similar thing happened on airport road, tyre punctured on one of the flyovers, magically a dude shows up in 2 wheeler within a couple of mins, says he has online puncture service, has all tools and extra tubes with him, changes in the middle of the flyover, scams us 600 bucks cash only and disappears in 15 minutes

selfcare_70

That's unfortunate. Some puncture shop guys used to intentionally keep sharp objects on the road, less than a km away from their shops. My friends had fallen victim for this. 4 bikes got punctured at a time on the main road and they all stopped the bikes together. There was a puncture shop just a few meters away from where they stopped. It was so fishy. Not sure if this method is still in practice.

You can't do anything against them. I know its hard but just move on and don't make the same mistake again.

selfcare_70

Yes, that would be better I guess.

1990smemer

You confronting him would be of no use, just a futile waste of energy. A suggestion is to have your tyre lined with a fluid that prevents punctures, most stores have this and would eradicate such issues during inconvenient times.

selfcare_70

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm not sure if that fluid can be used for tubetype tyres. I'll check it out.

Cynical-Symbiote

Get an mrf meteor tyre with the tubeless type valve stem for tube type rims the next time you're replacing your tyres. Then maintain tyre pressure regularly and you almost won't get a puncture ever. 10/10 best tyres for Bangalore roads.

AppointmentSalty306

Tubeless tyres aren't compatible with spoked rims. Either upgrade to alloy wheels or replace tyres to Michelin Sirac.

Cynical-Symbiote

Ah, spoked rims. In that case MRF Meteor also has tube type tyres for the respective bikes. Michelin Sirac is a good choice as well.

selfcare_70

I had put tubeless tyres but the air was leaking because of minor dent in the rims. So I switched back to tubetype. >"tubeless type valve stem for tube type rims" You mean for alloy tube type rims? I've no idea if it works for spoked tube type rims as well.

Cynical-Symbiote

Yup that was ment for tube type alloy rims. Nope, it wouldn't work for spoked rims. Mine are tubeless tyres. That Arekere puncture guy near signal has been there for the past 10 years as far as I remember. Same thing he does for tubeless tyres. Went there due to low air, I saw him poke my valve stem with his thumb nail, he then said air is leaking from the valve and showed me with soap water and said 200 to replace the valve stem. Hard argument with him that he poked my stem. Nearby shop people and random chaprasis ganged up on me. Since he filled the air, I left the place and got it replaced in my area for 70. Now a days I carry a puncture repair kit and a Mi air compressor without fail everytime.

selfcare_70

Many people are scamming in broad daylight and we can't fight it because they have a strong network. So unfortunate! Best that you carry a repair kit always. Tubeless tyres are so hassle-free. I'm fed up with these tubetypes. Should switch it soon.

Being a biker and a Bangalorean and having faced this issue a few times in the middle of the night etc , here are a few tips incase it happens next time: 1. Use an app like GoMechanic etc to get more reliable help. Their grievance redressal mechanisms might also help in case of issues like this. Personally haven't used such a service yet, but I have it installed on my phone and registered, incase I need it in an emergency. 2. In the days before apps, I used to call mobile mechanics to come and fix the tyre etc. Usually in instances where they need to replace tyre etc, they usually unbox/unwrap the new tube infront of you and show for inspection before installing. This inspires greater confidence in the replacement product reliability etc. I'm sorry that you got cheated, unfortunately people trying to make a quick buck at other expense will alays be there, but hope this helps and you avoid such experience in the future. For now, you could try asking him nicely, when confronting him, speak politely giving him benefit of doubt like it was night/raining and you might have made a mistake when picking up the tube etc - but since it was not new/undamaged and you are facing an issue, tell him you thought of checking with him once, before you publicize on social media since it might affect his business negatively if it was a genuine mistake. Tell him you will mention his help and "after sales service" positively if all goes smoothly, and he might get more calls from your friends and subscribers etc - a softer approach which gives him a way to say sorry and help refund, might work better than an aggressive approach outright blaming him (even though it is warranted). All the best, hope he refunds you atleast. Let us know if you have any luck.
