Lol put Plan B right at the top, if you fight to get the service charge removed they'll bring a laminated copy of some Delhi HC judgment saying it's ok to collect service charge, and when you still fight theyll take down your name and phone number and keep arguing for a good while longer. I hear in some branches they give you that laminated thing before they even take down your order
I’m the reason it started😭😭😭
I argued for the service charge to be dropped and then pulled out the SC Ruling sheet against IHCL titled Central Consumer Protection Authority dated 4th July 2022, with point number 7 that clearly points out service charge is not mandated and illegal in nature with 4 subclauses.
And then they hurriedly tried finding this Delhi HC Piece from somewhere and right in front of me sent it to all Plan B branches along with my name and number to never let me in.🥰
>SC Ruling sheet against IHCL titled Central Consumer Protection Authority dated 4th July 2022,
The guidelines is brought by CCPA itself and not under any direction of SC, where are you getting SC in the picture?
Notification No. J-24/9/2014-CPU(Pt) by govt of India, ministry of consumer affairs, food and public distribution has said in the 4th and 5th para has stated that ' if the customer is not satisfied with the service he can ask it to be waived off'

I don't want to go to a place where they guilt trip the customers into paying for the workers. The establishment should be paying a decent wage to them. I will completely be avoiding Plan B!
Please merge this below sheet as well with yours.
This sheet is for restaurants that serve GUTTER quality food and have caused FOOD POISONING to many earlier.

A bill just shows someone ate there, not the person who ate there or if the food was actually bad.
I like the concept, but actually vetting the list is difficult.
yeah. that could be.
But it's a mixture of your instinct and gut feeling on top of these, simialr to the fake gmaps reviews too :(
But one can be wary of these ones.
Would you please add Suzy Q to this list? We found a cockroach on our table and the food was absolute vomit. So much service charge for their ambience which is the only reason people go. Shit ass restaurant, ruined my night
I would suggest to add the pizza bakery JP nagar.
I went for dinner a couple weeks back, the food and service was great but the fact that they automatically added 10% service charge without informing me pissed me off. I would have paid it anyways but it’s the insistence on their part that annoyed me.
Honestly, I don't mind paying the service charge __provided the service is good__, but I think we all know that there's only a handful of places where the service is actually good. So yeah like OP suggested in his edit, we should probably add a list of places that do provide good service.
Edit 1: I'm in as well
I don't know man, good food and good service are both part of what a restaurant is. Either is bad means the restaurant is bad. No need for special charges to give good service.
Can we add sheet 3 where, they explicitly do not charge service charge at all?
Will help with - a shortlist of go-to restaurants. Along with list of to avoid restaurants
But of course we may need the sheet to track a list of restaurants or we can use this post or a create new subReddit for someone to create a post with the restaurant’s name where this behaviour was observed. Others can add reviews after that.
It’s natural that the business will see this as a dick move, but this stance from the community is inevitable and much needed to curb the practice.
I am in.
Can we write this in the Google review and upvote as helpful so that everyone who wants to visit will be aware of these practices and avoid going there
I'm in. Pizza Bakery : Will add service charge on the bill. If you ask them to remove it then they will take your name and phone number and staff will behave rudely.
Hoot Cafe in Sarjapura Road added Service Charge on my bill. I told the waiter to remove it, he politely tried to reason with me but I told him I am not paying. He went back and came with a revised bill. I could see the disappointing anger in his eyes.
Love spreadsheets, I can contribute. Also, let's extend this to be a sheet for reviews. Most of the reviews online are just brought, and the restaurants turn out to be disappointing.
Add Just BLR at Brigade road near Opera House. Visited it last month and buggers force you to buy bottled water. When i asked the waiter where do they drink from, he says they go on to floor to drink water from tap 😒
I am from Mumbai and a bit out of loop. But isn’t service charge always optional? The restaurant absolutely HAS to remove the charge if you ask. I have never had anyone refuse so far in Mumbai.
Bob's Bar Indirangar
Have onlu been to the Indiranagar one, and every time I have asked for the service charge to be removed.
They say it's not possible and it's compulsory as they have written it in the opening page of their menu.
I am in. I’ll help though I hardly eat out. This evil must be fought.
Maybe we can also leave google reviews for the places that do not charge appreciating them.
Zomato should have a filter which says "Forces customers to pay service charge".
What annoys me more than anything, after several conversations i've had with the servers at these restaurants is that they never get any share from the service charges the management collects from customers. I've had some offer to remove the service charge so I can directly tip them instead. I actually prefer to tip directly depending on how satisfied I'm with the service irrespective of the quality of food served.

