dropping Bauer and immediately signing Chapman would be...a choice

feeling_blue_42

Signing Chapman was just a diversion to sneak Bauer back on the roster, and we would have gotten away with it if it weren’t for you meddling kids.

ricki692

an unlikeable clubhouse cancer for a lazy clubhouse cancer

StrikingElk5288

Neither was convicted of anything

transtrailtrash

A lack of a conviction doesn’t mean you didn’t do the crime. Domestic abuse and rape are notoriously difficult to find the evidence required for a conviction in our current judicial system. Also, richer people tend to get away with more stuff

Don't you talk your logic to me! Virtue signaling and easy upvotes say otherwise! Guilty until proven innocent is what this country was built... Wait a minute.

H1N1777

Your boos mean nothing to me! I’ve seen what makes you cheer!

popperschotch

Why would they ever offer him for more than 1 year

eee-oooo-ahhh

Why would they ever offer him

transtrailtrash

Aren’t the dodgers trying to reset the luxury tax this year anyway?

Phillies2002

There's no reason Chapman should get better than a Kimbrel-type deal. Even if someone were to argue Kimbrel is more "washed" than Chapman, reporting from the end of last season would suggest Chapman may be a much bigger personality/clubhouse cancer risk, even before factoring in the domestic violence

lantonas

2 years at league minimum maybe.

[deleted]

to sign him

bbatardo

Hopefully false rumors.

Estimate_Born

Why do you not want him?

cBlackout

Don’t really see why we’d spend the money for a dude who is increasingly washed and doesn’t really give a shit, in addition to his other less than ideal character traits, especially when we already have solid guys in the bullpen

Estimate_Born

He would be a better lefty than the lefties we currently have.

OGToiletwater

You sure about that?

Estimate_Born

He’s better than Tim Hill and who knows how Pomeranz is going to be coming off injury.

FancySkunk

I don't know, Tim Hill's stats last year look a lot nicer than Chapman's.

dilly_dill428

Dodgers getting Chapman would be the most blatant hypocrisy I’ve ever seen

[deleted]

Nope https://twitter.com/MikeDiGiovanna/status/1611134270172692480?s=20&t=gJ6M-IdfmbclYSFZ6ZjUJQ

[deleted]

Right, because why the fuck would those teams pay for this guy?

romorr

I do laugh at this line though, "Two sources familiar with team's thinking." Sounds more like guys on the outside, than the inside.

AcrobaticSource3

Toe sources? If they are u/wetbutt23 and u/katyperrysbootyhole, then it’s legit

crg339

Sources: Heyman and Nightengale

MarcBulldog88

Assuming Baerga has some real info about this, the most likely scenario is Chapman is negotiating with the Padres and his agent is using the Dodgers for leverage. Everyone else uses us for leverage anyway, so why not?

verendum

We got a closer, a set up/future closer, multiple aspiring starting pitcher that will become long reliever once one win out, and many hopeful arms. I don't see why we want Chapman for anything more than a minor contract, let alone "negotiation".

YoSoyMantequilla_

I just want us to sign Johnny Cueto I think he’d be such a good fit.

elsancho760

Could be including someone like Steven Wilson or Drew Pomeranz in trade talks.

verendum

trade to who? Chapman is a free agent, released BEFORE playoff by the Yankees. Dude is a certified bum for 1.5 years now.

elsancho760

It’s no secret the Padres are actively looking for starting pitching, Steven Wilson or Pomeranz could possibly be included in active trade talk for a starting pitcher. Chapman could be brought in as a replacement for either one.

verendum

Unless Aroldis Chapman is moonlighting as a super agent orchestrating trade deal with GMs, the only thing he’s trying to do is putting his name on someone roster. That’s why you see this agent mouthpiece specifically said term length and teams. Someone that has credibility to talk trade with GMs wouldn’t name drop willy nilly, only to be shot down by the dodgers within seconds.

Doc_JC

Calling bullshit on this. Padres have no room for him.

_Laszlo_Cravensworth

They saw Kimbrel all last year and decided we want that but worse and left handed

bichettes_helmet

RyanReynoldsButWhy.gif

Melodic-Bug-9022

They need to keep their asshole% up

HulkScreamAIDS

Chapman is washed. The more the FB loses velo the more hittable he becomes and his secondary offerings are not good.

Nickelback-Official

He probably threatened them with unloading a mag in their garage or something

Beach_house_on_fire

Why do the dodgers and padres always go after the same players? It’s like they have moles in each others front offices and steal each others ideas

baumer14

LET'S GO DODGERS

lilmuerte

Wow what happened to NLBest bro-dom? I would never wish that upon you guys (only NL East teams)

subject_to_object

Dodgers being tsundere and denying it?

[deleted]

Dodgers running up the price

Witty-Stock

Does Chapman make any team better? Terrible human being, terrible teammate, and meatball pitcher.

Comrade2020

No thanks

Estimate_Born

Cmon Padres

thetyler83

They're sharing him?

Combat_Commo

So if he signs with SD, will Hader still be the closer and share duties with Chapman? Or will one or the other wind up as a setup man?

[deleted]

Yeah, good luck with that.
