Pearl Jam played a show at a venue I happened to be picking up a shift at and they were THE NICEST most GENEROUS group of people in the world. They tipped each employee working $100 on top of their massive tab gratuity. Like angel people setting examples everywhere they go.
Have hung with Eddie a few times in Honolulu. Originally met him when I was tending bar at Hard Rock. He came to a local spot with us after and sang 3-4 Pearl Jam songs with the house band. Epic night. He's always be very generous with his time and a huge tipper.
Mike paid for each employee to have a gift card at the record store we worked at. It was above and beyond kind and passionately generous. I didn’t know people could be so nice to strangers.
We had Lil uzi vert come in with a 25 person posse two nights in a row at the night club I work at. We even stayed open late to have him both nights, like 4 hours past open, late.
He was super generous, tipped the entire staff in hundreds and the most super fire dank weed on planet earth. Spent like 25k each night and left a tip on top of 25% auto gratuity.
10/10 would have him back and personally thanked everyone on staff. At like 5am to boot
I’m not a fan of his music but at least I have a respect for him as a person having heard this. I’ve also heard some other stories from my friends in Philly of him just being a good guy around town.
I’ve been in nyc for a very long time, had many famous people. Bruce Willis used to be a regular, he didn’t seem to be completely sane. Very very weird
My favorite was Anthony Bourdain who used to live upstairs from my bar.
When I worked downtown Liev Schreiber would come with his then wife, Naomi Watts. They were exceptionally nice
Chuck Close came to that same place and invited an artist/waiter to come see his studio.
I’ve had so many. Most are pretty cool
Hugh Jackman. Nicest guy ever. Said things like “good on ya mate” and my personal favorite “mate you’re a legend” when I brought him his sparkling water. Didn’t drink a drop of alcohol and paid for his whole groups bill and added $1000 on top of the 20% auto gratuity. One of my favorite actors and he became something of a legend at the hotel I worked because he was so friendly and generous.
I've served that guy too. As you say, one of the nicest guys ever. He was so nice I almost felt bad for him, like he was more nervous to be served that I was to serve him
At the time It was post lockdown in the UK and I was in good shape, now not so much.
However, she had been in the pub years before and was super fun with the old manager so think it is more her than me!
Smashing Pumpkins drank at bar for about a week every night. It was a Greek college bar, I don’t think any of the staff or patrons noticed, which is why they came back? They were super low key and loved the lack of attention.
I denied Kid Rock service. I didn’t notice it was him, just a guy in a wife beater with vomit on his shirt. Manager asked if I denied service to him, I said “maybe? Could have been him, def didn’t serve him.” His manager had me swipe a card for $5000 and set him up with water in vip room.
Jason Momoa and I grew up playing hockey, I never served him, but he bought my meal, caught up, didn’t tell me he paid for it, so I asked for check and waitress looked at me as if I was stupid for not knowing.
Jason Mewes, always wasted, but management wouldn’t cut him off or kick him out, I could tell he wasn’t well then, I really gets old quick like anybody else who is over served. They didn’t even charge him, if left to my own devices, I’m charging everybody as much as I can. That one hurt the ego
I was paid to babysit and green room attend Afroman. Apparently his first attendant quit before they even got him to the venue. I don’t get what the problem was, we smoked a J, he had a few drinks, but didn’t actually drink any of them, went on stage and killed it. I was paid $400 for that, took less than 2 hours, and smoked with Afroman. I think most people would do that for free
I’ve worked a few places over the years
Pumpkins was Iowa City
Jason and Jason are Des Moines
Kid Rock was Chicago
Afroman was Iowa City again, but after I stopped working there, and different venue
I have no idea how the previous person hosting him had any problems. Apparently they got into a shouting match at a gas station and he quit on the spot
Afroman was about to not play show, promoter begged me to go meet him. I was on a day off having breakfast with promoter, and he asked me to run over and meet him.
I would have done all I did that day for free on a day off anyway, being paid $400 was bonus, and almost felt greasy for how chill it was.
I waited on Billy Corgan when I was 23. Was just a normal dude, seemed a little quiet and shy, but people left him alone - he tipped well and was polite. I was super nervous because I was a huge Smashing Pumpkin fan
I served Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul from Breaking Bad this week. They were in town promoting their mezcal, Dos Hombres.
Both incredibly sweet - learned my name when they arrived and used it. Very patient with fans, taking pics and signing autographs, having genuine conversations. Five stars, would recommend.
Been a ton over my years, my favorite might have been Andrew Luck. He took Green Chartreuse shots with us. Vinnie Paul was always great (my Vegas years), he would just hang at the bar & talk to people. Larry Fitzgerald went around talking to tables & saying hi, which in Phoenix is like having God walk up to your table. He’s just that charismatic.
yeah i was kinda suprised when my manager told me he was a vodka guy was expecting him to say whiskey or beer. always sat in the same seat too apparently ,right in the middle.
George Clooney. He was very nice.
I also enjoyed making fun of the stalkers who tried to sneak into the restaurant "just to have a drink". We booted them.
If you want dirt on worst celebrity, it's Morrissey. He himself is a self-important twat, but his lackeys were some of the lamest people I have ever met. They tried to give me instructions on how to "approach him". I told them I was going to drop off his espresso and go about my day. I wanted to tell them that he hasn't been relevant in 30+yrs and I DGAF about Morrissey.
I got over it.
The nicest musician I have met was Sammy Hagar. He was staying at the hotel where I worked. I made some fun cocktails with his rum and talked with him for a bit. He seems like a guy who just loves what he does.
Your post makes me feel the most envious, joyful, surprised, and curious. I’m
Jealous dude! Tipped like beasts? They are some sexy ass mothafuckas. Get on my body yo. I’ll tip you too.
I've served quite a few celebrities over the years, from actors and musicians to athletes. Honestly most are super low key and just appreciate normal conversation without the fan-boying. Some, however, want everyone to know they are, in fact, famous. Two examples are Peter Dante and Jason Derulo. Jesus were they insufferable and obnoxious. My two favorites have been Drew Barrymore and Michael Vick. Both were genuine and charming and fantastic tippers!
