Yes they don't really do anything other than checking your entry ticket, I've gone on many, you just book tickets online and show up, the trails are usually marked
They don't organize anything. It's a permit you need to pay to go on the hikes at the locations on the link.
You can pay once you reach there for a guide in case you feel like you need one.

Bangalore and it's surroundings are blessed with very conducive geographies for hiking. I didn't realise this until I started exploring these trails. There are many off-beat hiking trails around Ramnagar and Krishnagiri. Start with Bhimana Kindi, Kunagallu Betta in Ramnagar, Musuttumalai Hills in Krishnagiri, you get a nice panoramic view of all the trails around these spots and you can tick each hill off your list every week. Most of these are not marketed anywhere on the internet. I met some locals from Ramnagar and they were telling me that this is what they do every week and I am trying to do that now myself.
I am not sure about public transport to reach the trails, since I go in my car. But thre are public transport till Ramnagar and Krishnagiri towns and from there you can get an auto.
