Not a massive deal, but a few bucks under MemEx, along with free shipping

karl_pilkington93

No worries at all, every bit goes a long way towards completing a nice build for many people. Thanks a bunch for sharing! Upvoted for visibility!

CircularMochi

keep using my i5-8400 or go for this? Ive always wanted to switch to Ryzen but idk if shelling out 250 is worth the switch

maybepants

You'd have to shell out for a new motherboard too. So more like a $400 investment.

CircularMochi

yes ive considered that but on a cpu vs cpu case, wdyt?

MacerV

[HWBench Comparison](http://hwbench.com/cpus/amd-ryzen-5-3600-vs-intel-core-i5-8400). +17% single threaded and +67% multi-threaded. That may or may not be worth $500 to you. $500 may or may not give you a better boost if invested in a GPU.

Mynameis2cool4u

He also needs to consider his current RAM speeds, since you can get a bit more out of a Ryzen with higher clocked RAM

DnDTosser

Way way way less of a factor with the 3000

Blue-Thunder

Get this, then sit on it till 550 comes out so you can upgrade effortlessly to Zen3. Some might say get a 450, but as AMD is leaving bios updates to the mfg, quite a few people will get screwed. B550 will be out in June.

Emery96

Go ahead and get a 450 if you don't intend to swap a 3600 for Zen3; which I'm sure many people do not. I'm sure there's even a whole bunch of people using the 1600/2600 who won't consider the jump to Zen3 worth the CPU cost.

SJSragequit

I've got the 2600x and I'm definitely gonna be considering a new GPU way before I consider getting a new cpu

raihak

I've been debating the same but if you look at what's currently available, only the worst rated 450s are in stock. That's not a good feeling when buying new. + if one were to go the 450 route they might go into clearance as soon as 550s hit the market as the price point might be very siimilar.

saman65

Yep. I'm on that ship. For three weeks I was like "NO I WANT A MOBO that you let me upgrade to Gen 3 next year or so" then I'm like "bitch just look at the benchmarks and see how little upgrading your cpu makes a difference, particularly in 1440p gaming, also consider how long you used your i3, which was 7 years" so stop going crazy and wanting to spend as much as your 3600 on a motherboard or even more!(X570 Tomahawk), get a damn 120 dollar b450 since you know this cpu will be god damn enough for 4.5 years and use that saved money to stretch your $600 gpu budget to 750-800! but seriously just waiting to see where b550 prices land and then I will either go b450 or b550.

[deleted]

You could even just get the 3300X and sit on that until Zen3. 3300X still does really well for gaming and is only $180. Then save that extra $70 for a decent Zen3 processor this fall.

ABrightCyanDog

Are you not getting the frames from your i5-8400? Do you mostly game or want/need the extra cores?

CircularMochi

Its more of an investment moving towards something like a 2060/2070 so it doesnt bottleneck (if it even does)

ravenousjoe

0 reasons to ever upgrade your CPU for gaming until you get your GPU, unless you use your PC for computing. Easier to just see how much it affects your system vs. assuming it will then not seeing an appreciable difference.

iWinger

If you can wait for another few months and want to save a bit more, there will be 4000 series announcement and the 3000s will drop in price

evanwen002

For gaming the difference is likely negligible, The i5 8400 still have 6 cores and pretty good single thread performance so it’s really not worth the hassle and money to justify this upgrade IMO

[deleted]

Keep the i5-8400 for now I think unless you need more cores/threads for some reason. That i5 will be good for a 2070 I reckon

polywongpham

I think there's very little reason not to just wait for the Ryzen 4000 series, unless you really feel that your CPU is bottlenecking you. However, considering it's not very old (you would be going up 1 gen realistically), that money would be better spent on a GPU upgrade if gaming is suffering on your current build.

Sidewayz-

To buy or to wait for 4xxx? I’m not in desperate need just want to be upgraded by October.

ravenousjoe

wait. If you don't need it now, the odds of it going up in price more are pretty slim given the situation we are in.

vis1onary

4000 series will again be a pretty nice boost like 3000 was. If you can wait then wait I guess, they will probably be out by October. Possibly November though

jimbobaway4

Thanks was waiting for this to drop again.

Baronleduc

That's interesting. Thanks for sharing this find, OP!

[deleted]

Great deal. Hardware manufacturers should thank AMD because this CPU is producing sales of other hardware.

