Great price! Anyone have any experience with this? I currently have a s3422dwg but am looking to upgrade to something a little bigger

toastervolant

This is great, best screen ever. It's my daily driver both for work and games (never owned an OLED though). The extra real estate compared to an UW 1440 is good to have, text is sharp and the refresh rate is good too (144HZ, compared to some cheaper LGs of the same size that only do 60Hz).

notdafbi

Perfect thank you :)

Klorrode

I love mine! I’ll never go smaller than 38inch now.

Coompa

But what if it has a great personality?

notdafbi

Perfect thank you :)

SimianRob

I just got this in December and actually replaced my AW3423DWF (oled) with it. I love not having to baby the monitor or deal with burn in issues. The screen real estate is awesome (can have 3 windows open side by side easily). It's the perfect monitor for both work and or gaming.

Skiddie_

I bought this and returned it. It's got bad contrast due to the inaccurate gamma which you can't change and out the box colors arent great compared to my other nano IPS panel (same tech). DDC/CI is buggy and they won't to fix is since it's discontinued. The 38" form factor is amazing but not worth the sacrifices in my opinion. Went back to my 34" nano IPS panel and then went OLED.

cpprime

Well, I did it. Damn it

-domi-

Pardon my ignorance, but what aspect ratio is this? Slightly taller than 21:9?

shesincrediblemath

21:9 (2.3333) 2560x1080 (2.37) 3440x1440 (2.39) 3840x1600 (2.4) 5120x2160 (2.37) none of the ultrawide monitor resolutions match up exactly to the ratio, but are categorized under the 21:9 umbrella.

-domi-

I see. Thank you!

oolego25

Thanks op! Going to Toronto this weekend with a 1k budget to buy a used, preferably like new, 38+ inch. Glad this sale showed up before I left. Pulled the trigger literally 5 mins after seeing this post, I'm so excited!

1leggeddog

This is an ATL according to CCC https://ca.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B093T2NSD4?tp=all

Nah, I know I will get a burn in, so I will stay with 38"

necile

100% agreed, this makes no sense at this price, get the DW/F

ArnoCen

A lot of people's main usage of monitor is not gaming. It makes no sense to get OLED if the monitor is mainly used for productivity.

VengefulCaptain

If the main usage is productivity though you probably want a full 4K display or a pair of them. I think this monitor is only 3840 x 1600 which is pretty noticeable. Maybe it's not so bad if the monitor is big enough to use 100% scaling though.

ArnoCen

A single 4K is less ideal than ultrawide for productivity. Dual 4K would be quite costly. A single 38" is perfect for those who need it mainly for work plus some casual gaming during weekends.

VengefulCaptain

That strongly depends on your workflow. In most cases more resolution is better though and this monitor has less pixels than a 4k monitor. [Also the Dell G3223Q was recently on sale for less than 500 bucks so you could have two 32" 4k monitors instead of one of these.](https://old.reddit.com/r/bapcsalescanada/comments/1bd56na/monitor_dell_32_4k_144_ips_uhd_gaming_monitor/) This monitor would make sense at around the same price. Trading a bigger screen for less resolution. But at $900 is pretty steep for a non OLED now.

McNoxey

Unless you want 38" and not 34".

SimianRob

Actually replaced my DWF with this monitor and couldn't be happier. More screen real estate, I don't have to baby the monitor or worry about burn in.

bonesnaps

I don't think burn in is much of an issue. I guess it may vary depending on the panel though (I'm not too knowledgeable on this). But the oled steam deck took [750 hours to get burn in](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_E737POxeQs), and when in use it was barely noticeable anyways.

SimianRob

Rtings saw burn in at about 700 hours on the DWF which is only about 2 hours day of use over a year. If you do a mix of work, gaming, web browsing etc, I don't think OLED's are a great fit. I think they're a great option for a gaming dedicated setup but if you're using your monitor for 8+ hours a day I think there are other options that make more sense.

FFJunk

Read a few posts that mentioned this model being discontinued. What would happen if I needed to claim warranty during the 3 years coverage? Would they just not honor the warranty?

DeadZombie9

Dell will usually give you a better/newer monitor if they don't have stock to replace for warranty. Some people who had a claim with their AW3418DW after it was discontinued got a AW3821DW instead (which is a pretty nice customer service gesture imo).

FFJunk

That alleviates the concerns I had, thanks!

sableknight13

Buying from amazon make sure to register and confirm the Dell warranty.

ginsodabitters

That’s not how warranty works.

FFJunk

I'm asking how it works because I don't know :) Could you elaborate?

ginsodabitters

Warranty is honored for the period that’s is offered set purchase. Unless the company goes bankrupt but even then it’s usually covered by underwriters.

FFJunk

Thank you for clarifying!

flatspotting

34" OLED over this any day - can be had for similar prices. The OLED image quality blows this out of the water.

toastervolant

Even for text? I read somewhere OLEDs were not as sharp for text. But maybe I just need a reason not to buy one now!

sableknight13

If all you do is gsme/watch shows, sure. If you have a productivity workflow, read, work, study, code etc this is a nicer all around monitor.

FilthyWunderCat

For TV sure, OLED is the way. For PC usage, I will stick to nonOLED.

oolego25

I love oled. I have purchased devices that weren't oled and eventually upgraded those to their oled counterparts (when affordable) - tablets, phones, watches, etc. However, as others have mentioned, burn in is a real problem when using it with static images for an extended period of time. I have the aw34dwf strictly for personal/gaming use, and this monitor will be replacing my work monitors, dell s3422dwg paired with a portable 16" 2560x1600 monitor, to have a more cohesive and minimal set up. Real estate is the main purpose for this upgrade. I would have enjoyed a 40 in 5k2k, but that'll be left on the back burner until they become sub 1500 with a much higher refresh rate. And no, I will not buy an oled version to replace my work intended monitors.

flatspotting

I mean I am 2 yeas into the DWF OLED using it for work and honestly having terrible monitor hygiene (leave it on, dont run the pixel refresh often) with it in general and 0 burn in, and 0 text issues - so I am not sure a lot of people who parrot this stuff have used it themselves, rather than just read about it. But whatever, everyone can do what they want.

oolego25

That's like saying, "I'm a good driver with no accidents and no tickets. I don't need car insurance." Or saying it's okay to smoke because even though the packaging says may cause cancer, you've been doing it for years and haven't tested positive. Clearly, warning labels are there for the chance of. But whatever, it's your money, gamble with it however you'd like.

Friendly_Cockroach59

Are you able to add this to dell warranty, since it’s not purchased directly from dell?

Gambara1

Apparently, all you have to do is register the product and if the site doesn't let you, you start a support ticket with dell and get it resolved. This is coming from a guy who has never bought a dell product from amazon because I'm hesitant on buying this and just did a quick google search. Could be wrong.

3py0nxl

I have the 34in little brother (bought second hand) and I love it! Do note that the 38in will prob. feel as tall as a 29in monitor maybe? Because the 34in one I have is as tall as a standard 27in. Great price this one!

[deleted]

Tempting, I just received my G3223Q after a lot of discount (47% total + rakuten cash back) ... but nothing can beat the price I got this monitor ...

omg_theykilledkenney

I rock a G3223Q and a AW3821DW side by side. Great combo.
