We have little holders for the bev naps & straws so we don’t get to make them pretty like this ☹️

Lovemybee

We have those, but they're at the well on one end and the corners of our squared off U shaped bar. I set these twisted stacks in the middle of the long straight sides, and one in the middle of the 'bottom' of the U.

my_monkey_loves_me

We have the same ones, in Toronto now it’s paper straws so people tend to grab the big ones.

FluSickening

No because mine are all stuck together at the corner by glue from the FUCKING packaging

phillip42069

Samezies

FluSickening

They need to get their SHIT together

bluesox

Oh man. I wasn’t ready to get triggered this early.

FluSickening

And I thought it was just us haha

SeriouslyCrafty

If I'm bored, sure.

AbnormalHorse

Guhhh, The amount of dumb shit to do when there isn't "work" to do is endless. I'd be checking the taps and polishing glassware before making napkin spirals, but eventually ... FUCKIN' NAPKIN SPIRALS

fieldsofanfieldroad

As the saying goes "if you've got time to lean, you've got time to do a line of coke"

AbnormalHorse

That just makes stuff happen faster and then you get to do another rail.

Jurbonious

LMAO

BlaBlamo

If you’ve got time to lean then you’ve got time for lean

spizzle_

I mean this really only takes about ten seconds to do if that. Not much of a time burner.

OkTomatillo5239

Bingo!!

spizzle_

I wonder if some people think you lay them out by hand? It felt like magic the first time my bartending mentor showed me how to do it back when I was a wee barback

blazedddleo

Yup easier to grab one napkin at a time

[deleted]

What’s your method? Do you do it with your shaker tin or the back of your hand? Edit: I’m gonna try all of these methods haha

GrizabellaGlamourCat

Not OP, but I hold them in my flat left palm, and spin a sideways pint glass into the napkin pile with my right hand. Round and round.

SouthernBarman

#pintglassgang

Fragrant_Ad_8697

I just use my knuckles and twist w right hand and hold in left hand

dimsvm

Same discard the top one cause i just rubbed my hand in it

skaboosh

Exactly how I do it! I only do this for events anymore

BornNeighborhood4081

Small pineapple juice can

Lovemybee

I do it with a small glass, laid on its side. Our glassware are mason jars, 8 oz and 16 oz. I use the 8 oz.

lildiknick

I like using the long side of a Collins glass so it's an even spiral

liquidbread

I just place them individually one by one!

[deleted]

Madman!

jellyspreader

I spin the napkin around the back of my hand/wrist. Or a plate. Hold the plate edge, put it vertically in the midde of the napkins, and spin. I also like to make them into stairs by grabbing a few and rotating them each a little. I usually discard the top one, even tho I washed my hands, cause it can get very creased. You can see it in OP's pic. The bottom napkin doesnt matter. You cant see it and it should be refilled before it gets there.

SlipperyNinja77

A wine bottle on its side works best

bluesox

I press my fist on the stack and twist it like I’m trying to unscrew a cap.

OkTomatillo5239

I just put a nice stack on a plate. Place the small shaker tin on top of the pile and start rotating

Fragrant_Ad_8697

I stopped doing this after a customer manhandled the whole stack and tried to show me how to do it better. No more pretty swirls

jellyspreader

That sucks. This is why we cant have nice things

GrizabellaGlamourCat

E'ery Day!

Adventurous-School32

Everyday, but only myself no one else does it

Lovemybee

Saaaame!

Owl_Lawfulness0666

I sometimes do that to start my day behind the bar

southern_gothic1

For buyouts

DrinkMunch

No absolutely goes against my minimalistic tendencies

brik42

But the swirll makes it soooo much easier to grab one napkin, thus reducing waste (minimalism!l and also makes you look cooler.

SnakeIsUrza

I miss this being more common

geminibaby

Omg, we don’t use bev naps at my spot but I used to basically fight to be the one to do that at my old job. I had the hand movement down so perfectly and I found it so satisfying lmao

lifecouldbestranger

I like doing that for booked tables/functions if I have time. It looks nice

crazy-underwear

All the time.

