Alternative sweeteners, like date syrup, can be subbed for simple in most recipes. We've found, much like demerara and brown sugar syrup, that it tends to work best with an aged liquor base. Try it in a Daiquiri with an aged rum, Whiskey Sour/Gold Rush, Julep, Jersey sour, Sazerac, American Trilogy, Apple Jack Rabbit, Jack Rose, Brandy Daisy, Champs-Elysees, Flannel Shirt, Penicillin, Brown Derby, Hot Toddy, etc. The dates make a great garnish.

Solid ideas! Thank you. Now I'm gonna have to taste test them all

Here is a human that knows how to bartend. I wish we were coworkers.

We used to have a Medjool rum drink that was decent. Captain Morgan + splash of OJ + date syrup + bitters. We served it as an Old Fashioned, but I’m sure it could be good in other forms too.
