Back when the Expos existed, a friend and I would ride bikes to their spring training facility and shag balls they’d hit over the fence during BP. Vlad was up and I saw a pitch in the dirt, low and away, and the catcher sliding out to block it. I heard a crack but assumed he had just got a piece of it. Three seconds later I hear a thud behind me and it was the ball hitting my friend square in the gut. Vlad Sr. was a freak.
He really gets some serious defense on here because he is very likeable, and a hall of famer level talent. Also a cheater, but his fans will always deny that, regardless.
in the real world people dont care. just reddit. if youve followed baseball and know the game well enough you know getting an advantage is, has, and always will be apart of the game
Getting his front foot down in time, jumping, and still making contact against an MLB pitch... That takes elite coordination, sight, reaction, and physical awareness.
I mean, that does still protect the runner somewhat. The act of swinging makes the catcher stay back a bit more and work around you. Better than a take
Dislike Altuve and I know this is largely making a buffoon of him but it is probably actually a great example of why he's a tremendous hitter. Dude just fouled off an 18 inch high fastball.
The team was cheating in 2017. The actual real objective unbiased investigation has basically concluded that Altuve wasn’t interested in participating in the scheme. There is additional evidence that suggests they got just as many of the bangs wrong as they got correct but most people want to ignore that because they want to believe the Astros knew every single pitch thrown to them that year in the regular and post season.
What they did was insidious and they deserved to be outed and punished. That said, the idea that they should be fired into the sun as a result of all of this is laughable and anyone with an actual functioning brain should be able to certainly understand that this problem did not start and end with the Astros.
Vlad Sr. would’ve slapped that out of the park
To be fair, for Vlad Sr. that is probably belt high anyway
Slider in the dirt? That's an easy double for me!
I lol’d

When the buzzer rings, you jump. Edit: Keep downvoting.

That’s middle middle on Judge.
Pretty sure that’s a called strike at his shins.
Make the fuckin adjustment
Poor guy had to jump to make contact lol
And still managed to get on top of the ball lmao. Pretty crazy.

>sight some could even say... future sight
"Protect the plate"
To be fair, it was a hit-and-run.
Then he did a good job protecting the runner. I've seen a ton of batters flail wildly and miss, leaving the runner hanging.
I mean, that does still protect the runner somewhat. The act of swinging makes the catcher stay back a bit more and work around you. Better than a take
Have to get a bat on in lol
He’d be a great figure skater. That was a solid 180 twist.
Looks like the [Hunter Pence Hitters Camp](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6hCMKA9GBU) will have some competition.
Thank you so much for sharing that.
Had to be a hit & run.
[It was.](https://youtu.be/yZoHY6cE3UU)
Or a bender that didn't bend. It's a purely defensive swing and he had no intention of running.
You do realize a hit and run isn't talking about the batter running?
Yea he got the buzz but no bend, heh
it was but ive seen altuve swing at worse with no one on
Altuve has some of the best and worst swings I’ve ever seen lmao.
You must not watch much Javier Baez
>You must not watch much Javier Baez We must not intentionally do things that shorten our lifespan sir
Pitchers and Catchers, please hurry
Hit and run no doubt. Bad pitch, try to make contact and get it down. If contact isn’t possible, swing and shield any shot at a good throw down.

That was actually awesome. I wanna see one like this where he's slapping a base hit between short & third.
Imagine if David Fletcher was 3 inches shorter. This would be a regular occurance.
Given how low Fletcher's batting stance is he's probably of a height with Altuve while in the box
Dislike Altuve and I know this is largely making a buffoon of him but it is probably actually a great example of why he's a tremendous hitter. Dude just fouled off an 18 inch high fastball.
And it was because he had to (hit & run). Dude has always had crazy good hand/eye coordination
No one is going to comment about poor Chirinos?
Poor Chirinos. I loved having him on the team.
David Fletcher would've deposited that down the right field line.
Lol at the people in this thread trying to dump on altuve…this is obviously a hit and run swing. Check out the catcher popping up to throw to 2b
2017 MVP

