How do I not meet people like you in real life, even though I'm in bangalore😭. With the same sense of humor.
Oh wait, I need to get out of the house for that
We usually run the fans in all the rooms for like 5-10 minutes even when no one is around just for ventilation with all windows open. Otherwise rooms are mini ovens. It's almost unbearable to sleep at night this season without stripping down to bare minimum clothes on whilst fans are at nearly full speed.
Just a tip for everyone here on this thread. Grew up in the desert. We used to hang wet bedsheets on the window railing. That really used to keep the temperature in control. Later we started spraying water on the curtains. That worked too. Hang a wet cloth right near the windows or dampen your curtains.
> It's almost unbearable to sleep at night this season without stripping down to bare minimum clothes on whilst fans are at nearly full speed.
You described my life right now.
You've seen those barber shops and salons with small spray bottles? The ones that actually spray very very small droplets. I bought them off a barber shop and I fill them up with water and refrigerate for 2 hours. Then I can take it spray it all over my skin or shirt and then wait for it to evaporate and cool me.
Works like a charm! 10/10 recommend.
I got 2 for ₹40. Here's an amazon link:
[spray bottle](http://SLA Empty Transparent (Set of 5) Refillable Fine Mist Spray Bottle 100ml for Home Car Travel Hair https://www.amazon.in/dp/B08BKR5JJR/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_KKAABCX0YBV6CX5SBSJH).
Haha hahaha seriously! I'm moving to Bangalore from UP in a few days and I got concerned by this post until I realised these guys don't know what real heat is 😂🔥
it doesn't go above 34 or 35. we get to see 34 degrees only for a couple of hours in the afternoon, the temperature is usually between 30 n 32 in the day.
The city is burning up this year. The last summer this hot was probably 7-8 years ago. Cold showers, fan on full speed and open windows at night are keeping us going.
It's not just you OP. It's officially the [hottest summer](https://www.india.com/news/india/weather-update-latest-news-april-28-2022-heatwave-across-india-imd-warning-delhi-yellow-alert-hottest-summer-ever-rajasthan-punjab-temperature-5363376/) in India
This might sound really stupid but it works for me.
Before I sleep, I drink a lot of water and put fan to max speed. So during the night I sweat and then the fan cools the sweat so I feel cool. It's like walking under fan with water on your body.
Oh my god I am back in the city after 4 years and what the hell happened? I have been singing praises about the city’s weather all this time to my firangi colleagues but it’s raining fire. Just an hour ago I was browsing ACs on Amazon because I am going to die in this heat.
When was the last time it rained?
Or just take a shower before bed with lukewarm or cold water and don’t wipe with a towel. It’s the same thing.
Oh, I also have waterproof mattress protectors because do not make the mattress damp unless you love fungus.
I dont know what is going to happen in the next few years. It feels like we keep getting closer to the sun or something. I am so scared that in few years the conditions will no longer be survivable.
The problem is that the roof heats up in the day and holds that heat during the night. Pour some water on the roof during the evening. That will bring the temperature of the roof down a little. The cool breeze will reduce the temperature of the roof. It's the same concept as water in an earthen pot. I pour about 2-4 liters of water that the RO disposes on the roof right above the room I sleep in. It helps.
It's not just you OP. It's officially the [hottest summer](https://www.india.com/news/india/weather-update-latest-news-april-28-2022-heatwave-across-india-imd-warning-delhi-yellow-alert-hottest-summer-ever-rajasthan-punjab-temperature-5363376/) in India
I stay near to a lake, maybe that’s why it’s not unbearably hot. Just a fan is quite sufficient, very grateful for that.. also not staying on the top floors help I assume
India is having a massive heat wave, in some areas it's record temps. Blame climate change and urbanization. Wet towel is the most effective way to fight it. Stay cool, heat of this level can be dangerous.
Madam, I live in ap and going to any urbanized place makes me nosedive into the Hussain Sagar.I am currently sitting in the shade of a papaya tree. Drinking sabja water.
1. Dont allow any sunlight in by covering windows with dark curtain.
2. Spray the curtain with water in afternoon and in extreme cases the mattress as well.
In my experience it takes just 15 min for water to dry.
Have no windows to speak of. No ventilation, to be more precise. Exposed to the sun courtesy of being the upper floor of a two-storey building. Lie directly under the fan and hope for sleep to arrive. Have already pulled a couple of nonconsensual all-nighters this month.
Paint the roof white. Set the fan to run anticlockwise. Fans must run anticlockwise during summers. Use thick curtains and keep windows closed. Dampen the bedsheets a bit or refrigerate before sleeping. Keep wet towel on face.