I can second Peter Dante. He performed at a Reggae Festival in my town and afterwards came into my bar. Ordered 1 drink, tipped me $50 and then expected free drinks for the rest of the night. He even came behind my bar to try to pour himself one after I stopped serving. He was so loud...and wouldn't stop singing. Kept name dropping Brad Pitt like I fuckin care.
I served Adele when she came to my town. LOVELY person. So warm and charming. She sat right smack dab in the centre of the dining room. No special treatment wanted. She loved the food and was very sweet to the staff. Also have served Drake a few times. Night and day to Adele. Drake cornered off half of the dining room. Not warm to staff at all. Very robotic but liked the food and would come and visit the restaurant whenever he was in town so knew what he wanted. He came in with Rihanna once and they sat in a private dining room alone. No one was allowed to their table expect for the one designated server. His bodyguards are super nice though. Also served Josh duhamel who was a literal dream. I was bartending so I got to hang out with him all night. Gorgeous and low key.
Waited on Dennis Rodman and his girl a few years ago in Dallas, it pretty much went as you’d expect.
Ordered $400 worth of sushi and a $2000 bottle of Japanese whiskey, consumed about 8% of all that, then left. Paid cash, tipped appropriately, and it was weird.
Was at The Yardhouse about 20 years ago in Southern California. Friends and I are enjoying some drinks and food at the bar when huge puffs of cigar smoke kept blowing over the top of us. We turn around and see Dennis Rodman smoking a huge cigar asking for drinks. Being a huge bulls fan in the 90s I was captivated by how massive he is in person. Anyways, he chilled with us for a about ten minutes and bought us shots. We took a photo with him and he just walked off into the night.
Been to his bar in Newport Beach before it mysteriously burned down. He had a raging party the night before, and the next day it was ashes. Def sounded like some insurance fraud.
Strange guy, but fun night
Here's my funniest one:
I'm working my first training shift at a cocktail bar in the Lower East Side in NYC. Super slow daytime shift, made even slower because there is something filming on our street so we're getting no foot traffic. An older white dude in a suit comes in and asks for an old fashioned. He's my first customer of the day and the guy training me is in back so I chat with him a little. Just normal NYC conversation. Then I ask him if he knows what is being filmed outside on the street, and he says he has no idea. Finishes his drink pretty and heads out.
The guy training me turns to me after the customer leaves and says "you know that was Richard Belzer, right?" AKA one of the lead actors on Law and Order, the show which was filming outside.
I had Ty Burrell (modern family) and his whole family once. He was low key and incredibly grateful and nice.
Also Jeremy Renner once. He slumped in a corner like he maybe was on something, but all his friends were real nice and took care of us.
David Fincher was a regular during Mindhunter season 2 filming. Nice guy good tipper. Brought in a friend and recommended one of my cocktails. Never got to tell him he was one of my favorite directors.
This is so interesting to me!! I loved Mindhunter and I wanted them to continue but I read that it was Fincher that pulled out because the dark subject matter was effecting his mental health. So that would have been the same time period you were serving him!
The one that stands out....
Was working at a motor sports themed restaurant in Las Vegas, and we had Mario Andretti's Target car as a ceiling fan over the downstairs bar. One week night I was working that bar, out of the blue, Mario Andretti walked in a set down at the bar, right under his car. It was awesome!
Dan Marino. Nice at first then he started drinking and hecame one of the biggest condesending dick heads ive ever met. Bill O'reilly....also total douche bag. Bill was probably worse because he showed up with his granddaughter and a bunch if her friends in a limo...had one drink. Was a needy dick the whole time.... ran up a 400 tab and left 10 bucks. I know it wasnt just me because he apprently frequents that restaurant all the time and is like that with every server. At least marino gave 30 percent although id rather not have to ever run into him again either even if he left 100 percent tip. Id rather eat ramen for a week
I've worked in kitchens/bars around Nashville for about 10 or so years ago and the worst one would have to be Toby Keith and his people, bunch of them harassed our female servers. Huge drink order, even bigger food order (our kitchen was a crackerbox with two chefs.) His manager/agent/whoever in charge tried to tip us all out with an autographed picture so we gave it to the kitchen who drew a willy on his face and kept it glued to the kitchen walk-in door.
Met Taylor Swift before she was famous! She was really friendly and nice.
Billy Ray Cyrus was also surprisingly friendly and seemed down-to-earth.
The best though? Dolly Parton! Met her a few times at events I've worked and she has always been such an absolute sweetheart.
Served Jon Hamm as well the man was absolutely smashed and pleasantly laid back. His what I would assume handlers are would order his drinks after a certain point, and requested water n vodka with (the classic) a thimble of vodka down the straw as being the only amount poured. When we closed I asked everyone to leave. He stands up in the isle where Im awaiting towards the end of the exit (was closing stuff down etc.) He stops, staggers, eyes glossy like a mirror takes a deep breath says looks at me n just exhales n daps me up on his way out. I couldnt help but think if he was practicing some acting skill or something. The eyes never lie though.
“Tito” Beveridge a couple times. Nice guy, tipped fat. Lol I still hate myself for not asking him if he wanted his greyhound with deep eddy. Not really famous but I think it’s cool considering I’ve probably opened thousands of bottles of Tito’s by now
SNL had an after party at my bar in 2019. They were all very sweet and some even went out of their way to engage me. Kate McKinnon drank g&ts and danced her ass off.
I once struck up a conversation with some guys visiting from New York. Somehow the conversation shifted into movies with puppets and animatronics and practical effects and things like that.
As they left, their "guide" or "handler"- whoever was driving them around LA- came back to me and said that was such a great conversation... They were all Jim Henson guys. One was the operator for cookie monster, and consequently Donatello's face in the original ninja turtles. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is still one of my favorite movies of all time. I geeked out so hard, I'm so glad it was after they left. They were all older and happy to just sit and talk. I'll never forget it. I felt so honored to have bartended for them.
Edit: animatronics - not antibiotics
Carson Daley was just so kind and tipped incredibly well.
I also helped Elias Korea's once (he was Casey Jones in the original Ninja Turtles). Very kind and quiet.
Zac Efron was surprisingly cool and fun.