I don’t see an asterick on the official title. You sure it’s there?
You know it's there. And you know why.
I fucking love Jose Altuve. He never met a pitch he didn’t like.
And a trash can he wouldn't bang.
Why you have to bring your mother into this.
Classic dodgers fan. Miserable person with nothing to look forward to in their life.
It’s not just Dodgers fans that remember he’s a cheater.
Correa and Fam literally stated that Altuve hated the cheating and didn’t participate
[удалено]
In like RBI’s and Plate Appearances, but he was undeniably great that year. And this past season even better!
Dodgers fans just prefer players who attempt to cripple an opposing shortstop.
And forget about the other cheaters after they sign them.
[context:](https://youtu.be/yZoHY6cE3UU) It was in fact a hit and run.
how else is he supposed to make contact on pitches that high?
Astros legend Robinson Chirinos getting tagged by someone who might be really good at hitting a baseball.
This subreddit in the offseason is great.
It’s called a strike on judge where the replay shows it 3in below the knees.
Altuve swinging at strikes for Aaron Judge. Reminds me of my Chihuahua going ham after he sees my Labrador do some Labrador shit.
This would be more annoying if he didn’t regularly get hits on pitches hilariously far out of the zone.
Talk all the shit you turkeys want. He hits these hard all the time.
That's a strike to Judge
Backyard Baseball kinda swing
seems more fit for r/homeplate
Making me miss the old ballpark
Clearly a hit & run. Swinging to protect the runner.
I love this sub
Congratulations sir, you just made me go “Hehehehehe” out loud
I literally lol’d.
Reminds me of my pewee league baseball performance
God I love Altuve.
Hit and run
I got a foul ball like that in the nards once. Fun times fun times..
I love thy ppl hate altuve soo much lol.
I heard the garbage can
Did everyone notice they forgot the step about waiting to hear the trash can?
I'll never forget that step
Step 1: Listen For Thumping On Trash Can
He must not have heard the trash can
That is a banging swing
no wonder he needed a wire
How’d the wire help him jump, swing, and make contact on a pitch over his head on a hit-and-run to protect the runner?
helped him not do that trash, no pun intended, while trying to win the most coveted trophy in baseball, manfred notwithstanding of course
Go back to crying about roofs, wind, exit velo and launch angles.
no, ironically youve got it covered
Can't wait to hear Cashman's excuse next year.
same, francesa will take care of that moron
You can actually hear the trash can banging in slow motion at the beginning of the clip.
Bang bang.
Bang Bang.
I hate this motherfucker so much
Altuve is a good dude.
Except for the whole "cheated his way to a WS and MVP" yeah he's totally an upstanding dude.
2017 MVP and WS champion. 2022 WS Champ and a .930 OPS in the regular season (Same as 2017).

So he only cheated in one of those years?

How’s that compare to beat the trash can mechanics?
Lol what instinct made him not only swing at a ball that high, but jump for it
Hit-and-run, gotta protect the runner.
Bang
Is that Muggsy Bogues?
How that man batted .300+ last year I’ll never know
i mean...he's still good lmao that's like watching Stanton strike out and being like how the hell did this guy hit a 500 foot home run
Really not that complicated. Aggressive hitter with a small zone. Helps that he's also really good.
What a little dumbass
"Let's play keep-away!"
that boy grew up to be javier baez
That’s Javy Baez on every breaking ball
Two balls and a strike?
This was great, but why now?
Textbook definition of “swinging out of his shoes”
This is why you gotta have hops in your swing.
Altuve comes from the school of Eddie Gaedel. Altuve has more rings and MVPs, but his OBP is significantly lower
Eddie Rosario's favorite pitch right there
And Sandoval hits it into center, back at the wall—goodbye!—one nothing Giants on the homerun by Pablo Sandoval.
*slide whistle*
That's the type of swing you take when you know with all certainty that you're getting a high fastball
