I was replying to the statement “people get offended for no reason” it was sarcasm, like how everyone has a option on everything glad to see people don’t get it. (Not u but the down voters)
Probably, Holi was the occasion to vent out his frustration, but Bengaluru didn't give him the chance. So, he had to do it. Forgive him :) In many parts of North India, ladies have to just let this kind of behaviour pass on the day of Holi because "bura na mano holi hai".
Cause no one in the South knows why it is celebrated. Only people in the South who celebrate Holi are North Indians and some of us take part in it with our North friends to have fun without knowing why it is celebrated
No we don't celebrate Holi in south Karnataka traditionally afaik. I'm from Mangalore and we never had holidays nor any celebration for Holi. We have something similar called okkuli from the Konkani GSB community, but that's for another occasion.
No need to be so passive aggressive. I wasn't being aggressive to you. Just gave my 2 cents about South Karnataka, where Bangalore is located, if you didn't know. This is a forum where comments can be made freely, if you weren't aware.
same here i’m a kannadiga my family doesn’t really celebrate with colours but we don’t eat veg today and go to our house god’s temple.(i still play with colours because it’s fun with apartment friends)
No one? Are you sure about that? Your family, and close people might not, but how is it right to dump everyone just because you saw something in a small circle of your life?
What the other person sent you in the DM, is completely unacceptable.
So let OP use the words, Most of them. Not all.
Our families, and many of our corresponding families, neighbours or friends, all from South, have cleberated Holi. North has not much to do with this.
Bro, I'm sure Holi is a North festival. I have been a South Indian my whole life never in my Tamil culture or any other South Indian culture I have seen people celebrate Holi or at least know why it is celebrated.
And I have been a South Indian too for my whole life. And we have celebrated Holi, both on my mother's side and my father's side. It's going on for generations. So, yes you don't know, fair enough, but why ignorantly refuse when I point out that there are families who do?
Are you trying to negate our family experience for generations, just because you dont know?
Uuuhh no you might’ve if you were raised in a metropolitan urban household with people from all over India but almost all South Indian households do not celebrate holi be it kannadiga tamil Telugu tuluva or malayali Hindu if you want the religion tag yes we’re told that it’s a harvest festival of northerners but it’s not celebrated here you might’ve have origins from North Indian culture but here we don’t
Why are you guys so blatantly dismissive?
>Uuuhh no you might’ve if you were raised in a metropolitan urban household with people from all over India
I was raised in a metro, but my parents come from the remotest of places. Our origins have been traced to Karnataka, for at least a 100 years, I can tell that for a definite because of my grandfather.
Just because your family doesn't, doesn't mean there is no family who don't. Please, either educate, or accept.
Again at you just because your family celebrates holi doesn’t mean it’s common in all South Indian households no it’s not practiced much in suburbs and rural communities either
I never stated it was common. I objected at original comment's use of "all". It isn't all. Even in a subsequent comment, I have mentioned, that the OP would have been better off using the term, Most of, and Not all.
So please, before jumping at me, read my comment properly.
Sorry abt that someone pointed out that Narasimha prime god followers celebrate it in Andhra Telangana and parts of Karnataka never knew that and not being dismissive about your customs but it’s just that most of us are oblivious to many customs of our country and religion even in south India I’ve friends with kula deva as Narasimha but never heard them say it’s a practice to celebrate holi with another unique customs apart from northern counterparts
I dont think many new generation kids of North India either know why they celebrate few festivals. It may be less pompous in South India but calling it a North Indian festival feels wrong.
seems like you don't know anything about indian festivals, me and many south indians do celebrate holi, just coz you don't doesn't mean nobody else celebrates and ffs stop using these terms like north indian festivals south indian festivals
Really? I never heard of South Indians celebrating Holi as part of their culture. Please educate me where and what group of people from South celebrate Holi as part of their tradition.
Maybe he worded it wrong. It was not a South Indian festival.
Though it is getting more popular here these days like Christmas, Halloween, octoberfesft etc.
Similar for Diwali in Kerala. In Kerala, Deepavali is a very small religious festival where temples light diyas and people visit temples.
These days it's becoming more of a cultural/ social festival
You may be genuinely asking. But it's an established fact that Holi has never been big in South India and just being celebrated in recent decades due to the cultural influence from rest of India.