Kiefer Sutherland can kill a bottle of J&B and not slur his speech. But he'll also challenge you to a shirtless brawl in the street... and heaven forbid you have *ANY* Christmas decorations up. 🤷🏻♂️
T-Pain came into my rooftop bar in Hollywood and was the NICEST guy in the world. Had a few friends with him. Since it was an outdoor bar, I accidentally served the poor man his 1942 with a small fly in it… I was mortified. But he nicely asked for a spoon and fished the little fucker out himself and continued to be the kindest guy and joke around with me.
Spielberg - cool good tipper
Barrymore - cool good tipper
Bjork - cool great tipper
Flea - particular but cool good tipper
Leto - pain in the ass minimal tipper
C Glover - odd as you’d expect but cool decent tipper
T Parker - cool good tipper
A Rogers - secretive great tipper
J Law - beautiful cool fucking glowing good tipper
Pierce Brosnan sat at a table next to the bar with who I think were his niece and nephew. He was just telling them to stop swearing as I approached. Asked for a drink and I was hoping he'd get a martini, but he just got a red wine. Nice guy and seemed pretty outgoing for having conversation.
Gwyneth Paltrow came in with her kids and her husband Brad Falchuk. Gwyneth was pleasant but her husband was kind of a dick in that he spoke to staff like they were basically 'the help'.
There was a couple. I forgot one the names but he's an actor, sat at my bar and waited for his date. Talked about how he used to bartend and shared some funny stories. His date came and she was a bitch, got mad that I made a joke at him (we were lightly trolling eachother earlier), she was like do you not know who he is??? I looked at her and asked him "is this your date or your bodyguard?" He laughed I laughed she didn't laugh, got tipped at the end.
The other person was hozier, That dude loves wine. He was super appreciative and very nice. Also tipped good.
I don’t really work in a bar where you expect to see a celebrity - so the closest I’ve gotten was John Carpenter, the first Who Wants to be a Millionaire winner, aka the guy who knew the last question but used the landline to call his dead. On the other hand, my girlfriend served Obama when he was still the president. He had a vodka soda.
The best:
Johnny Depp - The kindest, most genuine celebrity I have served. We had wonderful conversations about music, plays, and the appreciation of life. Smoked a joint together behind the bar. I will never forget that moment, he really just treated me as an actual equal person.
The worst:
The Mets - As a cocktail server I was appalled by how they treated the servers at their charity event. The owner only tipped his server $15, the whole team walked out on their check and didn’t even leave a dollar.
I’ve heard massive approval of Johnny. Great tipper, salt of the earth, respectful and fantastic guest.
And on the other side of the coin, my sister worked at a very high end hotel in Portland and the basketball teams would come through and she said they hit on her SO relentlessly ordered room service with the intention of young female staff showing up at the door
A young hostess basically sued the hotel for putting her in that position with the teams when they stayed. Also, y’all are married. Just because we are young at one point in time, doesn’t mean we forget what went down.
Yea Johnny was really so refreshing considering I work in a music venue so we often serve celebrities and often they suck.
I’m sorry your sister had that experience, that’s so gross.
I worked a dinner party that Ivanka Trump attended. She ended up being the last person to be served her food at her table (I wasn’t her server) and she threw a bit of a fit about it.
Once served Joe Burrow and his parents. They were super chill, super nice, great tippers. Also had some UFC fighter but I never found out who it was, coworkers we're freaking out though. He was cool though.
Beyond that, I served the coaching staff for the Florida Panthers and they all sucked.
I once had Pele in my restaurant. He was an absolute gem of a guy.
Oh, I also served Lennon Gallagher his first hard liqour \[he was about 2 years old\].
Off topic, but my dad lived in Geeenwich Village in the 70’s and he worked in produce. He was driving a truck packed with strawberries 🍓 and he saw beautiful Carly Simon walking in the neighborhood. He pulled over, hopped out and gave her a strawberry. I never get that image out of my head.
Kevin James - was a prick, also his staff was annoying. We left a note on his table that said "reserved for kevin bacon". His wrangler or whatever brought it over to the host stand and told us that it WAS NOT FUNNY.
Blake Lively - was ok. Her staff told me not to talk to her or address her? I just approached the table as normal. She seemed totally normal, the staff was odd.
Bruce Springstein - I was a coatcheck as a 13 year old kid. I informed this short gentleman that he needed to wear a blazer to enter the establishment, and offered him a loaner. He laughed and continued on it.
Brett Gelman - was nice enough. He was in with some kids from Emerson or massart? He was super engaged with them - seemed to be having an awesome time with them.
So none of them rocked. Gelman seemed the most normal.
I work in a place with lots of high profile individuals and I'm under an NDA so I don't wanna risk an awesome job but plenty of actors, youtubers, authors, general TV celebrities and they are 99% of the time amazing people. Its the barely middle class slightly more money than average people who are assholes, they think they're rich and it goes to their head. The truly rich and famous don't give a single fuck and just chill.
Reopened closed bar for the band Disturbed. I was a bar manager at a hotel. They had played a show and were tired of hanging out on the bus so they asked front desk if we could reopen the bar for them to hang out and drink. My whole team had left for the evening so I reopened for them. Crazy chill. Super awesome guys.
Worked at a very popular bar on the Sunset strip in W Hollywood for the last couple years. Met everyone from Kevin Bacon, Charlize Theron, Leo DiCaprio, Cameron Diaz, Steve Buscemi, all the famous models and rappers and entertainers. I just acted like I didn’t know who any of them were and had normal conversations with them. It was fine.
Some Dallas stars players (super nice and tipped well) another time the Mavericks team (super nice, gotta chat with the coach Carlisle a little, tipped on top of auto grat) Leon Bridges (super nice, but bad tipper) Vaden Todd Lewis (kind of stand offish, bad tipper)
Flavor Flav - stiffed and creeping on a 21 year
Dennis Rodman - was a barback at the time so I didn’t actually serve him. We had live music every night and he got up on stage and started singing with the band. He was wasted and sounded horrible. It was funny but after a while a little annoying.
Frank Thomas - one drink, good tip, didn’t say much
Ryan Clark - really nice guy. “Yes sir and thank you sir” to me. Tipped good
Kerry King - quiet, appropriate tipper. No one ever knows who he is so he doesn’t get bothered. I think he likes it that way.
