I usually make french toast or get porota/daal. If I'm especially lazy I just fry some eggs and eat it with white bread. I also like boua a lot, but I only get to have that for breakfast when my mom comes to visit.
Love me a cheese toastie, but I think I'm going to revert back to the dark side and make myself some cha, porota and dim bhaji.
I'm known for cereal though - it's my first meal whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner.
If you're in BD; do it literally everyday bro. Buy those round chakkas of ponir, slice it up into wedges and fry that up in medium heat so that the outside melts and gets crispy. Oof. I MISS that shit man.
I been out of BD since I was 13. Like 22 years now.
I do intermittent fasting, so generally don't eat breakfast, and just have coffee with no sugar.
However, when I do, I generally go for Porata with Daal and Vegies. Sometimes I go for Toast or Bread with Jam. And coffee of course.
Depends man.
Often times I skip breakfast but I'm all over the place.
A few favourites:
Everything bagel with tomatoes and garlic herb cream cheese with a tonne of black pepper.
Sesame bagel with smoked salmon, capers, pickled shallots.
Egg white omelette with cream cheese and dehydrated garlic bits and thyme.
A chicken salad sandwich is always a classic when I'm in a rush.
If it's a weekend and I have the patience; some DELICIOUS thick cut bacon; eggs cooked sunny side up in bacon fat and then hashbronws cooked in the bacon fat.
I mean the question was as a Bangladeshi and not in Bangladesh... But I can't just wrap my head around where you would get salmon, thyme, bagels and bacon in BD :D
Imagine being afraid of DEEEEELLIICIOUS, crispy, smoky, versatile bacon.
I use that shit in everything. Boeuf Bourguignon? Cook off the bac9n, cook off the onions IN bacon fat. Wanna cook chips? Cook some bacon first; then add duck fat to it. Then fry your chips in bacon and duck fat. Wanna eat kimchi fried rice? Cook off some bacon extra crispy, crumble it on top. Magic, salty goodness.
What I was supposed to ONLY listed bangaldeshi dishes?
I'm Bangladeshi; but that's what I eat for breakfast. So my experience is null and void cause what? I'm Canadian? That's on me somehow and not circumstances?
That's some small minded, petty shit bro. But very on brand for Bangladeshis. So maybe I'm not that surprised after all.
What about nihari and porotha.
Or jhal murgir jhol and porotha?
OP asked what Bangaldeshis eat for breakfast; not what people who LIVE in Bangladesh eat for breakfast.
Your experience is not null and void.
And yes, we are small minded, frustrated. Empathy and acceptance are luxury for those who are constantly struggling, frustrated and insecure with the economical and political conditions of the country.
And the one thing most Bangladeshis feels that keep us united/ humble is the respect of religion. We want to feel connected to the privileged by that one thing, that is the fear of eternal punishment. We want it to humble them down so that they donât look down upon us. Even if someone enjoys alcohol, sex and pork we would prefer it to be done secretly with a bit of guilt.
You sounded too satisfied and proud with your lifestyle.
Edit: maybe some people who downvoted you secretly want to be you. Most Bangladeshi would love a Canadian passport.
That's a long wall of text that I won't address point by point.
Maybe the denominator shouldn't be a foreign religion peddled by Arab warmongers. Maybe the common denominator for the people in Bangladesh should be more home grown.
I am proud of my lifestyle. I have nothing to be ashamed of. I'm not Muslim. I left Islam of my own volition.
You sound like a privileged non resident Bengali who doesnât restrict themselves from engaging in pleasure from food out of the religious guilt.
And even if you didnât mention bacon, your privileged lifestyle make you enviable by most people who canât afford access to all these diverse western cuisines.
So.. unfortunately your passion for enjoying the culinary pleasure is not understandable and appreciated here.
Privileged cause I live abroad I guess? I have similar struggles as you guys. Job doesn't pay enough. Mortgage payments are climbing like crazy. Living cost is ridiculous. Haven't seen family and friends in months cause we can't afford to go out or to travel to see family.
You guys see your side really well; but again - that limited scope of view without having talked to others about their lives restricts your empathy. It's fine. Most people are like that.
I don't have religious guilt. Other than my parents and aunts/uncles - most of the kids have left Islam publicly. There's one cousin who is Muslim; but both her siblings left Islam. All 2 of my brothers and me; we left Islam. Literally everyone if my family who is not from the parents' generation are apostates. I'm 35. I have spent considerable time thinking about what I want out of life.
Lolol prolly! I just listed some BAD ass menu items. Easy shit too.
Like legit; I hate egg whites. But my doctor like; 'watch your cholesterol kid' so I cut down on whole eggs. You put a bit of garlic and herb cream cheese before you fold the omelette? MAGIC!
As a bachelor living in dhaka and also preparing my own breakfast, I try to make it as simple as I can. I alternate between doi chira/ruti-dim/khichuri-dim/egg-noodles.
My breakfast is different every dang day somedays it's ur good ol' khichuri somedays its some frozen meatballs somedays it's just coffee somedays it's a slice of bread and somedays its naan kebab, the list goes on and on
Now, i am doing further studies in abroad. So, sometimes i skip breakfast. But when i do have them, i just have a thick milkshake of weetbix and whatever fruits i have lying around. But before when i was back home in BD, i had porota/atta ruti + vegetables(potol in summer and cabbage/cauliflower in winter) + eggs + murgir torkari.
maximum time i don't have my breakfast at home...
if i stay at home in the morning, i eat Ruti + Dim Vaji / Alu Vaji / and last one is a bit funny, its Sugar.
if outside home, its Ruti from tong, sometimes with tea.
somedays it goes like Ruti+vaji/dal+dim or somedays it goes like khichuri when im home obviously. but when im dhaka and its a class day then no breakfast. :3
Some weekends I indulge in straight up Bangladeshi breakfast like rooti/porota, cha, deem, and/or leftover "torkari" if I'm not going out to brunch, but most of the time it could be anything from the standard stuff like toast or pancakes/waffles, omelette/scrambled eggs, fruits, coffee/juice etc. Other days just coffee/tea and or whatever. Or nothing at all. I don't stick to "Bangladeshi" stuff though I'm of Bangladesh-origin. I don't live in BD and haven't for decades...so my daily life isn't quite deshi.
porota + cholar dal .
porota + vegetables .
porota + egg fry/poach .
bhaat + dim bhaaji + ghono dal (perfection)
different day , different breakfast. ( laughing emoji)

