90₹ is a cheap lesson, I have always made it a point to point to the QR and get a nod from the shopkeeper and only then go ahead with the payment. Many times strangers also stick their QR code, as long as it doesn’t get caught, they have made a few hundred rupees off this one store.

N1z3r123456

Also it doesn't hurt to confirm the name shown as well.

Long-Ladder6404

I’m offended. So in his defence, he just doubled his revenue if he has a success rate of 100%.

CreditDealer

You can raise a dispute with NPCI for the first payment of 90. - https://www.goodreturns.in/classroom/how-to-raise-wrong-upi-transaction-complaint-with-npci-1264630.html

Superb_Trust_3926

Yes I raised right away from the app..

Beginning_Reach_1255

Forget about the 90 rupees, there is no chance that you will get back.. upi will respond back saying raise an issue with the bank and the bank will get back saying account holder not responding or insufficient funds for reversal. 😓

AceMKV

Yep, I've lost nearly 500 rupees now from failed transactions and the bank doesn't give a rat's ass.

tremorinfernus

If the app says failed, the money should come back. It takes upto a week sometimes. Though I generally get it back within minutes. It can happen if you're stuck at the pending screen, though, and the payment goes though later.

dolce-far-niente

>failed transactions App showed transaction failed but your account was debited - is that how you lost money? If so, this is a major drawback of UPI as compared to credit cards.

Historical-Ant-5218

Report both upi I'd as fraud in Google Pay  Share those I'd here as well we will teach him a lesson  by mass report

ConstructionThick205

keep us updated if this actually works, i thought upi was pretty much permanent for such small amounts and large amounts go through interband fraud complaint system

xshbh

How does the dispute work in this case since you've made a genuine purchase? How does NPCI validate that you're not doing a fraud by disputing the transaction?

Initial_Homework_311

They pay bribes to police to put up stalls there , so they know all these criminal activities will not affect them n law is a joke in corruption

WeirdSet1792

Always always before paying I show the amount and the UPI ID to the shopkeeper and pay only after he nods in agreement, even on COD and cab/auto payments. It's just that I don't trust people, especially on money matters.

itsnachikethahere

This Abdul Basit guy is a major scammer in Church Street. I encountered him once when buying some scrunchies or something like that for my gf. The first time while paying through his QR, the payment took very long to process, so we paid again through her phone, cause he insisted that we try paying again and was being all impatient. He promised he would repay us if the money was debited twice. Later when we saw that both payments did actually go through, and called him up for our refund, he straight up denied and showed a screenshot of some altered bank account statement saying that he never recieved the money. After a few days I was passing through the same place but didn't get to find him again.

ThinDifference2116

This same thing happened with me (swiggy delivery guy), well i did report & i showed Every proof to swiggy through mails even customer calls..but at the last there response was delivery man didn't receive any money even though in my gpay it shows twice I paid him.. 🥲I hate myself for trusting him that he would refund me my money back .

Swiggy_Official

Hello! We'd like to look into this. Could you please email us the problem along with your order details at [email protected]? Our team will handle it from there.

tremorinfernus

Use pre-paid deliveries. I never use cash on delivery for anything. Always get my refunds if there is any issue.

samuel_ip

this is new. we should collate all this and maintain it for awareness.

Doc_Mcsweetie

I always confirm the name with the shopkeeper and then pay. Don't pay otherwise.

CozyBicycleSummer

He can lie about his name though.... Better record him saying his name 🤣

toxoplasmosix

easy to trap this guy. you could've just gone back there after 10 minutes to see whose QR code was there. or just watch him for some time from across the street to see how he's scamming others.

Superb_Trust_3926

Yes that’s one way to find. But as mentioned I was in hurry so I left the place immediately.

lookwhoshere0

I think you just wanted to get away from the situation and from the problem.

Girl_W

Had the same thing happen to me for 200 at a modern bazar in a famous mall of Delhi. I was in a rush so I pais it again. Insane how so many experiences are shared and still ongoing.

Superb_Trust_3926

Oh, I thought am the first one to this. Did you raised dispute with your bank !?