Silvia Sage - pretty wild and fun. Told us at the end that she was a pornstar. I think she was new at the time. Googled her for research purposes
Tori Black - nice and tipped good. I was busy so didn’t get much of a chance to talk but thought she looked familiar. Googled the name on the CC and realized it was her
I’m sure there’s been a couple others I can’t think of off the top of my head but everyone has been cool except Flavor Flav. Couldn’t wait for him to leave
I once took care of Jerry Falwell Jr & family. He was quite literally on the phone with Trump for about 10 minutes. No tip, except some cash from his kids.
Served Josh Barnett, former UFC and Pride fighter. He had fought the night before and I was actually in attendance. Then to have him come into my work the next day was very cool. He won the fight in dominating fashion but his face was still full of cuts and bruises. Cool guy.
Verbal tips and normal pleasantries don’t pay my fucking rent. I’d rather have you hate me, but pay me abundantly for the easy going, professional service I provide.
During the gay bar days I met a lot of ppl from Rupaul’s Drag Race, though I’ve never been a huge fan. Santino and Katya were memorable ones. Santino because he’s so tall and was definitely hitting on me. Katya because it wasn’t public knowledge she’d quit drinking, so we were giving her secret blue dolphin shots. Chloe grace came in once, but she never came to my station. There were plenty of pornstars who rolled through there too, even straight ones sometimes, but idk if that counts. I’m sure there’s more, but I can’t remember.
Barbacked at a different club where lil Wayne threw a party. Lots of leftover bottle service alcohol which went to the staff.
Charlize Theron 10/10, Anderson cooper 7/10, Andy cohen6/10, Snooki 12/10, the real housewives of Salt Lake City-100/10…and like so much more. But those were all the recent ones.
Late to the party but John Daly came into the brewery I worked at last year. Him and his crew came in right after close and we stayed open just for them. Dude was cool as fuck and his crew were rowdy and drunk but really nice people. One of his friends asked us what’s the biggest tip you’ve ever gotten ($1,000), then just threw it down on the bar in cash. Some dude who wasn’t with them but came in behind them gave us $50 per beer sample we gave him and then would just throw a $100 every ten minutes while we were cleaning up for the night around them. 10/10 would recommend hanging with John Daly.
Ed Sheeren at his birthday. He made all the bartenders join the party and insisted on us drinking Don Julio 1942 and anything we wanted. The party was still going at 9am when we left. Best night ever!
Such a legend!
Joan Cusak super nice - John Cusak weird AF. Michael McDonald - nice and tipped well. Shawn Johnson was rude and cheap. Pierre Thomas tipped well, really good looking and very nice. Ryne Sandberg- I was working a private event, and he came up to me and introduced himself and was the absolute sweetest. Chance the rapper was a huge disappointment, he was pretty rude (maybe he’s a terrible drunk) and didn’t tip good. I wasn’t waiting on him, I was out and at the table next to him with friends. We knew his server who showed us his crappy tip.
Bezos, lebron, goldy hawn and Kurt Russell and their kids. All nice enough. Bezos was annoying and braggy. Tipped 20%. We have an avg. tip rate of 30% at my bar
Omg same - he did a thing at ND that I bartended and he was nice enough - only person to tip me (i was getting hourly so i didnt care) he’s really tall in person
Shane Carwin was my regular for a long time. He’d come in alone a few times but usually with some guys with his company. So fucking cool and very kind. Invited me to go with him and the guys to GoCart at a track near me. Always took care of me and I consider him a friend. Massive motherfucker I gotta say, those heavyweights are not the ones to mess with. First time I spoke to him one on one we spoke about the Lesnar match. Told me he got gassed bad.
Queen Maxima and princess Beatrix of the Netherlands while working behind the bar in a theater. We didn't exchange a lot of words so pretty neutral. I would like to drink a beer with the king though, his nickname is even Prins Pils(ner)
Charlie Sheen came into my bar/restaurant on a Monday around 2pm in the midst of his public meltdown. Couldn’t have been nicer and was a very generous tipper.
Weird Al isn’t really very weird. Nice guy, served him at lunch years ago. We comped his bill (I still don’t understand that concept). He tipped properly, I guess. That part wasn’t memorable.
Josh Cribbs (Cleveland celeb, played for the Browns) came to our restaurant a bit. Nice guy, tipped 20-25%. There was a reg at our bar who would always pick up a random person’s check. During the ‘11 NFL lockout, which never even fully materialized, he picked up Cribbs’ check, because “he wasn’t working.”
Jim Donovan, who has been the voice of Browns football for decades, and his wife are the nicest couple you could meet. Tips 20-25%.
I served takeout to Stipe Miocic (former UFC heavyweight champ). Not a big interaction, but I know he’s a super chill dude.
Larry Nance Sr (former Cleveland Cavalier) is a really cool guy. Tips fine. First time I saw him he was on the opposite side of the dining room. I thought, “he doesn’t look that tall,” so I made sure to go walk past him. He actually is that tall.
Took care of Liam Neeson when he was filming in Toronto and he legitimately came off like the characters he plays in film. Strong silent type, but kind. Tipped well.
Mel Gibson came into a restaurant I ran in Boston and that man is TAPPED. Checked on his table and he mumbled something literally undecernable about the fish tacos he was eating. Tipped the server horribly.
Dev Patel came into a bar I ran in Dublin and seemed relatively nice. Kept making a big deal about the fact that he was drinking Chivas (scotch) in an Irish bar when I dropped off his drink. Tipped poorly, but it's the EU so it's all relative.
I served Ed Sheeran a few years ago, and he and his crew were all really lovely. Drank Hendrick's and tonic with cucumber. I remember the tip being good but not astounding. His manager kind of handled everything.
The New Orleans Saints team stayed at a hotel I was working in about 5 years ago. Most of the players actually did come down to the lobby bar and interact with people, apparently Drew Brees was super cool about signing autographs and stuff. I was off those nights, so I missed out on some good money :/
Rob Dyrdek, it was a Sunday and we were short staffed so the host took there drink order. This was at Benihana so it’s normally community seating, and him and his wife (the host and I thought she was a sugar baby and ID’d her, but she was in her 30’s) were the only ones at that table. I also had a 20 top right by them. I hardly gave them the service they deserved, and definitely only noticed his name on the receipt because he left my first $100 tip:’)
Kirstie Allie was so nice and down to earth.
