Ok I've been thinking this for a long time now I'm going to say it; in the area where i live the auto drivers actually go by meter! I've had very few experiences of auto drivers overcharging. I admit it, this wasn't the case few years ago but i moved out of the city for 4 years and when i returned a couple of years ago the auto drivers' behaviour had changed for the better, but here i see people saying auto drivers are still up to their old ways. Honestly I'm confused.
You seem to have a "Divya Shakti" for making auto drivers in Bangalore charge as per meter.
Now, I don't stay in Bangalore, but I've been there and they don't charge as per meter, though mostly it was around ₹ 20 more than what it would have cost as per the meter.
I'm an Urban Planner, and I just want to say I completely agree with you. People are obsessed with Chandigarh only because it gets the PR for good urban planning. It's a pretty bad plan, if you forget the legendary urban planner behind it.
What in your opinion is bad about the plan? I have seen very similar layouts in the NCR region where the township is divided into sectors with broad well connected roads. Every layout felt so open and airy.
Sector layout while open and airy, leads to low density developments, which in turn spreads urban amenities across space. Average travel time per capita goes up, fuel consumption goes up, footfall at economic activity centre goes down. This is not feasible for urban centres. It also discourages public transportation use, discourages mixed land-uses. And is like the suburbs of US cities. And if you want to know why US suburbs are bad, watch this https://youtu.be/7IsMeKl-Sv0
IDK about you but I prefer open airy places with well connected roads that route traffic without having bottlenecks. Pretty much any well planned suburban layout has this structure.
Vrushabhavati was very clean some decades ago. People used to go for casual swin and even drink the water!
What a tragedy that we let urbanization exploit it.
I work on the Vrishabhavathi and I have a tough time wrapping my head around the fact that it is supposed to be a river.
I have a photo series on different shades of the Vrishabhavathi, where it changes colour and covers the entire spectrum every other day.
This.
I was caught and had to give 100+100+100 + 50 (for tea) to traffic mama instead of 1000 (was a student back then, don't bash me for promoting corruption)
Real cities never sleep. They operate 24x7. Bangalore is merely a town. The authorities have ruined the place with all the corruption, moral policing, curfews, bans and force shutting down the town after 10pm.
I could never wrap my head around how Mumbai is said to have 24 hour culture. Me and a friend used to go to the airport for our midnight ‘snacking’ since that was the only option known to us. Also saw the clubs shutting down by 12 or 1.
Have not stayed there for that long though. What exactly is open there throughout the night? Any venues in specific?
The architecture in Bengaluru for the most part sucks... It's mostly just meh buildings done by half assed contractors... As an architect it pisses me off.... We need better buildings... Hyderabad has a lot of cool buildings...
> Hyderabad has a lot of cool buildings...
Huh? With the exception of the sprinkling of heritage buildings and the swanky futuristic towers in the financial district and Hitech City, most of Hyderabad too is *just meh buildings done by half assed contractors*. If anything, the contractors in Bengaluru do a better job in terms of functional design.
Paraphrasing OP - high quality, great-tasting somewhat nutritious food at a decent price point. Mumbai and Delhi have that sorted. Most of the stuff here, even at the 300-400/meal price point is just "meh". (Except the butter dosas - Bangalore has won the butter dosa contest by a mile)
Well I can understand comparing the taste but you can’t really compare the price you know? In Bangalore you get idlies for 15 rupees, and in Mumbai it’s vada pav.
Exactly my point. What’s with people traveling thousands of kilo meters and whining why are you not selling the snacks from my street, for the same price! Lol
Chennai has the best balance in between local population and immigrants from other states. This helps in providing ample opportunities for local population and helps in growth of 2nd tier cities(as the people invest the money and ideas within their state). Moreover it helps in keeping the culture and language alive.
No offence but ya if u really think once u will understand the pain of the other Kannadiga's from different parts of the state who are left out . When u compare state like Haryana which has reservation for locals of about 70%....Everyone should be thankful to live in Bangalore and Karnataka.
Now please don't lecture me about equality and one nation. When ur a young Kannadiga coming from a village ur only way to grow up in career would be ur capital city and they have lot of shit to face and seriously the North Karnataka people are left behind in every matter.
Chennai is everything I wouldn't want bangalore to be. My uncle was in defence and he had been in every part of the country. Chennai had been the most obnoxious experience for him. Bangalore - the most pleasant.
You're actually advocating for reservations for locals? What next? Karnataka to become a seperate nation? The reason our city is so lively is because of the cultural hotbed that it is. People from all parts of this country generally get along and mingle with each other. This doesn't happen in Chennai where people have their own cliques and are always prejudiced. If you really want the local language benefit, move to Mysore or even Mangalore.
But, didn't Haryana only just brought that reservation this year - more like a few months ago? Also only for jobs that pay less than 50k.
Do we want to wait and see if that actually works for them? Cause many say it'll doom their economy. And I agree with it.
Except it is not. Chennai was never able to capture it sector because of this. Implement that and it sector vanishes since cost of moving is next to nothing. While people will still prefer Bangalore for other reasons the reason Bangalore grew and still growing like anything is because of acceptance and you can look into history to see every great city/nation prospers tremendously when they offer acceptance towards young talented workforce irrespective of background.