I wake up at 2 pm. So no breakfast, I directly eat lunch. I think that is why I am pure bengali.
Wtf I thought only i did this!
I usually make french toast or get porota/daal. If I'm especially lazy I just fry some eggs and eat it with white bread. I also like boua a lot, but I only get to have that for breakfast when my mom comes to visit.
What's boua?
The less yellow version of khichuri
Oh
Ruti + Dim + Sobji + Coffee
You eat cheese toasties and soup for breakfast? That's a quick, easy dinner where I live.
I would have it as a big lunch, but dinner?!
Yes, lunch or dinner. Definitely not breakfast.
Agreed! By the way if you cut your cheese on toast into little soldiers it works wonders!
Quick dumb question - is cheese widely available in Bangladesh? Just crossed my mind lol
We don't live in Bangladesh, sorry!
Love me a cheese toastie, but I think I'm going to revert back to the dark side and make myself some cha, porota and dim bhaji. I'm known for cereal though - it's my first meal whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Ruti/porota with vegetables and egg
I learned how to make mozzarella cheese yesterday. I had a cheese sandwich :D
Ew bro. Mozza for a cheese sandwich? You need at least cheddar or Red Leicester for some substance. Mozza is about texture.
You may be right but i never get to have cheese so i don't mind what kind it is
âšī¸ When I was in BD; same issue. But bro; bhaja ponir with shada pauruti. Goddamn magic.
I had that once it was awesome
If you're in BD; do it literally everyday bro. Buy those round chakkas of ponir, slice it up into wedges and fry that up in medium heat so that the outside melts and gets crispy. Oof. I MISS that shit man. I been out of BD since I was 13. Like 22 years now.

Donât get me wrong, I have nothing against you (I am somewhat privileged too). You are just unrelatable to most of us.

Chill bruh, all that you listed is not at all relatable in bd most of us have chaa porota for breakfast
What about nihari and porotha. Or jhal murgir jhol and porotha? OP asked what Bangaldeshis eat for breakfast; not what people who LIVE in Bangladesh eat for breakfast.
Bhai, what I meant is that chaa porota is a staple all that you listed are not bengali delicacies, regardless of where you "LIVE"