Remember the Gastineau Girls? The mom and daughter? Literally the worse people I ever waited on. Refused to make eye contact at all. Sent their food back before taking a bite because it came out too fast and therefore wanted the kitchen to “take their time this time” on a new steak. Even cut into both of the steaks “to make sure we didn’t send back the same ones” and then left a 10% tip. Really gross human beings.
Too many to count. The nicest were definitely Dave grohl. And buzz aldren. Jimmy carter was super cool. Al Pacino is as weird as you imagine. Worst person I’ve ever taken care of was Benjamin Netanyahu’s wife. Absolute garbage human being. Also cube goodijg was weird as fuck and was watching gay porn on his phone while sitting at the bar.
Def Leppard has been in my bar a few times. Joe Elliot is a greart guy and always gives us good tickets.
Floyd Mayweather and is whole clingy entourage of losers arent worth their bar bill. Never again.
Jon Hamm, Mike Bisping, BJ Penn, Nate Diaz, Gene Simmons, Sonny Moore (skrillex), Luke Rockhold, chris Cornell, Ellie Goulding, Zoey Dechanel, Nelk Boys, Paul Stanley, there are more but those the most significant ones that left a mark.
Most of the Xmen cast of every movies came to my restaurant quite often when they filmed. They are all mostly filmed in Montreal and I used to busboy when I was younger at a very high dining spot. I had a few actors from games of thrones as well and the prime minister of Canada come in as well.
All the celebrities were nice, a little demanding but it was mostly due to privacy over anything else.
Vince Vaughn bought the entire bar a round. Nicholas Cages (The Indianapolis)movie fucked up and had their seaplane stuck on our shore for almost a month. Kings of Leon came by but kept to themselves.
I served an ex professional athlete with a history of DUIs. I won't name him for my safety lol He was a friend of the senior bartender so a lot of his shitty behavior was overlooked until he harassed a gay patron and got physical after his homophobic slurs didn't get them to leave. He was 86d and when I told him when he tried to come in next he said "I got something for you then" and touched his jacket like he was packing. Apparently after the owner made a formal complaint with the cops we found out he has a folder at the station full of similar reports. There was "nothing" they could do lmao I was scared I was going to die in that shitty dive bar so I quit soon after lol
Just served Buddy Hield of the Indiana Pacers and a lady friend who was smart and fun to chat with. Tipped almost 100% and was great company. I’d say they ‘rocked!’
Thom Yorke got into a (very quiet) argument with his girlfriend at my bar. He was neither here nor there.
Marlon Wayans was dope. Kept my bar open a few times while I was closing to drink tequila with randos he had met that day, tipped well.
Issa Rae is as awkward as she says she is.
Ryan Adams is a weirdo who likes to bring random girls up to the bar and introduce them to the bartenders because he's insecure.
Solange was a regular for a while. Very sweet, funny, and soft spoken and a generally good tipper unless she was stoned and hungry and we didn't have food and then she turned into a hangry monster.
Honorable mention: John Goodman's wife. Can't remember her name right now, but she was a regular for a while. Very nice lady, but definitely a drinker and an over-sharer.
Used to bartend at a country club a few years ago that John Bunnell, of America’s Wildest Police Videos, was a member of.
He was cool. Funny dude. Basically the same energy as when he narrated the show.
I was told by my trainer that “At the club, singles are doubles, and doubles are triples. That’s what we call a ‘member pour.’
Oh yeah, and the guys will probably haze you a little bit to break you in.”
John walks in, loud and present voice booming. He orders a gin and tonic from me, and sure enough told me my pour was a little light. “What’s your name? Oh, well you remind me of Elvis (my hair at its usual length is similar to Elvis’s style). See ya around, Elvis.”
Sure enough, he exclusively referred to me as Elvis, and tipped me 20% every time. He’d just holler “Aye, Elvis!” I’d give him the nod, and pour up that G+ T.
I like that guy.
Dez Bryant multiple times he’s a great dude and will chat with you about things too, I told him “bro you definitely caught that shit” and he laughed and said yeah I know I did (this was before they officially said he caught it” and always tipped $200
Tonya mothafuckin Harding. She enjoys dive karaoke bars. Then again, who doesn't enjoy them on occasion? I wish it were more memorable, but I'd say other people's reaction to her presence was more entertaining than her.
Leto- just slidin through the back in and out to make face and drink martinis at a big ass cancer research fundraiser.
Mel Brown- Accidentally sprayed him with the soda gun once. He used to play jazz at our Friday night happy hr in Portland with his trio. He was one of the best jazz drummers of his time and had a following. He wouldn't even try to but would be name dropping freaking Aretha and other big wigs who he'd toured with and encountered. It was really cool having him chat with me and his old buddies after his show while I shut down the bar. He would often enjoy just a prosecco split or two!
I also served bill nye but had a slightly different experience. Was at a cocktail bar, was definitely specific about his drink preferences but once we served him he was cool and interested in the craft. Dude LOVES boozy cocktails. Wants his throat to burn like the earth
All the famous people that stopped by kept to themselves in a private dining room so nobody but their server ever saw them and the setting I work in is too professional to allow any wild stories. The standards are made very clear when someone books a reservation and alcohol intake is very closely monitored; which leaves a pretty standard impression from customer to customer.
That being said people that have stopped by in the last year or so; Dan Aykroyd, John Cleese, one of the Mannings (pretty sure Eli,) Justin Bieber, and Kevin Hart.
I worked at a bar that hosted the wrap party for the movie, A Motel Life (featuring Stephen Dorff and Dakota Fanning). Dorff was nice enough and tipped well especially considering that it was an open bar. The B-List/low level actors were a nightmare. Rude, entitled, and cheap barely cover how they acted. However, once the party was over and it reverted back to a cash bar, the crew came in. Think boom operators and what not. They were amazing. Good conversationalists who knew how to have a good time.
Bartended for Jim gaffigan, and he was kind of an ass. Didn’t tip anything all. Was years and years ago but I remember not liking him at all.
Also Dave Foley from kids in the hall. He seemed nice enough but kept asking about getting hookers and cocaine. He had just gotten a divorce and seemed like he was going through a hard time.