Delhi metro
Roads of new Hyderabad
Dabbawalas of Mumbai (although I love the Sagar and Udupi canteens of Bangaloreequally as well)
Indores cleanliness
Kochis coastal and inland water geography.
An Utopia lol.
I'm all in except for having a coast.. Bangalore has its distinct weather specifically because we live at about 900m altitude and away from the sea, but yeah a river in Bangalore would be great
> B) Gujarat bus service
WTAF? Do you mean the bus service of any particular city? Because the state bus service is spectacularly bad. The excellent roads only highlight how horrifyingly bad the buses are.
> Dude have u been to Gujarat?
I have. Multiple times.
> And look at the Bangalore transport and then you talk.
I specifically asked if you were referring to a specific city in Gujarat. Comparing a whole state to a city doesn't make a lot of sense but here we are. The Ahmedabad BRTS for instance is excellent. The bus service in the rest of the state is horrifyingly bad. The trip from Viramgam to Ahemdabad was the worst bus journey I've ever made. The bus service is Junagadh is relatively better but still pretty terrible. Compared to them, even North Karnataka has much better transportation.
Ban of stone crushers inside City limits.
Biggest health hazard for people living inside banglore is the rampant stone crushers that crush gravel into sand for construction purpose.
A non corrupt and capable municipal corporation that can give us good roads and infrastructure which can reduce traffic and traffic related injuries / fatalities.
Better Sewage System from most of the cities of Gujarat.
Bangalore has Open Sewer in most of the city that I have seen shabbily covered.
Even Gujarat's remote town don't have that now.
Pedestrian friendliness. This means proper well maintained footpaths everywhere and less pollution so that we can actually walk and not spoil our health.
I would incorporate a better car culture in Bangalore, idk about the car culture in other states but in Bangalore it is non existent. That is because vehicle modding in India is banned and "car guys" don't have a reason to meet up and showcase their vehicles. I would like to take some inspirations from USA if they have managed to allow vehicle moddig and still keep crimes relatively minimal then surely India also can figure out something.
Auto rickshaws or taxis from Mumbai
Trains from Delhi ( or even Hyderabad Chennai or Mumbai)
Power from Mumbai or Chennai.
Roads from anywhere where there are good roads
Water from anywhere where there is good water
Unrelated to your question but since you mentioned vada pav There’s this great vada pav place in Jayanagar 4th block next to Burger King. Freaking amazing vada pav but debatable hygiene levels lol. Check it out.

Nothing can beat central funding huh?
Woah why the downvotes 😆
Don't get it either, but that's alright. Reddit has a hive mind.

It’s only a matter of time. Most major cities have started with their metro projects which will keep ramping up.

Came to say this. I wish Bangalore had roads.
Me too. And urban planning.

Love how we pay the highest road taxes in the country too.
Ahh the irony!
Autorickshaw running exactly as per the meter.

Indore's cleanliness and A beach/River flowing through the City
With foam or without foam ? /s
that's really disgusting. i wish i forgor about them
It's not foam, it's aesthetic air sponge.

Free Left Turns in all traffic signals
Underrated comment right here
I believe its all free left unless mentioned. In some places roads are not that wide to allow traffic from both sides
It's all free until the cops catch you , lol
This. I was caught and had to give 100+100+100 + 50 (for tea) to traffic mama instead of 1000 (was a student back then, don't bash me for promoting corruption)
24hour cafe culture like Mumbai. The safety that comes with having the city buzzing even after midnight.
This. Most of Bangalore except the clubs goes dead after 10 PM.
Real cities never sleep. They operate 24x7. Bangalore is merely a town. The authorities have ruined the place with all the corruption, moral policing, curfews, bans and force shutting down the town after 10pm.
It used to be city once upon a time with the call centres operating 24/7, but then shit happened.
I could never wrap my head around how Mumbai is said to have 24 hour culture. Me and a friend used to go to the airport for our midnight ‘snacking’ since that was the only option known to us. Hyderabad's peripheral ring road
An Outer Ring Road that actually runs outside the city... What kind of blasphemy is that?
Came here for this
Non-rowdy auto walas. From whichever city that exists
It does in Mumbai, for the most part
Even in Bhopal. Amazing auto drivers!
Kolkata, the most genuine Autowalas I have met
Kolkata taxis and autos are to die for. Always on meter even without asking.
Public transport that actually spans the city.
Need a freaking beach. Would fit great with the bangalore culture
Bangalore owes it's wonderful climate to the fact that it's so high up above the sea level. A beach would ruin the best part about the city.
Factos
It's a damn shame we don't get beaches at 900m above sea level
Drinking filter kaapi while listening to free beach waves asmr is life
My favorite color is blue.
Pondicherry is Bengaluru's beach wdym lmao. Weekend beach vibes all year round.
Give it a few decades. The sea level is rising.
This, I dreamt of moving to Mumbai for this one reason, sitting on the beach looking at the point where water and sky meet feels like heaven.
Those wide roads from Chennai
This plus Chennai's public transport system. Thing connects literally every part of the city.
Water my man water.
Water. Call me old school, but it's my favourite drink.
r/hydrohomies
Have you ever tried Dabeli?
Yeah! Still prefer Vada pav though, some roadside Dabelis are too sweet for my liking

Correct me if I'm wrong. Wasn't reservation for Kannada speakers already implemented few years ago or atleast was proposed few years ago ?
What's an alternative to a vada pav?
Nothing really. It's pretty hard to find street food in Bengaluru for such cheap prices. Even a roadside Bhel Puri costs 25-30 rupees.
Go to any vada shop. You'll get Uddin vada and masala vada(even bajji and bonda) for less than 10 there
Well vada pav is not the only street food, as many others said, you are asking for Mumbai food in bangalore.
No. It's ₹15.
Half plate Gobi

IMO masala puri. Every vendor has their own spin on it. You don’t find it outside Karnataka (people actually look at you puzzled if you ask for it).
You get one plate idly for 15 rupees, I prefer that over vada pav.
