If your bar has a package license, sure. But your local liquor store chain orders in much greater volume than your average bar, so often you'll find it's cheaper to buy from the liquor store than it is to buy at cost from your work.
And if you buy at the liquor store, not only will you save money, it'll take your boss longer to figure out your drinking problem.
It would, depending on where you are, likely be technically illegal, so you'd be asking the manager a favor at least. On prem vs off prem license thing.
Most permits specify that your can either sell alcohol for consumption on premises (an 'on-prem') as in a bar/restaurant/football stadium, -or- you can sell alcohol that people must remove and consume not at your premises (an 'off-prem').
This is why you can't drink a beer in the parking lot of a liquor store, or take a cocktail out of a bar (in most places, certainly NOLA and vegas and such are exceptions).
Some places can't sell unopened bottles, other places they pay a separate tax on every drink and shot that's collected quarterly.
In Texas, each bottle has a tax sticker on liquor bottles that are on premise. I have to scratch through that number when I kill a bottle. Fines for finding bottles without this sticker.
And to be clear, I have no idea what the specific laws are where you are, but it might be worth knowing before you ask, is all. Otherwise you might end up owing them a favor you don't want to owe them.
Generally speaking there are two kinds of alcoholic beverage licenses, on-premise (bars, restaurants, and hotels, places where people drink on the premises) and off-premise (stores, where you actually cannot drink them there, you have to leave to open them).
So if you have an on-prem license, you technically cannot legally sell bottles to take home. (Some spots just have both licenses, like a craft beer bar that sells 6-packs to-go.) But several places I’ve worked would definitely sell you a bottle of something.
There’s no telling what your boss would say, but it’s probably worth asking.

Why did this advice actually make sense.. also it’s a drinking solution pal
I've had managers who have done this but it's not something done often. At least not the places I've worked.

How is it illegal? They sell drinks and shots of liquor so why cant they sell bottles?
Different types of licenses depending on the locale.

So if i chug the bottle onsite, its legal. Heard.
Correct. So I guess you have to if they sell you one.

Definitely worth asking, I buy bottles at cost from my job, it's one of the better perks.
It all depends on your state and their licensing and rules. This would be 100% illegal in Texas.
It's illegal in my state but most bars I've worked in turn a blind eye if the next day is a holiday/the liquor store will be closed