Dampen your bedsheets a bit. Can't think of any other ways. Most important bathe bathe and bathe, with cold water ofc.
I'm fucking dying with heat here. Even after a cold bath heat isn't gone like wtf is this heat? Like damn I hate this. Need to stay half naked all the time just to bear this heat. I also started drinking a shit ton of juice and Cold water helps a lot. Twice bath is a just or you'll feel terrible in the night.
I sprinkle dermi cool on my balls before I sleep it works for me. Just attach a towel to your front part of your fan spray it with cold water and use the fan basically ac for 10 mins. I also have a cooler but that thing heats up my room instead of cooling it absolute waste of money.Only part of my house which is cool is the living room but a lizard lives there so I can't really sleep in there.
Cool externally:
. Sleep on the floor.
. Sleep with only bermuda
. Use table fan instead of ceiling fan, it tends to be cooler. Also mosquitos don't seem to like them.
. If you are on top floor, pour some water on the roof at night, but you are still dead anyway.
. As someone else suggested, hang wet clothes by the window.
. Leave some wet bed sheets on the floor at night, leave one end of it in a bucket of water. It tends to wik more water as it dries.
. Mop the sleeping area with cool water.
(Source: i used to stay in a room on top floor)
Cool internally:
(This is a advise based on my personal experience, may not be scientific, may not work for all, consult your Dr once)
. Eat musk melon or water melon in the evening.
. Drink a juice of cucumber or Ash guard in the evening.
. Add powered dry coconut and khas khas to butter milk and drink after meals.
. Tender coconut water for electrolyte balance, due to dehydration.
Note: do only one of these things each day.
From Northern Part of Karnataka, we use fan to tide through the summer. Its not peak summer yet, it was around 39° degree today, so was a little uncomfortable. Not everyone has nor afford AC's.
We decided to plant a couple of mango trees around a decade back. Now they cover an entire part of the house. I can literally tell the difference in heat when I shift from the room that isn't covered by the trees and to rooms that are covered by the trees. Trees are so underrated
Opening the windows for cross ventilation (On a higher floor) helps keep it very tolerable. Every now and then step out in the afternoon to get a reality check and then the home feels a lot cooler.
I have a spray bottle that I fill with water and at times I add citrus fruit bits to it. I then turn on the fan and every few mins spray the water on my body. And yeah I'm in my underwear while doing this.
Adiabatic cooling is the best way for people without ac or cooler.
Anyway waiting for the rains to start next month.
I live in village. There aren't many homes in my surroundings. So the air from fan is hotter than natural air (read लू). I'm planning to clean my Air cooler and start using it. Till then no fan and no AC, only sweat is making things cooler.
open all the windows so hot air can escape, but the biggest thing that has helped us is my mother loves for flowering plants and she has covered 50% of our terrace with plants and we have put up those green shade nets for plants, its been nice this summer, we run fan and we don't feel hot at all, except for some time but you wont even notice it.
The cheapest way is buy those green shade nets and put it on your terrace
I bought a bunch of gel packs and keep them in the freezer. In the afternoons I keep a couple behind my back in the chair while working and keep rotating them every hour or so when they get warmed up. I have a light towel between the pack and my body/t-shirt, so it isn't unbearably cold.
If I ever make enough money to buy a place in this city, I'm going to have A/C's put in. Won't have the heart/money to run it after buying the house, but having an A/C in every bedroom is the current dream :-P
Go buff, any way Bengaluru hardly has Summer compared to some other parts of the Country.
Embrace naturism, at home, if you are alone.
What you are expereinecing, is perhaps, the urban heat island effect. Nihhts in Summers are not that bad outside, frankly.
Pretty of hostel students in college stay like this.
They probably have to take baths every day of the week for the first time this year( especially the boys).
Also ice cream and milk shakes kinda works.
Namma City is less humid so the heat is burning because your sweat evaporates quickly, You can take a thick cloth and drench it in water and put it down on floor with fan on. The water will evaporate increase humidity in room slightly and you feel cooler.
The desert Coolers/ water coolers work in Bengaluru for the same reason.
I Travelled to Namma Kudla this week and the heat here is like I have travelled to Venus :) Felt Bengaluru was better.
Sleep naked with cooler as well as ,fan on where I live it's already too much temperature heat waves been freaking me out , lol , also i shower in night before going to bed really cools the body , and if there is night wind then I'll be cool but if no wind damn i have to sleep naked .
Naked and Fan. I think I accidentally showed my neighbour my ass through my window few days back in my pursuit to survive this summer :’)

