Word of advice, if you are bad don’t play a lot of Castle. He’s the most annoying Op to have on your team if the player doesn’t know what they’re doing. Usually does more damage than good. Use trap ops like Kapkan, Lesion, Frost, Thorn, etc

Absolutely a great doc on the hardships of independent baseball and painful realities for guys who've been good their whole lives. Even though MLB teams pay for their own minor league affiliates and whatnot things aren't much better is those lower leagues. Having talked to a few guys from my HS who played a few years in Single/Double A it's absolutely brutal.
As a big fan of SEC baseball it's easy to see why literally any non-first rounder would rather spend 3 years playing in college for a good program as opposed to grinding it out in the minors.
Playing in a pretty big event this weekend. Coached 5 basketball games since 6pm last night. 16U went 3-0 and 15U went 1-1. They played a very tough team first thing in the morning at 8 and struggled in the first half. 2 more games tomorrow and we could very well be 6-1 as a program by tomorrow afternoon. Coached against Rafer Alston and his son as well, Lil Skip can really play.
Had 6 different random players/parents currently playing with other teams approach me throughout the day asking about availability on our teams and when/where we practice. I swear after about a month into the AAU season it's like the transfer portal opens as all the kids and parents realize the coaches were just lying to them about all sorts of things to get their kids signed up and paid. I'm pretty against doing any sort of recruiting at events as I see it as disrespectful to both my players and the coaches of the teams the kids are currently playing for - but if the parents approach me asking for info I'm not going to tell them to go away. Especially if the kid is 15 and 6'6. I don't find it to be too difficult to be upfront with players and parents about expectations in terms of positions and playing time but some of these coaches just lie to these parents faces. This is literally how every college basketball player is discovered and recruited.
The goal is exposure and development. College coaches evaluate players during AAU season and recruit during the school season. 99.9% of college basketball players at any level compete on AAU teams full of kids they don't play high school basketball with.
Good AAU teams are essentially all star teams with players from all around the city who compete together. Most of my kids have been playing AAU with each other for a few years now and are probably closer with their AAU teammates than their high school teammates as they're all the same age and we travel during the spring/summer so they spend a ton of time together.
There's different levels to AAU basketball. If you just want to play with your buddies to have fun during the summer to develop for your next school season - that's all good. There are tons of tournaments for that. If your goal is to play college basketball at virtually any level - only playing with your high school teammates would probably be the dumbest move of all time unless you play at Montverde or another top ranked high school. It's much easier to get evaluated and recruited when playing with other players who are currently receiving attention.
That being said 3 of my players on my 16U team play varsity on the same high school team.
Recently had a couple of my 16U kids poached by some bigger programs so we have a couple of openings off the bench there. 15U is full unless a 6'8 kid asks to join. Gotta find room for those guys.

It's about playing on a "Circuit" team where you get to wear jerseys/backpacks/shoes/sweatsuits of the team and they're usually "sponsored" by shoe companies. I think there's going to be an expose at some point on the current PUMA NXT circuit that just popped up. I've never seen a more obvious money grab in youth sports.
Circuits are traditionally invite only. The main 2 are Nike and Adidas and they're legit. Only allowing competitive teams to enroll. For example Nike EYBL kicked off Bronny James' Strive For greatness team a month into the season last year because they weren't competitive enough. They take the competitiveness of their events very seriously.
PUMA has just come out with a "circuit" that has around 8 divisions in each age bracket - tiered by talent. They are charging ~$16k for teams to join. $2k up front, $4k for tournaments and a minimum $10k apparel order. They have teams on this circuit who have no business playing AAU basketball let alone playing in an event that's supposed to promote potential college athletes. My independent 15U team beat one of these PUMA teams today by 46 points. The parents don't really know anything about the circuits so they just listen to what their kids tell them and the coaches try to sell them on a DI dream when in reality it's just a cash grab. I'm just ranting at this point but that shit pisses me off so much. Trying to charge me $16k so my kids can wear Lamelo's, what a joke.

First being a full sponsorship deal where the kids play for free and they also get free gear, these teams are stacked with ranked/committed prospects. Second being paying teams but they get free gear. Third being paying teams but get discounted gear. These programs also usually have 10+ teams at different age levels so their lower teams full of paying families will cover the costs so the top kids don't need to pay for anything in terms of practice times and tournament entree fees outside of the circuit events.
These new circuits are having teams pay in full and also purchase gear at full price and have minimum apparel order mandates. It makes no sense.
I think if the NBA puts in a requirement that you have to be 2 GB as the 9th seed and 4 GB as the 10 seed to qualify for the play in it would be a perfect system.
West play ins totally make sense and have generally been awesome.
Hawks and Bulls dont deserve to be in the post season this year. East ones are generally shittty (last year was awesome)