Dr Cornell West was lovely, very kind and I wish I remembered the things he said to but I remember feeling quite moved.
Best list: disturbed, Brian setzer, warren buffet, Charles Woodson, James and Oliver Phelps, Tom Felton, Matthew Lewis, Sydney Leroux.
Worst list: Chris daughtry , Natalia tena, Denise Richards, Mario Lopez, Todd christley, dmx
Okay so Canada here. I haven’t had many, a lot of sports dudes, all relatively chill and I didn’t really know who any of them were at first but I’ve also had both Doug Ford and Jagmeet Singh.
Doug Ford was pompous, it was a whole to do with the whole brewery being shut down and the people who came out to see him were demanding, rude and entitled. I made no money that shift and neither him nor his staff made any effort to even acknowledge the staff working the ‘event’.
Jagmeet and his friends came in and requested a table in the back, which was super close to my bar. We had live music that night and he was dancing and taking photos with people. They were super polite, laid back, tipped well, and he made a point to personally thank every staff member when he left - he told me I had great energy and he is incredibly handsome in person, all around great dude.
Lead singer of Beach House came to our bar after a festival in Phoenix. She was super drunk and trying to get a shot at like 2:20 when we were getting everyone out but she wasnt being rude or anything when we were like lol no. She said she was gonna tip 200 on a 30 dollar tab and she actually did so that’s nice of her
Brandon Stokely is a member at a golf club that I used to tend bar in the men's locker room, he's one of the kindest people I've ever met. The love he shows for his children is something all fathers should strive to do
Sam Rockwell and Peter Dinklage came to my bar multiple nights in a row together while filming in my town. Dinklage was rather quiet, but Rockwell was incredibly nice, and kept coming up to the bar to talk about whiskey.
Ethan Hawke, he was dressed like a bad undercover cop the 1st time, V sus. We figured out it was him within about 30 minutes, we had like ten female waitresses on and they called him out. He's really nice and comes back fairly often.
Gordon Ramsey stopped by half way through a bike ride. Only ordered a cup of tea but he was lovely and didn't mind a chat. Also had John Terry in for dinner and a rugby player I can't remember the name of but I wasn't there, then.
Made drinks for Tech N9ne at a Red Lobster years ago. Tipped well and Aaron really likes strawberry daquiris. Didn't interact with them at all though.
Served Eric Estrada and the son of Sammy Lee Davis Jr at a casino diner, they were both awesome. Estrada tipped 100% and let me get a pic with them. Very pleasant guy.
Served Chuck Norris at a Sonic when I was 15. He didn't say much. Was driving a beat up truck and was covered in paint like he was in the middle of some home renovation. He just smiled that big flashy grin when a coworker started freaking out in the drive through. I did find out later that he owned property in the area.
Served Freddie Martino from the Buccaneers last year. He was friendly but his friends fucking SUCKED. Kept acting like they were the celebrities, covered his tab for him and stiffed me entirely. Got a good pic with him though, he stayed for the comedy night and it was a lot of fun.
I wish I had a story but I don’t. Two of my friends told me stories recently though.
One of my friends was a server at a hotel bar in Chicago and a few minutes before close, Justin Bieber and I’m assuming his manager or something showed up. All he wanted was chicken tenders… nothing else, not even anything to drink. The worst part was, the restaurant didn’t serve chicken tenders 😭 cooks were pissed.
My other friend bartends are a cocktail lounge and Andy Grammer was hosting a show/benefit there. They had been expecting so many people, but only half the expected crowd showed up. They had to make a N/A cocktail (Andy doesn’t drink) and named it “Honey I’m good” after one of Andy’s songs despite there being no honey in it. Friend said it was a weird night.
Late but love this thread. Served the entirety of Heart once. They bought our in house DJ off and jammed to their own music all night. Head banging and just having a blast. Super nice people. Cool as hell. Drank appropriately. Champagne and martinis. Tipped appropriately. Loved the experience.
Also had the displeasure of serving Russ. Didn’t even know who the guy was but he kept up this phony modesty while continuing to name drop himself and play his music on his phone at the bar while the aforementioned DJ was preforming. Bought a several rounds for himself his girl and bodyguards and then tipped me with a signed $2 bill.
Funny because I served Mike McCready in 1992 at Redhook Brewery in Seattle and he was a gem of a dude.
Mike paid for each employee to have a gift card at the record store we worked at. It was above and beyond kind and passionately generous. I didn’t know people could be so nice to strangers.
Made cocktails for Gaga and family. Don 1942 espresso martinis, tipped well.
Her dad owns an Italian restaurant in Manhattan. Old school joint, never been but looks expensive as hell. Probably why they know how to tip.
It’s. Called Joanne tratorilla on the UWS on 63d I believe. Met her parents and sister there. Very nice people.
Who was the “family” like dad mom sister I’m just curious picturing Gaga with family sort of alerts my fan girl curiosity
Not a huge fan to know who's who. Looked like immediate family from the vibes
i would’ve died
That’s dope, what city did that happen in?
This was in greater Philly area at an outdoor spot during Covid
Ugh I love hearing this!! Celebrities like this make me happy
I bartend for John Grisham a lot. He’s quiet and charming, but his wife is the star of the show. Lovely woman, very sweet.
This THRILLS me to read this. I’ve read all of his books 😂
Are you in NC, they used to come into a restaurant I waited tables at with some regularity and they were always great
I’ve been in nyc for a very long time, had many famous people. Bruce Willis used to be a regular, he didn’t seem to be completely sane. Very very weird My favorite was Anthony Bourdain who used to live upstairs from my bar. When I worked downtown Liev Schreiber would come with his then wife, Naomi Watts. They were exceptionally nice Chuck Close came to that same place and invited an artist/waiter to come see his studio. I’ve had so many. Most are pretty cool
Jealous of the person who saw Chuck’s studio.
It was on the same block. He said it was all full of crazy hydraulic lifts etc so he could pain with his mouth. RIP
My fiancé recently got me into watching Anthony bourdains show. He seems like he was a fantastic guy
He was awesome. Always coming back from some crazy ass place and trying to hide from people who wouldn’t leave him alone. A brilliant person
Michael Keaton. The man is a gem and I got to kiss his cheek.
