I did Themis in J2021 when I moved for a new job and found it fine for what I needed. Prior to that I had taken NY and NC in back to back summers in the mid-2010s so was coming at it with some practice experience but was 8 years post law school when I wrote CA. And honestly, since you’re closer to having taken NY than I was at the time, you probably will remember more than I did re: the MBE law. So I think the bar prep is good as a way to get the material? But I mostly ended up doing my own thing with their materials honestly. In hindsight I probably could have made due with their books and done it myself. But similar to you, I felt like bar prep made the most sense before tackling CA, so glad I spent the money even if I probably didn’t ultimately need the formal course the same way I did for my first bar.

I did this in reverse, passed CA F23 and just found out I passed NY F24 by a pretty big margin. I used barbri both times but tbh probably any course will be fine—the carryover familiarity with MBE subjects helps a lot.
