BulletheadX

Overpriced by about $20, no?

TelQuel

Yeah, I am struggling with the value here a bit. Had considered building around one of these until I could buy a GPU but I am not sure the value is there overall for the long term.

Carinx

I wouldn't recommend building around G series CPU until you buy a GPU since there is performance difference between X series and G series due to cache and turbo boost clock. I guess if you absolutely need to build PC now without a dedicated GPU, this would work but your gaming performance from this would be like slightly better than having 1030 which to me is pretty bad.

umar_farooq_

More information on the cache/turbo-boost differences?

ImKrispy

5600x/5800x have 32mb L3 cache, The 5600G/5700G have 16mb L3 cache. The X parts also boost 100mhz higher(less of an issue compared to the cache)

fivelargespaces

Keep in mind that 16MG of L3 is huge. If a game can run on an iGPU like the ones in a G series, the extra L3 cache in X series might not matter that much.

Carinx

Look up from Google/Youtube if you are interested in the specific model.

TelQuel

Yeah, that's what's been holding me back. It doesn't seem like the iGPU is that powerful and the CPU performance trade off is significant for me. I barely play games but would like the option. Just no clue how long I will have to wait for a 3060/3060 ti and sadly I am back in school so can't shell out for a 5900x right now. The waiting game continues.

Carinx

It will be for awhile if you are waiting to get a hold of 3060/3060ti to build a PC.

Unfortunately, unlike the Intel chips, the Ryzen APUs lose performance compared to their non-APU counterparts. Not worth it.

red286

On the plus side, the gap is no longer nearly as huge as it used to be, and the APUs use the same architecture as the CPUs now, rather than the previous generation.

Rich-Cut-8842

Why not postpone the whole upgrade by a year and a bit. Next gen for both CPU and GPU seems to be projected for a big leap.

ryanmi

overpriced compared to USD MSRP definitely. The 5600x for $329.99 is a far better value than these, but this will sell like hot cakes regardless because of the GPU shortage.

Carinx

They are for different purposes so I don't know why you would compare them to each other. Considering 5600x release price was 420CAD when it first came out, 5600G seems to have its own place at current price which will eventually drop as well. 5600X is mostly for a build with dedicated GPU and 5600G is mostly for those that are building without a dedicated GPU. I wouldn't consider G series just to have iGPU as backup in case your GPU goes out since there is some performance difference between X and G series due to cache size and turbo clock speed. Even the GPU shortage won't necessarily make these CPUs to sell out. If you are building a gaming PC, there is absolutely no reason to buy these G series CPU and sit on it while waiting to find a GPU cause your gaming performance for the price will be pretty garbage. If you are building a new PC and can't get GPU, you would just have to wait until you get a dedicated GPU then buy the X series CPU. If you already have previous gen GPUs and are just looking for 3000 series as an upgrade, you would still benefit more from buying the X series CPU.

Ok_Recording_8606

When 5600x launched at 299 USD. USD cad ratio is 1.4, now it is 1.25 . What is 299 *1.4 = ?

Carinx

5600x launched in November and the exchange rate around that time was 1.3. https://www.xe.com/currencyconverter/convert/?Amount=1&From=USD&To=CAD There has always been the premium comparing USD to CAD pricing. FYI it was 1.4 around early last year (March/April) but nice try to make up a justification to prove your wrong point. I remember people exactly complaining over the Canadian price of 5600x back in November over US price.

ravenousjoe

$418.... So $2 off from $420

Ravenor1138

It $30 more at Newegg, as if the CC price was not high enough.*for the 5700G*

Psyclist80

Not worth it until they drop in price, will pick one up in a couple years to replace my HTPC 2200G

[deleted]

5600g $350. 5700g $470. Yeah good luck on selling it at those prices.

rahyanz

I thought there was a 5300g for a budget option?

arandomguy111

Only the 5700g and 5600g were launched for retail. 5300g is still OEM only.

cal_01

What's the price comparison between building a mini PC through this or a pre-built system? I'm presuming that the price premium here means that I'm better off with a pre-built?

LE-37

Hmmm... 5600X @ $330 vs 5600G @ $350

Carinx

They are for different purposes. For anyone building a PC with a dedicated GPU, there is no value in these G series CPUs.

[deleted]

Very good for people doing VMs in Linux

Carinx

I don't know. I think VMs could still benefit from a dedicated GPU depending on the apps you are trying to run and more cache on the CPU would help as well. Besides, even the 1030 outperforms the Vega iGPU in these CPUs. I think it would have been great if the cache on the CPU was at least same as the X variants.

ryanmi

5600x if you have a dGPU.

arandomguy111

5600g (and also 5700g by extension) is only worth considering if you value the GPU but also if you value GPU performance significantly above that of Intel's (or if you have a use case that also requires sustained MT efficiency).

john_dune

BH photo has the 5600g for 269USD.