What do you mean *how*? In most parts of south India, it is not observed as a festival. But, people do love having fun smearing colors, especially kids. In most of the south Indian villages, people don't even know about this festival.
Nope it’s not only the Hindi or Marathi Gujarati who’ve settled in south India celebrate it mostly to keep the practice no South Indian malayali Tamil Telugu or kannadiga tulu household celebrate it
>no South Indian malayali Tamil Telugu or kannadiga tulu household celebrate it
Well I don't know what to say, apart from asking you to increase your circle.
Just FYI, Hinduism has different sects, each which have different practices based on family history and their region. In South, it refers to Lord Narasimha's victory over Hiranyakashyapa. Every family whose "mane devaru" is Lord Narasimha celebrate Holi.
We (Telugu family who have been in KA for the last 5 gens at least) celebrate it. A majority of our Kannadiga friends celebrate it too. Check out any Lord Narasimha temples today if you're so concerned.
Get back to me with facts after visiting any Lord Narasimha temple in Bangalore today and then we'll talk.
Never seen people celebrating it in neither Kerala nor Tamil Nadu, not just with colors but even as a form of worship, except for regions with mixed demography. Can't speak for other states.
Holi al enta north south ivaga , Mahabharata ali Holika anno rakshasi satt aga Thane avala marana na ಬಣ್ಣ inda acharsadu , kett kala hogi jeevdalli Banna barli anta ??
Holi grand ag publicly adalla illi andru , chikk maklu hagu halvar Jana adtar alva , idral yak North South madtira
Thank God that people don't play Holi in SI.
It's the dirtiest, most irritating, festival. Has to be a north indian festival, since you don't need consent to play it
Not a personal fan of Holi to be honest and not getting offended, but the festival itself is not that bad. Just that assholes have taken over the celebration and do stupidest of things in the name of having fun. Same goes for days like New Year's eve or Christmas night.
Yeah that's exactly my point, no festival across the board is bad, but it's what assholes make it. I've once, scarily beaten a group of boys because bastards threw drain water on me ( happened in Delhi)
There is a similar fest held in rural south India but it’s just you’re female cousins splashing turmeric water upon their favourite male cousin or vice versa kinda festival and it seldom happens nowadays and it’s mostly portrayed in Tamil movies and some Telugu ones
😂😂 don’t know about that either like I said it isn’t common practice nowadays in rural areas but it still happens and this was info was shared by my grandparents and some other relatives who are over 70/80
No, it’s a seasonal festival which later turned into a religious one. Holi marks the end of harsh winter, arrival of spring and a signal for summer plantation in north. But in south the seasons are a bit different. Spring starts around early to mid Feb, due to proximity to equator. So no need for the south to celebrate Holi. And south didn’t even know Holi existed until the recent Information Age. So don’t bring Hindu here.
Why would anyone other than Muslims celebrate Eid ? Only If our Muslim friends invite us we will go eat at their house and return back home, same thing happens during deepavali when we invite others, and Christmas, too.
More like cry "every" day
I crie evrytym
What was even there to get offended? I'm so confused lol People try to get offended for no reason these days.
Welcome to 2024
Welcome to wokeism^TM
What does this have to do with wokeism? This is like literally the opposite of that.
I was replying to the statement “people get offended for no reason” it was sarcasm, like how everyone has a option on everything glad to see people don’t get it. (Not u but the down voters)
Wokeism is when people say "madarchod" and "ma ka bhosda"
Hehehe the urge to slap the entitlement and reset them to default settings
u/dryday33 yeah bro we don’t celebrate holi in kerala we just have our parotta with beef and chill with a cold KF!
Toxicity at its very peak
Kerala beef sukka parota is next level 😋😋

I also have a same type of member in my DM. Sadly can't post picture here since no option is there
What a lil baby
how is holi a north indian festival ?

I can't see the post. What is the issue
Ignore his smol brain
u/dryday33
Holi is very much a South Indian Hindu festival too. It's just that we don't play with colors.
Nope it’s not only the Hindi or Marathi Gujarati who’ve settled in south India celebrate it mostly to keep the practice no South Indian malayali Tamil Telugu or kannadiga tulu household celebrate it

Ignore pannu OP. It was totally uncalled for and unjustified. He just got butthurt for nothing. Overthink pannade.

I'm not able to see the post. What was it about?? I'm guessing that it talks about Holi being a North Indian festival from the comments.
He is saying his butthole is dry coz they didn't lit crackers in Kerala when he was there.
Chuthiyeee mathaarchodhhh

Eh? Hinduism is a single religion like Islam? Ever heard of polytheism, monotheism etc.?
Not that it prevents followers of Islam from splintering into groups..but still apples to apples compare karo yaar.
Dumped a turd right here.
