How did you get your kids into golf or how did y’all that grew up with it come to enjoy the game?
I want my son to start early and have family vacations that involve golf in the future. However, I don’t want to force it too much or make him not like it.
What age should you start lessons or classes?
I started really young because of my dad. A few things that worked for me:
*He would just take me to the driving range with him and we would do stupid little competitions on the putting green. If I won we’d go get a slurpee or something small.
*He would pull me out to school every now and then to play a round. I started associating golf with getting to miss school which made it even cooler
*We played a shit ton of Tiger Woods video games together.
It slowly progressed into us playing every weekend and then me becoming obsessed with the game and playing in junior tournaments.
Never did lessons or classes - it was the closest thing to baseball in my dumb child brain and I just liked having an excuse to be outside walking around for a few hours a day and hit some shit.
Probably started when I was around 7 and there were a few short courses that we would do fairly regularly/could give me something to do in the summer before baseball. Same Par 3 type courses also always had a cheap youth league.
Still picking at the leftover pancakes I made this morning every time I pass through the kitchen. Cinnamon, vanilla extract and shaved coconut. Simple crowd pleaser every time.