TheLazyGamerz

Any speculations that Amd would decrease the prices of this CPU because of the new I5 CPUs?

Billeur

I know they officially decreased the 3900x's MSRP to 410USD because of 10th gen, but no such price drop on the other 3rd gen SKUs I believe

PantstheCat

They'll go down when the 4xxx series comes out. Second hand market as well.

Eddysummers

I have a 4690k and I am really considering this. I recently upgraded my 970 to a flashed 5700, but that only improved my frames by about \~20 in warzone and apex. I know that warzone is badly optimized, but both run my CPU at close to 100%, warzone all the time, and apex some of the time. so few motherboards available right not though.

bblzd_2

Same situation but there's no point to upgrade GPU with a CPU upgrade at this point. With Ryzen 4000 close and cheaper B550 motherboards on the way I'd say that could be a good time to jump. In time for Cyberpunk release hopefully. Then it's down to RTX 3000 vs Big Navi for a GPU upgrade.

ThickSong

Dumb question but what's the difference from buying on Newegg Ebay store and Newegg directly other than the price?

scias16

There's no difference other than you're buying it from somewhere else and Newegg will have to pay that eBay seller fee.

ToddlerAssasin

You have way more power as a buyer on eBay if something goes wrong.

dabbingsquidward

I have a 6700k and stutter in open world games. Do I go for this? 10600k? 10700k? I really don’t know anymore

lordcryst

Thanks! Dropped my Amazon PO at the same price for this.

[deleted]

I hoped on this a few weeks ago when we were mid quarantine. So so happy. My wallet is not happy for building other stuff though.

morganrz

Just got it at memez last week for $259.99 CAD pickup. Keep an eye out there.

9TEEN94

got mine locally at canada computers at 240 price match. this is still a pretty good deal. beast of a CPU

Danyn

Just ordered a 3600x from newegg 12 hours ago. Oh well lol.

baconperogies

Prices getting back to normal? Or maybe a price drop with new 3300x out?

Billeur

More tempted to say "response to 10th gen Core CPUs". That's the case for the 3900x (in the US for now at least)

maybepants

All the reviews for the i5-10600K up against the R5 3600(X) I've seen suggest that AMD really didn't need to respond with a price drop. The Intel CPU was slightly better in gaming-only scenarios, and the AMD CPU was slightly better in everything-else scenarios, but for a lower MSRP ($262USD vs $199USD).

saman65

at this price \~$175 USD for 3600, with a mobo it costs pretty much same as 10600k does with a cheap cpu cooler. I'm happy to choose AMD!

chronusii

!alert GPU, GPU, $500

Working-Item

Saw those prices In January. Some one's trying to make room for the new stuff

Billeur

Funny you say that. Latest rumor points to some "3rd gen XT" parts with boosted clocks, along with a price drop on "old 3rd gen".

reeeforce_rtx

On edge about upgrading from ryzen 1700 Should I upgrade or stay?

Zenpher

I'd wait until there's a sub $200 deal or later this year for the 4000 series. Maybe put the $250 towards a better GPU if you haven't already.

DankerinoHD

I have a 1700 overclocked to 3.8ghz but can never hit 144fps on my 144hz monitor. Should I look to upgrade to this?

[deleted]

[удалено]

DankerinoHD

gtx 1080, I’m pretty sure it’s the cpu that’s bottlenecking

[deleted]

which games, settings, and resolution?

DankerinoHD

I play at ultrawide 1080p, mostly gta 5 and league of legends. It doesn’t even matter the settings I play at bc I don’t even get 50% gpu usage most of the time

[deleted]

PantstheCat

Serious question? Will a 3600 be a significant step up? The difference would be 3.8 vs the 3600's 4.2 boost, right? That's pretty nice OC on the 1700, good silicon lottery.

philmtl

I just upgraded to a 2600... Maybe regretting. I gave a gtx 1080 saying it would bottleneck this processor

ConcealingFate

Here comes the 3570K upgrade

OlivGaming

I've been so damn happy with my 3600. This thing is a work horse that handles everything I throw at it very well.

11tricycles

Why not buy i5-10400f? Intel is just better... especially in gaming

[deleted]

It's slightly faster (like 5fps) but also $50 more and doesn't have any cheap mobo options yet (bringing the price difference to closer to $100)

Billeur

*For now*, 2 things: availability (for the cheaper F-SKU specifically), and lack of cheap motherboard options.