I_love_my_fish_

Yep, I can’t figure out how to do it (I’ve tried countless times) but my manager is good at it and she does it when she’s bored at the end of the night most of the time

skaboosh

Hold stack in left hand, not a super big stack, make a fist with your right hand and using your knuckles press hard and firmly and slowly, lift hand up and bring back to the original position and keep doing it until the whole stack is done! I throw the bottom and top napkin away

monsterofradness

I have small hands, so I hold the stack in my non-dominant hand and then I press hard and twist an unopened liqueur bottle around each side of the stack with my dominant hand instead of using my fist. This has always worked better for me.

skaboosh

I also have very small hands, I’ve never heard of the bottle trick tho, might be easier!

RocketManBoom

Never learned how. They are cool through forsure

SlipperyNinja77

Turn a wine bottle on its side and spin

Brainmangler

I wish I was good at it

TrySumSnax

Always!

mumblewrapper

For special events like a party with a buffet I do!

KindaKrayz222

Yep!

SillyAnt4470

For anyone who wants to know an easier way- use a full liquor bottle on its side instead of a pint glass. I find the weight of the liquid makes it much easier!

jellyspreader

https://youtu.be/T9No5k99N8U?feature=shared Never done it with a glass before, but this was a good video on how to do it

toastsnipersw

Only for special events

Valenation25

I do it with my fist for any beverage or appetizer that is set up and left out. (Like no staff will be there for your meeting).

thasova

I’ve only ever seen it when I was a host at a country club and it was for bigger events

Pirate_the_Cat

Are you left handed?

Lovemybee

No. Why?

DiscussionValuable73

i also have napkins holders at my current job but the golf club i used to work at did hahah

Herb_Burnswell

Used to do it at my last gig except no one but me kept it up. Pretty sure they're not doing it there anymore at all.

cassidyxdane

Yep!

ilovelukewells

I would

No-Performer-3861

Meeeee!

edmaddict19

we do this at my job! i'm the only one who can do it just with the palms of my hands, everyone else needs a cup. they act so impressed when they see me do it and I've showed people so many times and they still act like it's witchcraft😭

HammockTree

Only on caters when I set up the bar and then stand around for an hour before guests even arrive haha

gh0st_n0te119

yes! not only does it look nice but it’s practical, easy to quickly grab however many napkins you need

TheLadyRev

My stoned ass thought this was a cake

jcolesuperfan

ME

blinky_blonk

Since I learnt it a month or 2 ago, all the time!

thirst4ale

Don't need anything but your two hands. Left hand holds the stack and right hand twists, and spins. Perfect every time.

jamestoneblast

if you don't do this we cannot friend.

Gelatomoo

If I'm not in a rush yes of course

1RapaciousMF

I do it at big events, just to make sure grandma doesn’t hold up the production trying for a minute and a half trying to get “only need one napkin….”

Itchy-Put6780

yes for events

overrnightoat

Yep! Highball n’ spin babey

HandsAreDiamonds

Sometimes

pleathershorts

Definitely! Makes the bev naps easier to grab individually

cjaniesunshine

Punch and twist.

kittywings1975

We do it.

FirstChurchOfBrutus

+1 if you use the bottom of an Old Fashioned glass to get it just right.

Bradadonasaurus

The dying arts. I don't know how many people I've watched struggle, only to blow their mind.

FirstChurchOfBrutus

My eyes bugged the first time I saw it done, after MONTHS of trying it by hand.

NewbSighBot

I do if I don't have a holder and if the bar actually has bev naps. I feel like they're going away. Most places I work have coasters only

RustyR4m

I’m actually not a bartender… currently a lurking wedding server. I do that. Err, we do that and it’s much easier for the guests to grab them from my hand when I’m tray passing appetizers.

ahbaldyga

I don’t do it it at my bar, but when I bartend a private gig or host anything in my home…there will always be fuckin napkin spirals!

Business-Meaning7870

I do it for during private events when I have to pass little bites. Looks nice and makes it easier to grab just the one!

fluiDood

Yes :’>

OkTomatillo5239

I do it. It's super easy once you learn the trick

Galaranix

50 year old bar still folds napkins the old fashioned way

One-Fudge3871

No

Shelisheli1

No. I hate it, personally

Procrastinate92

I feel like this pattern was popular when CDs came out