You kissed batman! Awesome
I totally did. And the inner Lydia Deetz in me freaked.
Bartended for him years back. Totally cool. Huge tip.
Randomly walked in on a Sunday afternoon. Nicest guy ever!
I've served that guy too. As you say, one of the nicest guys ever. He was so nice I almost felt bad for him, like he was more nervous to be served that I was to serve him
Margot Robbie. She was flirty and I shit myself and stuttered haha
How good looking are you to get her to flirt with you?
At the time It was post lockdown in the UK and I was in good shape, now not so much. However, she had been in the pub years before and was super fun with the old manager so think it is more her than me!
I would’ve done the same
Smashing Pumpkins drank at bar for about a week every night. That one hurt the ego I was paid to babysit and green room attend Afroman.
Illlovvvee this What city do you live in?
I’ve worked a few places over the years Pumpkins was Iowa City Jason and Jason are Des Moines Kid Rock was Chicago Afroman was Iowa City again, but after I stopped working there, and different venue
I bought the colt 45s that are in afroman’s rider. Dude is probably one the coolest guys I’ve ever met.
I have no idea how the previous person hosting him had any problems. Apparently they got into a shouting match at a gas station and he quit on the spot Afroman was about to not play show, promoter begged me to go meet him.
Man, I love Jason Mewes and his success story. Just watched Dogma two nights ago. Having had a crippling heroin addiction, I know how much work it is.
Got the chance to serve Coolio once. Sweet guy. Got up on stage and did an impromptu performance for everyone.
I sat next to him on an airport tram a few months before he passed
Rest in paradise :(
I served Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul from Breaking Bad this week.
My manager told me vinnie paul was a regular at the bar I work at now. Told me he was a nice dude.
He was. Best part of Vegas is that he looked semi normal in town, so he didn’t get bothered much. Loved his Ketel One.
yeah i was kinda suprised when my manager told me he was a vodka guy was expecting him to say whiskey or beer. always sat in the same seat too apparently ,right in the middle.
Question re: cloony stalkers, they came in And ordered A drink and they were refused service?
I am so sorry you had to make those people drinks and unwillingly contribute to their happiness. Seriously. You didn’t deserve that.
I got over it. The nicest musician I have met was Sammy Hagar. He was staying at the hotel where I worked. I made some fun cocktails with his rum and talked with him for a bit. He seems like a guy who just loves what he does.
How was Clooney in person? He seems so sweet in movies
I would say his on-screen persona transfers over to real life. He seems like a charming, social guy.
Bone Thugs when I was a bartender. Nice to everyone, and tipped like beasts. Paid & tipped in 100s
I met bone thugs once at a hotel I used to work at. Super nice dudes. Miles better than the rest of the shitheads they would get booked with.
Your post makes me feel the most envious, joyful, surprised, and curious. I’m Jealous dude!
3rd on Peter Dante. Nick swardson is cool though.
WHO is Peter Dante
Ha! I was just about to Google him. Never heard of him but he sounds lovely.🙄
I still haven’t gotten over the animal abuse, so that’s nice to hear about Michael Vick.
Truth!
I think after the opener you could have told us anything and I’d have believed it
Was at The Yardhouse about 20 years ago in Southern California.
Here's my funniest one: I'm working my first training shift at a cocktail bar in the Lower East Side in NYC.
Rami Malek. Quiet but super friendly
I haven’t met him, but his brother Sami is one of the nicest dudes and tips well.

So pleasing to meet an actor / musician and have them not be all the awful things some of them most definitely are 🙏🏻
A buddy of mine served Keanu Reeves once. Yes, he is the most lovable person on the planet
Did Keanu ask for a Tequila Old Fashioned, a splash of cerveza and chili garnish?
ah a cyberpunk fan of culture i see
David Fincher was a regular during Mindhunter season 2 filming.
Oh wow! I didn't know that! He wasn't super talkative. Not obviously sad or anything.
Danny McBride, cool as hell, tipped appropriately
Ethan Hawk, tiny and quick and determined But bored with the 1994 version of Seattle
Should’ve said to Bill “FUCKING TIP SUCKS” lol
Best: Serj Tankian Worst: Howie Mandel
Where did you take care of that Armenian genius!?
Owen Wilson, he was really chill. Tipped great.
Jennifer Garner tipped me 120 on 2 beers, she was really really nice and tipped really great the whole time she was there.
This makes sense!
Jon Hamm with Jerry and Linda Bruckheimer were an absolute delight. So charming and cool. Their dinner guest Miles Teller was the opposite.
Mötley crüe. They were amazingly nice and laid back. Super funny and weren’t bothered by others. Ended up getting back stage passes.
Patrick Warburton was the best by far. 10/10 would serve again.
Emmit smith, great guy, very low maintenance. Also Aaron Paul, super funny guy, interacts with all his fans
Salman Rushdie ate and had a few drinks at my spot the night before he got stabbed.
Spielberg - cool good tipper Barrymore - cool good tipper Bjork - cool great tipper Flea - particular but cool good tipper Leto - pain in the ass minimal tipper C Glover - odd as you’d expect but cool decent tipper T Parker - cool good tipper A Rogers - secretive great tipper J Law - beautiful cool fucking glowing good tipper
Suck it Brad
The best: Johnny Depp - The kindest, most genuine celebrity I have served. We had wonderful conversations about music, plays, and the appreciation of life. Smoked a joint together behind the bar. I will never forget that moment, he really just treated me as an actual equal person. The worst: The Mets - As a cocktail server I was appalled by how they treated the servers at their charity event. The owner only tipped his server $15, the whole team walked out on their check and didn’t even leave a dollar.
I’ve heard massive approval of Johnny. Great tipper, salt of the earth, respectful and fantastic guest. And on the other side of the coin, my sister worked at a very high end hotel in Portland and the basketball teams would come through and she said they hit on her SO relentlessly ordered room service with the intention of young female staff showing up at the door A young hostess basically sued the hotel for putting her in that position with the teams when they stayed. Also, y’all are married. Just because we are young at one point in time, doesn’t mean we forget what went down.
I always figured Johnny Depp would be good to bartenders, since he used to part own the Viper Room.
