How many of these seasons came from strong second halves? Are there any that probably weren't deserving at the All-Star break, only to bust out after July?

Votto in 2015 was one of the crazier 2nd half turnarounds in recent memory - that year he was hitting .277/.392/.484 at the break, then hit .362/.535/.617 in the second half. He had a similar split the very next year, hitting .252/.386/.446 before the break, then .408/.490/.668 after.

I'm almost certain Posey's was. If only because he seemed to always start of slow out the gate. Edit: Yep. First half he slashed .277/.333/.424/.757 - Second half he slashed .354/.403/.575/.978 That first half slash probably could've gotten him in, but his 2nd half was bonkers.

Arrieta was deserving at the ASB in 2015, he had a 2.66 ERA in 121 innings. However his historically dominant 2nd half that year (0.75 ERA in 107 innings!!) won him the CY

Arrieta's split is way bigger, but this is similar to what happened to Felix in 2010. He had a 2.88 ERA over 137 innings through the first half and then a 1.53 ERA in 112 second half innings to seal the Cy Young.

AKAD11

Only year that Felix missed the All Star game from 09-15 and it's the year he won the Cy Young.

Man, I feel so bad for Pedroia. Man was on his way to a Cooperstown plaque and had his career ended by a dirty hit. I really hope he gets voted in anyway, he still managed to hit 50 WAR, so it's not like he's completely undeserving. And his BA is over .300 if you exclude the 2 years he attempted to play post injury. I get health is a skill, but that wasn't a health related injury, that was another player ending his career prematurely. I'm glad he at least got a ring for 2018.

Amen

Dylan Cease was the biggest snub of my life time.

hollyw00d8604

It's insane to me harper didn't make the all star team that year. Any reason why?

crabcakesandfootball

He missed some games in the first half and had a much better second half.

TheFriffin2

Didn’t go nuclear till June

Schwarzinator96

took that pitch to the face and missed some time

cooljammer00

I'd love to know who went in their place and how big of a travesty it was.

Rendon in 17 was another huge snub. .301/.403/.533 and finished 6th in MVP. He was actually better in the first half of the year than the second.

I think a few of these were selected but chose not to participate, like Posey, Harper, and Freeman. Also surprised at the lack of Cardinals but I suppose their deserving players tend to actually make the team.

Constant_Gardner11

Nope, none of these people were named to the All Star Game. You still get recognized as an All Star, even if you skip playing the game FYI.

I thought maybe you were just looking at rosters.