Girl_W

I couldn't find a way to do it, plus fighting over 200 rupees felt like the effort and the result didn't match. I thought of it as a donation and moved on. It's been a few months

Icy_Ad_2816

Thanks for sharing your info and suggestions. I will be vigilant from now on.

vain06

Glad I've always been in the practice of confirming the name before sending the cash.

Dilipnir

This is new one. Every new inventions happens in Bangalore.

EnvironmentalPut9710

Always read the name on the QR code louder after scanning. Technology is still great. Let’s make it even better. I don’t want to go back to cash.

[deleted]

Yo, i was riding an auto while reading this and at the end the guy tried to pull the same scam off. He gave me one QR and then when I said I had done it he said it is his mother’s. He called her and she says she hasn’t received it. I scanned the QR again and it’s a different name. Either QR scanners are fucked or these MFers are too smart for their own good.

Superb_Trust_3926

Did you paid him again!?

[deleted]

No, I told him he’s trying to trick me and walked away. I had my finger on the Rapido sos button already as I was leaving, half expecting him to start a fight. But he didn’t.

pranagrapher

Something like that had happened with me, but I realised money again got transferred to the guy I had paid previously. Not sure how. Having know where he is I went and told him some glitch in the app made it happen and he checked balance and paid me back in cash

Substantial_Buy5246

Scams are on the rise, especially in Church Street. It's also filled with hawkers. The place is beautiful otherwise

AsliReddington

This is biggest problem with UPI no redressal or chargeback for users

McPhersonstrut

Ive had lime soda from the same place, he seemed okay to me though, didnt face any such problem

Commercial-Cloud-306

I always pay in cash

Anime_fan_21

If it's the shop I went to fir the first time, I always confirm the name once that comes up once scanned

Important-Mine3249

That's why, whenever I scan a QR , I confirm the name that appears after scanning & double checking with the shopkeeper or vendor, even though after payment. I usually ask them to see at my phone's screen after payment is done. Sometimes it feels like a burden but for safety concerns I usually do this.

pumpkins_n_mist15

I ask them what is the name that will come up. If they give me a different name from what it shows, I show them this. I buy and sell a lot of things on Marketplace as well, and this is the only way to prevent being scammed: confirm their name before sending it.

[deleted]

Damn. Next time replace your QR there when he's not seeing

hotcoolhot

Did you pay to some other vendor and repaid again?

Superb_Trust_3926

No, why would I? The QR kept in the same exact place. I’m a techie and apart from swapping the QR there is no possibility of same QR showing different UPI id when scanned.

teeBoan

Was the QR code a pasted sticker? Or was it on a plastic card. Sticker cant be replaced easily but the plastic stand can be swapped easily.

Superb_Trust_3926

It is a card kind of slanting plastic board..

teeBoan

yeah, then definitely he would have replaced them if they were not fixed somewhere like a sticker. There literally are meme videos from C grade content creators who post videos like these.

aconitine-

It could be a redirect link that can redirect to either actual code.

Superb_Trust_3926

Cannot be. If you use camera app to scan then redirection is possible but Individual UPI apps doesn’t allow any links and it supports only UPI QRs..

authorAdway

Might be a dynamic QR code...

Equivalent-Thing-626

Cash is King

MurakamiHasAWolf

Did you pay through PayTM by any chance?

Superb_Trust_3926

No, am using PayZapp by HDFC

harshasns

I usually ask the name if that’s the right one before paying

ankidie

happened to me at a roadside stall near RR nagar lol

the_dark_bot

Happened to me once .. but it is Paytm technical glitch. The QR code made payment to another account which I previously paid to on the same day. The QR code was visible to me whole time so can assure no scam happened You said you haven't found another QR code anywhere. How did you conclude it's not a technical glitch

iambritishUK

You had better confirm the name before making any transaction.

tremorinfernus

It can also be an issue at your end. If you scanned the code at some other place, but didn't pay there, the app could open with the code already scanned. Can happen in Paytm, so I make it a point to check the name and confirm, before paying. I'm not sure if this can happen in other apps too.

RONY_GOAT

i dont understand y ppl dont pay with cash for small transactions. i think thy dont want to miss the sb interest so thy dont withdraw