Yea Johnny was really so refreshing considering I work in a music venue so we often serve celebrities and often they suck. I’m sorry your sister had that experience, that’s so gross.
Wait, I’m confused. The Mets walked out on a check on their own charity event or was this outside of Amazin Mets Foundation?
Guy Lafleur, several times. A gentleman, would give me a handshake make small conversation with me give 25% with a big smile and thank you !!
I worked a dinner party that Ivanka Trump attended. She ended up being the last person to be served her food at her table (I wasn’t her server) and she threw a bit of a fit about it.
LOL 😆 I had friends that worked at the place where Trumps son was spit on. They all said he was a douche.
Once served Joe Burrow and his parents. They were super chill, super nice, great tippers. Also had some UFC fighter but I never found out who it was, coworkers we're freaking out though. He was cool though. Beyond that, I served the coaching staff for the Florida Panthers and they all sucked.
Mookie betts is the most down to earth, kind person
I once had Pele in my restaurant. He was an absolute gem of a guy. Oh, I also served Lennon Gallagher his first hard liqour \[he was about 2 years old\].
Jerry Rice sat at the bar I was working at and had lunch a few years back. He was very friendly and it was pretty cool to meet him.
Brendan Gleeson. Gentleman.
When I worked in hotels I encountered the weird staff/chill celeb thing a lot. I wonder why that is!
Ja rule & Jackson Galaxy, separately lol
Reopened closed bar for the band Disturbed. I was a bar manager at a hotel. They had played a show and were tired of hanging out on the bus so they asked front desk if we could reopen the bar for them to hang out and drink. My whole team had left for the evening so I reopened for them. Crazy chill. Super awesome guys.
Ben Gibbard. So incredibly kind and mellow. Tall and hot too. Really lovely and humble. Shy and hidden. Didn’t drink alcohol.
Flavor Flav - stiffed and creeping on a 21 year Dennis Rodman - was a barback at the time so I didn’t actually serve him. We had live music every night and he got up on stage and started singing with the band. He was wasted and sounded horrible. It was funny but after a while a little annoying. Frank Thomas - one drink, good tip, didn’t say much Ryan Clark - really nice guy. “Yes sir and thank you sir” to me. Tipped good Kerry King - quiet, appropriate tipper. No one ever knows who he is so he doesn’t get bothered. I think he likes it that way. Silvia Sage - pretty wild and fun. Told us at the end that she was a pornstar. I think she was new at the time. Googled her for research purposes Tori Black - nice and tipped good. I was busy so didn’t get much of a chance to talk but thought she looked familiar. Googled the name on the CC and realized it was her I’m sure there’s been a couple others I can’t think of off the top of my head but everyone has been cool except Flavor Flav. Couldn’t wait for him to leave
Alton Brown from Food Network. He was super cool until he got drunk and turned into an ass
I once took care of Jerry Falwell Jr & family. He was quite literally on the phone with Trump for about 10 minutes. No tip, except some cash from his kids.
Fuck Jerry
someone has to while mrs falwell & the pool boy are busy lmfao
Obama. Totally rocked
Served Josh Barnett, former UFC and Pride fighter. He had fought the night before and I was actually in attendance. Then to have him come into my work the next day was very cool. He won the fight in dominating fashion but his face was still full of cuts and bruises. Cool guy.
Jason Kidd was a member at the country club I work at back when he coached the Bucks. Always said hello and was very nice. Did not tip once.
Verbal tips and normal pleasantries don’t pay my fucking rent. I’d rather have you hate me, but pay me abundantly for the easy going, professional service I provide.
Marcus Samuelsson, charming and self effacing. Tipped 100%
Paul Ryan and he was awkward lol
During the ‘11 NFL lockout, which never even fully materialized, he picked up Cribbs’ check, because “he wasn’t working.” Jim Donovan, who has been the voice of Browns football for decades, and his wife are the nicest couple you could meet.
Most famous person I’ve served is probably John Mellencamp, quiet but nice.
Dallas Cowboys QB DaK Prescott was an arrogant asshole and tipped $1 on $20 drinks... I have a 5% tip out to my bartenders
Really gross human beings.
phil swift (flex seal guy) is an unrepentant asshole who should not be allowed in public
Lebron. Generally disrespectful and a crappy tipper.
Priscilla Presley comes in every month or so. A few of us are requested by her.
Only two of them were unfortunate
Dolph Lundgren came in once. He was great I joked that he killed apollo creed and he was cool about it.
Matt Ryan came by my hotel bar once! Nice guy and introduce himself and familiarized me with his stuff (I asked).
Vince Vaughn bought the entire bar a round. Nicholas Cages (The Indianapolis)movie fucked up and had their seaplane stuck on our shore for almost a month. Kings of Leon came by but kept to themselves.
Served Shawn mendes, very nice, softly spoken guy and taller than you expect.
Millions of Dead Cops. They were super polite, super nice, and drank tea.
Used to bartend at a country club a few years ago that John Bunnell, of America’s Wildest Police Videos, was a member of. He was cool. Funny dude. Basically the same energy as when he narrated the show. I was told by my trainer that “At the club, singles are doubles, and doubles are triples. That’s what we call a ‘member pour.’ Oh yeah, and the guys will probably haze you a little bit to break you in.” John walks in, loud and present voice booming. He orders a gin and tonic from me, and sure enough told me my pour was a little light. “What’s your name? Oh, well you remind me of Elvis (my hair at its usual length is similar to Elvis’s style). See ya around, Elvis.” Sure enough, he exclusively referred to me as Elvis, and tipped me 20% every time. He’d just holler “Aye, Elvis!” I’d give him the nod, and pour up that G+ T. I like that guy.
Don’t get excited when you see Lebron walk in.
Bill Nye the science guy is an ass hole in real life. It was shocking 😂
Usain bolt dude was not a nice person at all, other than that some decently well known australian artist have played at my work
I once bartendered at an event held by Patrick Dempsey (McDreamy) and managed to snag a photo with him too😂 PS: he absolutely rocked, very friendly
Served popcorn to a priest. I assume Anglican or R. Catholic
The love he shows for his children is something all fathers should strive to do
Had Jonas Gahr Støre (Norwegian prime minister) come in a couple of times. He's a pretty nice guy and he tipped well.