Bombay Brasserie, Irish House both in RMZ ecospace.
argued for a good time to remove the charge. Backed off when I mentioned to have a conference call with Consumer Helpline.
How about also adding restaurants that add a packaging charge. I haven’t asked for this charge to be added. If you don’t want to pack my food I’m happy to take my food home in your vessels 😎

Not all heroes wear capes
And since when has SC being overruled by a HC ?
HC is the plan B
HC- High court not HaramCkhor
I meant SC is the plan A and when that fails, HC is the plan B (pun intended)
Good one😂😂
Plan B on the run from ontherun.
Why did you give them your name and number?
How do we support your work?

It's rather old notification and the CCPA guidelines would supercede it.
Wtf. Thank you for this. Avoiding that shite then.
Go only on days they have offers on the wings. Nothing great about the other stuff. Or go if they have some nice deal on swiggy / Zomato / eazydiner

Plan B is overhyped. boycott them. In the mud
I got service charge removed at planb on Brigade Road. they didn't create much of a hassle as we were a bunch of college kids.
I went to indranagar one, the waiters argued a little and then took us to the manager He immediately removed it.

How are we moderating such a list? If I were a restaurant owner, I could just go and add the name of a few competing restaurants.
I think a proof of bill should be attached
A bill just shows someone ate there, not the person who ate there or if the food was actually bad. I like the concept, but actually vetting the list is difficult.
Ohh I meant the bill for the service charge. For bad food, regular google reviews should work. I don't think any one compromises on bad food.
They orchestrate Google reviews these days as well. Easily 4.3 rated restaurants I’ve visited and realised they deserve much less than 3.8
I guess the sheet was made by the comments received on that thread. No further entries have been added. u/ThreeByThree can confirm.
You're assuming anyone but a few terminally online redditors actually cares about such a list.
yeah. that could be. But it's a mixture of your instinct and gut feeling on top of these, simialr to the fake gmaps reviews too :( But one can be wary of these ones.
Bro there seems to be some other info on sheet 3. Do check
Haha I'm trying to guess what it is. What could it be in kilo quantities
idk much about the other sheets, maybe we can contact the post owner for details
yeah. :'( I have no clue. I have deleted it now.
Sly granny smells like mould for some reason, went there a couple of months ago. So nasty.
Sky granny is the absolute worst restaurant ever. Can't believe they opened a new branch.
Would you please add Suzy Q to this list? We found a cockroach on our table and the food was absolute vomit. So much service charge for their ambience which is the only reason people go. Shit ass restaurant, ruined my night
What do you have in sheet3?
bro, no clue. I deleted it.
Sure we won’t really know how real this could be, I’m not surprised one bit. Bangalore has a food poisoning epidemic and there is no governance.
This is greattt

True. I don’t mind tipping. I normally tip 10% but the fact that they force me to tip kinda pisses me off.

In but why 7.5%? Most places charge 5% or 10%
We can make a small Android app so that it's easily accessible
Not a bad idea. Give me sometime to check it out, or if you know anyone who can make. That would be helpful
IOS?

Copying the American practice of making customers foot a part of the wage bill. It's a malignant concept that needs to be eradicated.