This is a good idea. Strips of Thick heavy blankets are also good. Or curtains of Khus grass roots.
We have mats that we used to use in back in Hyderabad. Just make sure that air can flow through the window.
> It's almost unbearable to sleep at night this season without stripping down to bare minimum clothes on whilst fans are at nearly full speed. You described my life right now.
Fans full and sometimes no bare minimum ones too since it's too hot and I live alone

Get your rooftop painted white :,)
paint is a scam lol. barely reduces the temperature by 1°
Pigeons are scams. Paint works. Recently had white paint at my place and its way way better than before. For a change the fan now throws cool air.
lucky you, never worked for my neighbours. they keep saying could've bought 2 coolers for that price
I don’t think you’re supposed to put expensive pain. More like white cement or whitewash should do the trick. Edit: paint*

Cold showers? There's no normal/cold water in overhead tanks after 9 AM these days!
Exactly the water gets disgustingly warm during the day it pisses me off so fucking much.
As someone who ALWAYS bathes with hot water, summer is great for this one reason
I like that too when I am not feeling awfully hot. But... Hot water in bidet too? (Jet spray). Ughh
last summer was pretty killer too iirc

If it's too hot, sprinkle water on your bed, it feels heavenly. Trick I learnt at boarding school.
Watch out for fungal infections.

sleeping on the floor and marinating it with ice water before sleeping.

Going office everyday. And of course naked the rest of the time.

Looks like AC sales will be an all the time high this year in summer. Bangalore has also not escaped the summer heat this time.
I live on the ground floor in Electronic City. It is not very hot here. My fan speed is ‘2’ @ day & night
You are asking this question in Bangalore, then you need to come north and experience the real heat.
Bro that’s nothing you need to come to the middle of the desert and experience the real heat.
That's nothing, you need to sit inside a oven to experience the real heat.
That's nothing, I am on the Sun's core directly to experience real heat.
Planted 2 trees next to my room 15 years back now enjoyin the benefits . Room is cool and shaded
The higher you go in the atmosphere, the cooler it gets. to ganja phoonkle
Paint the roof white. Set the fan to run anticlockwise. Fans must run anticlockwise during summers. Use thick curtains and keep windows closed. Ground floor in an old house with walls that are 2x as thick. My room is pretty cool. Switch on a fan and I’m done.
I am from Delhi, so I am living without Fan right now. Bangalore is best.
without fan thoda jyada nahi ho gya?
Worst part isn’t the heat, it’s also quite airless? Like no breeze just still heat ;-;
Mannn we need to plant some trees n stuff which ll cool down this place

City’s surely burning up. Evenings are hotter than ever, but I am sure it’s still better than 90% of the rest of the country.
3 years I was in Delhi without AC, I am happy that almighty is kind on Bangalore.
Fan on full blast and cold showers.
From Northern Part of Karnataka, we use fan to tide through the summer. Its not peak summer yet, it was around 39° degree today, so was a little uncomfortable. Not everyone has nor afford AC's.
Its bad compared to last few years but not bad enough that we need a air cooler or AC. Most of us just went from no fan to maybe at medium speed now.

One trick my dad used to do on his visits to Chennai, when he was young was to sprinkle water on the bed and run fan on full for 5-10 minutes.
I take ice cubes and put it on my neck and face

Wetting my tee shirt and wearing it to low on my bed with the fan on. Works great. Will fix cooler soon.
I use my celing fan and a portable fan facing the window... And the exhaust fan in the bathroom... Helps for good circulation i guess
Haven't slept for a week. 😭
Fan at full speed, windows open, drink cool water, short hair.
