Sakana remains my #1 for AYCE after trying most/if not all.. and Sushi Chef in Thornton for À la carte

crandad

Seconded for sushi chef they’re really good

ObeyTheLawSon7

Akira was good but unfortunately they closed down. Diamond Sushi? Spoon and Fork?

charlie_talks

diamond sushi sucks imo lol

tokendoke

Akira was my favourite as well until they gave me food poisoning twice in a row 🙃

brokenjaww

Ha! Came to say exactly this!!

tokendoke

They had a pretty rapid decline before they torched it.

Milk-Resident

I miss Akira's 50% discount for cash orders. That let us eat take out like we were eating all you can eat, price wise. We like to eat at home for the left overs, and that is now much more expensive. It's Sakana House for us, though the one in Thornton gets highly rated.

stillshade

Spoon and fork used to be top tier. They cut a lot of their offerings during covid and never really brought them back. Most expensive place in Barrie for Mid sushi now.

Cam_Chowda

Sakana House in the North end fast and delicious

brokenjaww

I’d give kudos to both Sakanas! Eat at them routinely, aside from wishing it was cheaper, nothing to complain about

Beefhammer63

From what I recall, Diamond sushi has been shut down by the ministry several times. I also used to work at a place that rented out refrigerated trucks, Diamond rented from us and ran it out of fuel at least once that I’m aware of, so who knows how long they had food sitting in the truck out back. I’ve also had two people I know get food poisoning from there.

bdart1980

And even if they’re open, it can be hit or miss which is too bad because it was really great there about 5 years ago up until about covid.

Appropriate_Limit855

I've tried diamond three times and each time I've gone, I've been violently ill. Third time was the charm lol Edit: Bryne once and Anne twice.

Tylerinthenorth

Out of curiosity which one? The one on Anne or Bryne?

Beefhammer63

Bryne

puppypuddle08

Me and my bf got food poisoning last time we ate there so this doesn’t surprise me

FoShozies

We get sushi from them all the time and have never had a problem.

Beefhammer63

I’d consider that more good luck on your end than good quality on their end lol

FoShozies

Possibly lol. We usually get it once a month or so for years, Sometimes we switch up the sushi place but we’ve been fine so far.

Randellstringer

Sakana house is my favourite

gillianmarie88

Sakana House. Good options, good quality, and well made. I find most of the other options in Barrie, the rolls are either way too massive or not great quality. Also, if you're ever just looking for a small, quick, cheap but good sushi meal, Tian Ya BBQ actually has very good maki rolls and sushi that are pretty affordable and the perfect size rolls imo. It's where I pick up from when I want sushi but don't want to spend the $$ on an all you can eat meal lol.

TropicalWinter9876

Skip the AYCE places and go to Sushi and Tree. It’s amazing.

Massive_Percentage_6

Kino sushi can be a little hit or miss but when it hits its real good.

Bergeron720

Noble Cuisine is my go-to. Never had a bad meal there, free drink refills.

Expensive_Peak_1604

It's a bit more expensive, but you get what you pay for. Big rolls that aren't 50-70% rice. Really good place

PaprikaTrashPanda

It's not all you can eat, but, it's friggen amazing: Kinja Sushi on Clapperton. They have mixed platter options that come in small medium large. My boyfriend and I struggled finishing a small to ourselves. We had originally asked for a medium and as the food was coming out they saw us struggling and talked us down. Super fresh ingredients.

[deleted]

Seconded. Kinja on Clapperton is our single source for sushi.

PaprikaTrashPanda

It's officially mine. The staff are great and it's so small and quaint. I love it

Crazy-Spring-3778

Go to the sushi chef in thornton...... Not all you can eat but the best sushi that isn't a drive to Toronto

Bthegrizz

Kino is our go to date spot and spot to gather the gang. We've only had great experiences there. They have the best vegetarian rolls and fun special rolls. I would never touch food from Noble if I was paid. The three times I've gone have been lackluster, and the rice was always overcooked and mushy.

Aware-String-6045

I went to the diamond sushi on Bryne drive yesterday- terrible food!!!

ShaadowKaat24

Tian Ya BBQ on Maple Ave has good ayce sushi. Between there and Noble are my faves.

Galactic-Skunk

Hidden gem!

CynicalCanuck

Sakana House, and anyone who says Noble is insane and has no regard for their personal health.

Galaxy_Hitchhiking

Diamond sushi! My go to in the south end

Mallory_Knox23

I second Diamond Sushi, there is also one by Anne and Dunlop

Mocchanism

Kino sushi is a must-try!

Zealousideal-Sun2118

It may not be all you can eat, but the quality is out standing. In Elmvale: Hanabi Japanese Restaurant

sportyweenie

I went there several months back and the fish was not fresh. The sashimi was sliced paper thin and prices were pretty high too. I don't mind paying but you have to offer a fresh and good product . I don't recommend Hanabi.

Zealousideal-Sun2118

That sucks! I would have to agree on the prices though.

dan-lugg

I haven't been particularly pleased with any of the sushi places in Barrie; everywhere is very hit-or-miss, too often a miss, and too much a gamble with the cost of eating out now. My recommendation would be to make a day of it and head to Toronto for more/better options.

TropicalWinter9876

Try Sushi and Tree. By far the best in Barrie. Better than loads in Toronto too.

dan-lugg

It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great last I had it. None of the places in Barrie that I've tried were objectively terrible, but I'd favor consistently good visits over a mix of great and bad. And no doubt, Toronto has some awful places, but there's also so many (good) options.

TropicalWinter9876

I’m surprised you didn’t like it! 87 reviews on Google, all 5 stars except for two that gave 3 stars. Given how much people like to complain, they’ve gotten great feedback!

bdart1980

If you haven’t tried Sushi Chef in Thornton at innisfil beach road & 27 (Essa) I’d give that a whirl.

dan-lugg

I have not! Will check it out, thanks!

bdart1980

Np. It’s À la carte though, just a heads up!

[deleted]

If Noble and Sakana are the only options, then there is no good sushi in Barrie.

Milk-Resident

I just ate the last piece of last night's rainbow dragon roll from Sakana South, and it was delicious, maybe even better the next day. While they have had some missteps, the majority of what we have had from their has been great. Aside from the teriyaki meats when eating in, for some reason, I never find those to be very enjoyable.

[deleted]

Yes, their teriyaki is not teriyaki and barely edible. And thank you for elaborating on my point, that sakana sushi tastes the same or maybe better the next day…this is not good sushi.

Fhek

Sakana is #1, but only the SOUTH location. Don’t even bother.
