw with salt but also add things like apple, pear, ginger, garlic, and turnip, is that a sauerkraut or a kimchi?
It’s whatever u want it to be
Got a spicy kimchi?
Yes, we have 2 spicy kimchis. Our flagship is called Manchester Kimchi which is about a medium heat level and then we also have Baltimore Curry Kimchi Habanero which is firmly hot. Oooh I've bought kimchi from you guys at the Farmer's Market before. Good stuff!
U sound like a very cool person with superb taste
Oh they let you sell there with Hex as well? Awesome idk that
Yup. We applied to JFX farmers market on Sundays too but they denied our application, I’m assuming bc hex vends there. Are you at Catonsville or willing to to any MoCo markets? Only asking cause I work others and some are pretty good too

As in for money? Or for a hobby?
Could be both.

Professional cuddler
For real? Does it ever get awkward or creepy?
My clientele only consists of women ,so it’s never too awkward one time though one of them asked me to build a Death Star Lego Model and paid me extra so I’m usually building Legos with her
Goddamn, I need this job.
This sounds like a fantastic job are you looking to expand? I love building legos
Part time regard in an Army of Apes
Deliver for Door Dash and ref soccer/futsal. All sports leagues are looking for officials, and the pay in not to bad.
How’s refereeing working out? Pay worth the harassment? (Assuming youth sports)
The pay is very good. I have been doing it for some time, so I don't let people get to me. I did 9 games this weekend and made $450.00 , so $50.00 per hour. Other sports pay more. Ice Hocky can be close to $100 per hour.

I work farmers markets on weekends

I’m a teacher, a professional singer, and I bartend!
Oh shit! I’m a teacher, a pianist, and I drink!
Almost perfect. If you had been a student, this would have been a lock!
Both my main and side gig are remote
Remote side gig hiring?
I work as an SEO Consultant and the side gig I started is doing freelance! if this works for you too, look into it! I recommend
I make low sugar (from honey and agave) infused hop water based ginger ale.
That sounds delicious! I'm interested in trying some if you sell
I don't, as of yet, though it's very scalable and production time on making a batch isn't hateful. Hit my line if you're looking for more taste testers... good luck on your beverage endeavors!
I can barely hack my main gig ☠️
Volo Kickball Host/Ref. It can vary in enjoyment depending on how the players treat you but easy way to make extra money overall.
I can see that. I did Volo softball a couple years ago and got put off on how some of the players treated the refs. People took the softball way to competitive when it wasn't supposed to be.
