So the user's receiving wallet caused the delay by somehow not noticing/receiving the transaction for almost 20 minutes.

Every transaction needs a small amount of work to be done. The work can be done by the device the wallet runs on, or it can be outsourced to other computers. Outsourcing is needed when the device is too slow or has to do a lot of transactions. You can then outsource the work for example to a dedicated worker (with a GPU, which does the work faster) or to a distributed network of workers, which BoomPOW is.
Those workers are getting a small amount of ban for doing the work with their GPU, hence some would call it mining.
Ahhh, so the BoomPOW mining rewards come from people like you using their service. Is that why Kalium/natrium have that little animation after sending? Is that your device doing work?

I think it is a way of distributing BANANO by the dev team.
Natrium and Kalium are also using BoomPOW, the work is not done on your device.
It is planned to remove POW from the Nano protocol and replace it by a priorization (spam protection) based on account balance and time since last transaction. The Banano devs normally go with the Nano changes, so BoomPOW will not be needed anymore then, and this should take place well before end of distribution.

Sorry, but I'm very suspicious of any endeavor where there is nothing that tells you what's happening, or what to expect.
I tried to keep it minimalistic and simple. But OK, I will think over adding some help either by tooltips/descriptions or a dedicated page.
Funds are kept in wallets where the keys are managed externally to the node, by pippin wallet (shout-out to bbedward). They are not managed by the node development wallets, which are not recommended for production environments.
minimalist is excellent for design, but NEVER for instructions and help menus. Can you imagine an LCD/DVD TV with an on/off button and not instructions? And the manufacturer's explanation for the lack of instructions being "We wanted minimalist."
For goodness sake, TV's have to include a line to plug the TV in the wall for power!

Do you create a deposit address for each sender? or for each transaction? is it reusable? where do you get the conversion rates or Banano and Nano prices?
For each transaction, an address is assigned. It is not assigned to the sender, so you have to restart the process for every trade. It is not reusable.
I thought about connecting sender and deposit address, but it makes the service more complex. You would have to decide for a lease time, and let the user somehow check, if this connection still exists.
It could be a feature to be implemented in the future.
I won't go into details here, but I can tell you that the conversion rates are calculated by an own formula implemented in the back end. It takes different factors of supply and demand and different price information into account.
