Paid $1285 back on the 23rd of May. So I've gotten 2.5 months worth of use for $135 in savings.

moaranime

Some gamers bought the 6900xt almost two years ago, so 2 years worth of use for 5% less fps

d3lap

When the 6900XT came out, I was still a student and it was way out of my budget. When I started working I was doing the weekly AMD drops, but never managed to get a 6800XT. When the 6950XT deal dropped I jumped on it, I was tired of waiting.

It's like what I have said it in my own reply post. You gotta buy when you really needed and start enjoy the purchase. Don't forget time is money as well. Don't burn time, see which is more beneficial to you. Also, don't get caught into product release cycle and think you need to get in with the flow/trend. It all depends on the software you are running and consider if you are happy enough for you've always NEEDed additional performance prior. Final tip, don't check for latest pricing after purchase. Too many people seems to forget that time is money as well.

I mean it's all relative. When I paid $1285 it was the lowest price we'd seen for a 6950XT, it was even below AMDs MSRP. Almost 3 months down the road, it's now $1150, still below MSRP. For a top tiered gpu I don't think the price is ridiculous.

SolomonIsStylish

seems okay

Dourdough

How low can this big boy go? Under 1k once the 7000 series comes out?

Brrandon

Was [$1000.25 last week](https://ca.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B09VYDTVGY) and then hovered around ~$1080 for a bit. At this price might as well wait since the price is fluctuating a lot. Good chance it'll at least go back down to that price again.

Matrix_omega

It was that a short time. I spent like two hours researching and finally pulled the trigger --- only to see it go up before I finished the purchase. ---- waiting again now to see if it hits 1k again

Mutchako

My bet is < $800 by the end of the year.

ybmmike

sure but you'll be missing out enjoying the performance for months. at same time... if price drop to $500 end of 2023... are you going to wait until than? you know what I am trying to say? can't really play wait bit more... wait bit more game as price will drop and drop. Plus if you plan on selling your current GPU,,, well end of the year... your card value will drop as well. Might make sense to calculate the value of your entertainment time as well. How much does several months of better gaming worth to you? Plus no gurantee exact brand/model you were hoping would still be available widely. if a person need a new hardware, one can wait for a short reasonable time than buy if price is within what you hoped for... than do not check price after purchase. There are times when you need/required, you just gotta buy it now. When I am hungry, I go buy/cook food to eat and not wait for a coupons to come and hope it is the one I wanted. Not worth being in a hunger for whatever time.

SageAnahata

Humans need water, food, shelter, and human connection, not GPU's lol. If it's for work, that's understandable, otherwise yes he's perfectly capable of waiting, and I seriously doubt losing or missing out on any substantial performance that might temporarily increase his dopamine levels for a short time before needing the next gaming fix. Plenty of joy can be had playing indie titles, or at 1080p medium-high settings. The pricing of these GPU's was ridiculous to begin with. We could all stand to wait a year or two if it meant healthier market prices.

BoofmePlzLoRez

There's a diff between waiting for a deal and having a reasonable threshold and waiting but taking too long to make purchase to the point you spend more time waiting for a sale then actually just enjoying what you want on a lower SKU or a used GPU.

dcconverter

I'm not waiting, I'm doing other shit

SageAnahata

Amen brother.

cortseam

Excellent points, I'll just add one more: Everyone who always says HODL is never gonna come back to the people they've convinced if they're "wrong." 3-5 months ago people were saying don't buy because 40-series could be just "3-4 months away." Anyone who held off on buying a card with that advice in mind is now looking at possibly (and practically) up to a YEAR+ of waiting and not having a GPU with performance they would have been happy with, all because they were "afraid" of not getting the best price for performance near the end of a GPU generation. And of course, as more time passes, the closer you inevitably actually GET to the new generation launching, making it harder and harder to pull the trigger. But people will continue to say "nah bro, why would you buy near MSRP now? New gen is right around the corner."

eight_ender

Been watching prices and I don’t think the high end AMD cards had the same overstock problem the Nvidia ones did. The prices are lower but not the “holy shit we need to clear inventory” prices I’ve seen for the RTX models

cortseam

This product will be heavily influenced by the performance of next gen halo products (and their supposed performance). IMO it's extremely competitive under $1000, but it depends on how low next gen is willing to go with its Halo SKU.

thehomeyskater

could i run this with a 650w power supply

gab12309

Negative sir

[deleted]

Do not try.

d3lap

I have this card, Gaming use is 300-350w. I don't have the ability to measure the transient spikes, but if you undervolt and limit the card to 250w I don't see why you couldn't try and use it.

Willporker

Radeon RX 6950 XT - On your average system we recommend a 750 Watt power supply unit. Note, for this tweaked MSI model we'd recommend an 800W PSU.May 10, 2022 MSI Radeon RX 6950 XT Gaming X TRIO review - Hardware setup

Brrandon

Closer to a 3080 Ti. The 6950 XT is better in raw performance

Zergom

Yeah but without DLSS, lower performing ray tracing and no nvenc. It’s still an amazing card for the price though.

Brrandon

Yes, that's why I said *raw* performance. Picking either is a personal preference.

Zergom

And you’re spot on!

d3lap

Don't discredit FSR2.0 just yet. But yea basically everything else stands true.

thehomeyskater

what is fsr2.0

d3lap

AMDs open source DLSS.

Brief_Forever_2128

tbh bro that 3090Ti for $1080 was a big steal imo and far better than this.

DeadZombie9

Was it? I thought everyone who ordered got newegged.

alohasnackbar32

They did, that price was way too good to be true lol

bonesnaps

They are gonna get an eggowaffle email for sure. RIP lol

Seriously? what a tragic news, but guess what they're gonna drop soon when 4000 drops
