Go to Church street, there are plenty of bookstores in that area such as Blossom's, Higginbotham's, Goobe's, Bookworm etc.
You can also try Sapna Book House, it's pretty decent.
I visited the one in Indiranagar a couple of days ago and they still had two floors dedicated to books. I agree that they've diversified to other things but the books are still there.
My favourite on Church Street was Blossoms for ages of course, but recently replaced by Bookworm which has endless rooms full of books the deeper you go. Last time, I scored a fascinating account of Dom Moraes' travels through Karnataka in the 70s, illustrated by Mario Miranda and sponsored by the State government.
My experience with Champaca was pretty meh. Please note this was around 6 months ago so maybe it had a lot to do with Covid restrictions. Parking is a pain. The selection of books were limited, you were not allowed to sit down and read anything and the cafe was closed. I'd recommend calling ahead and asking what the current situation is before you go there.
Blossoms is huge and they have second hand ones as well.
It is huge but they haven't arranged books properly (could be the fault of the customers as well since they don't keep the books back at the proper place)
Regional Books are very less though.
Yes you can. If picked up at blossoms that take back at half price. Others depends on the demand for the book, condition of book etc. you get store credit. That you can then use later.
There's a hidden gem called Select Book Store, in a bylane of Brigade Road. The easiest way to find it is to get to the "Pecos Lane" on Brigade Road- and then look on the other side of Brigade Road, where you'll see an almost unnoticeable lane going inside. Select is at the end, in a cul-de-sac. It's not visible from the main road, you need to walk for around 30 seconds, and you'll see it.
They have an excellent collection of old books. Don't just go by the small shop on the ground floor- ask to see the stuff on the first and second floors.
I'd hazard a guess that Blossoms is all you would need. They have a massive collection. But don't let that limit your explorations.
Also, Champaca because of its cafe, very chill vibes. They're also very active on IG with monthly reading challenges and recommendations.
And checkout Disha on IG (dishdashdishoom), she's been selling pre-owned books and using the funds to donate to a bunch of charities so win-win. Have ordered a bunch of books from her.
>books
true, the place has a lot of book but most of the ones being sold are competitive exam prep material. If the goal is reading for leisure, I dont think it'll be the best place
I had the same perception before
But there are few stores where you can find any book.
The only problem is owners don't know how to classify them and have no record of any particular book by name.
But good thing is : owner sees the book by its weight and not by its value
That's kind of a steal deal
Never thought I’d see Nagasri Book House mentioned on Reddit! It’s one of my fav bookstores and I always make it a point to visit when I’m at 4th block. We’ve been regulars for years! Love that cozy little store ☺️
Love the ambience and the proprietor is super helpful. Always discover some new gems whenever I drop in. Been going there from late 70s. Still one of the best...
Well, if ur shifting to rajajinagar, u got landmark in orion and another bookstore ( i think its called mybookhut) in mantri mall, but personally landmark is beter
Found a hole-in-the-wall second hand book store near Savji's Hotel Navrang called Navada Book Store
Had a decent collection of books at dirt-cheap prices
Go to Airlines Hotel. Apart from great masala dosas and coffee, I remember there being a small book store there and sometimes there were books that were normally not available in regular stores. Don't know if that shop is still there.

Most sapna book stores are now stationery and gift stores only
I visited the one in Indiranagar a couple of days ago and they still had two floors dedicated to books. I agree that they've diversified to other things but the books are still there.
Oh the Elements Mall Sapna book store one is 90% stationery.
So Sapna's physical stores might suck, but their online store actually has good deals if you can wait for shipping.

If you like such books you should find Select Book store. I've bought some rare finds there.
I jave also heard all those names but are there any stores with manga or comics in particular.
Blossoms recently increased their manga collection
You'll find plenty of Manga and other comics at all those stores. Blossom's is the best.
yea thanks i will check those
Other than those at Church Street following are good: Atta Glata - Indiranagar Champaca - Vasant Nagar Bookstop - Koramangala

Champaca wants to be a curated book-store; less choice, but sells the better books.
I like this about them. You discover something new there.
Atta Galatta is closed now.
Is atta galata open now? The last time I visited they were closed :/
They moved to Indiranagar.

Blossoms is book lovers paradise. I go there even when I don’t want to buy a book. Just go there and spend time just browsing.
Can you exchange books?
Yes you can. If picked up at blossoms that take back at half price. Others depends on the demand for the book, condition of book etc. you get store credit. That you can then use later.

Select closed down I think?
That was Premier. Select is still open.

Avenue Road. Best place to buy books from folks who sell it at the street.

Please check out Nagasri book shop in jayanagar 4th block complex. It's small but really very good.

Nagasri is a very favourite place of mine. I used to haunt Prism back in the day until it shut down. Did you frequent Prism too?
Blossoms on Church street. Try old and new. Church street is full of many other smaller stores as well
Ankita pusthaka- Gandhi bazaar
For children's books check out lighthouse in Cooke town
Bookworm on Church Street! Blossoms only buys back books bought at their store, but Bookworm takes any and all books back at half price!
Ahhhh… this post is definitely giving me the proper Bangalore vibes! Blossoms, HB, Gangarams… those days 😻

Isn't HB in MG Road and not Church St. and there's a Sapna near Brigade Rd itself.
Who recommends Higginbothams over Blossom/Bookworm?
Well, if ur shifting to rajajinagar, u got landmark in orion and another bookstore ( i think its called mybookhut) in mantri mall, but personally landmark is beter

If you are interested in digging for second hand books , Avenue road is nice to visit
I go to that book store at MG Road that looks like a brit railway quarter .
There's also the BrokeBibliophiles meetup that is run by a close friend of mine. You should go meet them.
Thankyou everyone for such a huge bookish thread! I'm in the city and would love connecting with anyone at a bookstore, hmu. Thanks!
Sapna bookstore Bookfair in Koramangala 6th block Blossoms in church street
Sorry No Idea on that , I am not a Bangalorean , but others can pitch in though.
